Learn more about this land: Our little slice of heaven is nestled back off the country road- with over 30 acres, we have a couple of old horse pastures and barns, a beautiful grassy area that has a large fire pit and a natural pond. Some wood is provided for your initial fire; more can be purchased from us for $5 per bundle. We have basic electricity, a country swing, a dock if you would like to fish- we also have nice grassy walking paths and a wooded area as well. Our land is very peaceful and safe. The perfect space to unplug and unwind and to recharge yourself. While we do only consider our space one site, it is large enough for groups as big as 30 ppl, with plenty of room to set up tents in your desired areas. Campers and trailers are welcome, with limited size requirements and space; we also restrict where they can be parked. We are very close to several rivers in the area, so bring your kayaks, or inner tubes and float down the rivers for a peaceful afternoon. Half way between Chicago and Detroit is a city named Kalamazoo. Our place is near the intersection of US 131 and I-94, so whichever direction you are traveling is accessible. Whether you are heading to the beauty of "up north" or running between the big cities east and west, this is a great spot to rest and enjoy some down time. Lake Michigan is a 40 minute drive west from here and if you are a bicyclist, you can ride the Kal-Haven Trail from the trail head about 2 miles from here, all the way to the Big Lake and back (35.5 miles one way). We have trails in the woods and open fields to look over, depending on your preference. As of this year, there is no electricity and water hookup, so tents or trailers with electric and water are your option. We have a bell tent available for a single or a couple to stay. On that same site is room for a trailer or tents, if you want to invite your friends, and we've built a cooking shelter and a bath house that has a compost toilet and a shower with on demand hot water from solar energy. We have a horse farm on the property and offer horse experiences (All our activities are done on the ground near or with the horses, so, no riding is offered) at an additional fee. It is expected that you will remain outside the fence from the horses while you are staying, unless you sign a release and are accompanied by the owner to interact with them. We do not allow dogs. There are two campsites cleared in the woods, for tent camping, and more will be cleared in 2025, as time allows. There will be a bathhouse with a compost toilet and on-demand hot water nearby those campsites. If you want to stay before our build, we will offer a lower rate, but expect you to take away your own waste when you leave or clarify with us where whether there is an appropriate place on the property to dispose of it. At some point during the fall of 2025, we are placing a restored vintage 1957 Ideal camper in a separate area of the property. It will have solar power and an indoor compost toilet, with a stove and sink. It will host a single or a couple who can sleep on a full sized mattress. Another sleeping area may be offered from converting the table, but we are not sure how comfortable it will be until we've completed the renovation.

One is at the bottom of the pasture (1) and quite open. It can accommodate larger groups with multiple tents. It can also take a larger RV. A more secluded site (5) is half open and half in light woods., and is located at the top of the pasture. The others are in the middle of the pasture, 2 for sun lovers and 3 for those who prefer more shade. For those who prefer more seclusion, we have cleared three sites in the woods. All sites have a fire ring, or metal fire pit, and picnic table. Some have fire wood boxes (we’re working on making a box for all sites). We have an outdoor propane shower that provides both hot and cold water. This is free. A coffee bar is on the back deck. Coffee is brewing around 7am. We also provide hot water, teas, hot chocolate and cider. Feeling a little peckish before breakfast, or after dinner? Help yourself to a snack. This is all free, though small donations are welcomed. Our goats, poultry, pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs and produce take up about an acre and a half. Then the rest is open space. You are welcome to collect eggs for breakfast and fresh produce from our gardens (additional fee). Use the BBQ or smoker. And even join in on farm chores if you are so inclined. Cabins ARE SMOKE FREE and may not be used as kennels so please keep pets off furnature and don't leave them inside when you are gone. You must bring your own queen sheet set. We are 13 minutes from South Haven and the lake. 30 minutes from the city of Kalamazoo. And just under an hour from Grand Rapids. About half of the 20 acres is wooded, which is where three of our camp sites, Hammock Haven are located. Each site has a fire ring & picnic table. Three camp sites are located in the pasture. One is at the bottom of the pasture (1) and quite open. It can accommodate larger groups with multiple tents. It can also take a larger RV. A more secluded site (5) is half open and half in light woods., and is located at the top of the pasture. The others are in the middle of the pasture, 2 for sun lovers and 3 for those who prefer more shade. For those who prefer more seclusion, we have cleared three sites in the woods. All sites have a fire ring, or metal fire pit, and picnic table. Some have fire wood boxes (we’re working on making a box for all sites). We have an outdoor propane shower that provides both hot and cold water. This is free. A coffee bar is on the back deck. Coffee is brewing around 7am. We also provide hot water, teas, hot chocolate and cider. Feeling a little peckish before breakfast, or after dinner? Help yourself to a snack. This is all free, though small donations are welcomed. Our goats, poultry, pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs and produce take up about an acre and a half. Then the rest is open space. You are welcome to collect eggs for breakfast and fresh produce from our gardens (additional fee). Use the BBQ or smoker. And even join in on farm chores if you are so inclined. Please try to plan to check-in by 9pm. Exceptions can be made. There are locally mandated quiet hours (10-7 Sun through Thur, and 11-7 Fri and Sat). Hanging out by a fire and chatting is fine.

We have about 40 acres and trails through the area for exploring. You just may come across some "forts" constructed by some of our grandchildren. There is a large fire pit and plenty of firewood for a minimal cost. (Large trash can full. ) If you listen in the evening, you are likely able to hear a couple of owls talking back and forth. Usually you can see some deer and maybe some turkeys. There are many old pines around the property, the last remnants of our Christmas tree farm. There is no electricity in the cabin, but we do have two solar lights and some battery lights. If it's been rainy, the solar won't last as long as usual. If it's chilly, we do have a portable heater available. We have cornhole game available upon request and some table games kept in cabin. If you want to go biking, there is a trail in town, about 5 miles away.

Colors were wonderful and kept plenty warm by the fire. Outhouse was in great shape, even at the end of the season. They really take pride in this property and it shows. Titus has created a great little get away! The grounds were well kept and sites are all far enough away from each other that there is a lot of privacy. He was a very helpful and welcoming host. Would definitely recommend staying here. Google maps will try to take you to the wrong house (the one just before) so just make sure you look for the actual address. It’s the driveway lined with trees on both sides.

Already planning a visit next summer when I come to the area. Few things to note: *Bring a flashlight, it’s dark when walking to the restroom. *There are bugs & Spiders everywhere, it’s nature. *Futon in cabin-s isn’t comfortable, I slept in my zero gravity chair.. *Breathe, and have fun..

3 nights at Sugar Shack Disc Golf Campground

This was my second time at this lovely spot. Beth is a wonderful and accommodating host. The site has everything. I car camped in a Subaru. The site includes a full 18 hole disc golf course. If like me you are not into that, it makes for a nice little walking trail in the woods. I would recommend it to anyone especially in the fall. It is beautiful. The only thing I would mention is that in the area are both a motorcycle club and a shooting range. Both can be heard. Just something to help set expectations if you are expecting only nature sounds. It wasn’t off putting for me.

Centrally located to many interesting places. Titus very friendly and showed me where everything was. Showerhouse and outhouse(pump toilet) exceptionally clean and well stocked. Even had towels incase you forgot. Loved waking up in the morning with the sheep in the fields. It rained while I was there and Titus let me move to higher site with no issues. Hope to visit again in the future.

Weekend Trip to McCormick Artisans Woods/River

This overnight worked great for us. The little compound was beautifully planned and built and very accommodating - creative details everywhere, a firepit with cooking grate, a little roof over the bench by the fire, dry firewood. I liked the the little building with the sleeping berths so much I'm thinking about building one myself. The hosts were super nice, interesting people and I enjoyed getting to know them. I hope to be back.

Molly and Kevin were nice host, checked in on us via the hipcamp app and made sure we didn't need anything. They have a beautiful landscape for camping and any other family event. It was nice and spacious plus the star view was awesome at night and they also have a nice trail that leads back to more wide open land and a pond for fishing.
