Every year in the spring there are 4-6 Thoroughbred foals born that eventually will become racehorses. We are a small vegetable, fruit and herb farm that has just been getting started over the past few years after relocating from farming in California. Our property is an old farm that historically was primarily used for pasture. We have several vegetable gardens, a berry patch and two small fruit orchards and a forest that campers are welcome to explore. There are about two acres of pasture, but no animals currently grazing, only the chickens that may or may not be within a fenced in area depending on the day and season. We are currently selling produce from our gardens and eggs from our free roaming chickens along with our kitchen products produced on farm in our licensed farm kitchen. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent near the creek in our forest or hilltop with a view of surrounding farms or in a pasture where you will wake with the morning sun. We have various locations perfect for setting up your space for the night. We do often have two bookings a night on the weekends, it is a first come first pick option for the sites. However, with larger groups we may require to set up in the forest site near the creek or near the farm building might be another option for those who do not want to walk. We are a small diverse vegetable, herb and fruit farm so we welcome campers anywhere as long as they respect the boundries of the gardens and the orchards. All sites may require walking a little from your car, but some cars are able to get a little closer to the sites(depending on the car & the weather). We also have a small flock of egg laying hens that roams the property along with nine friendly barn cats and a friendly(but big) farm dog that you may see around the farm. There are countless species of birds that can be seen around as well as colorful butterflies, moths and dragon flies regularly flying about. Campers have access to a rustic bathroom(no hot water unless you boil it) and a partial kitchen as well as a charcoal grill, community fire pit and a picnic table. If you would like to cook onsite we have minimal amount of cookware available to use and you can buy from the farm whatever seasonal produce and/or eggs you might need. Our farm is down the road from wineries, breweries, a tea room and various other Frederick county attractions. There are numerous historic sites within a short drive such as Harpers Ferry and Civil War battlefields, including Gettysburg and Antietam. We are a 15 minute drive to historic downtown Frederick, 10 minutes from the center of historic New Market while being about an hour from downtown D.C. and 45 minutes to Baltimore. Our central location is great for site seeing around the area during the day, then you can spend the evenings relaxing around the farm. * For small RVs we can accomodate you in some space near the farm buildings. **The hilltop has some flat areas, but there is also a good slope depending on where you set up, so it is really best for campers with only one tent. This is next to a newly planted orchard, so there is also the option of some flat areas around the little fruit trees. Some cars are able to drive up the hill to park on the hiltop, depends on your car, but we are very strict about no driiving in the orchard. ***Plenty of space for larger groups as well in the grove site in our forest, near the creek. If your group has more than 4 adults we may require that you use this space as it is most appropriate for larger groups. Some cars are able to drive up the hill to get a little closer, but be prepared to walk up from the parking space near the barns which takes 3-5 minutes or a two minute walk from the hilltop.

The Byrd's Nest on the River

The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few very small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy. Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 tubes available for your use, and 3 kayaks, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small shed down at camp that contains rope, tarps, shovel, shade tent, tackle box, extra torch fuel etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it. :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. If I do not respond soon after your inquiry, it's because I am without reception. Even if your inquiry expires in 24 hours, I will still get back to you! Thanks in advance for your patience. There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float. Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :) *Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, there is a back way in over the ridge. You will absolutely need 4 wheel drive with clearance and it takes about 30 minutes longer and a sense of adventure- but you'll be rewarded with beautiful views and waterfalls at the switchbacks:) This route in is only an option when the bridge is flooded, as it is a private road that has many gates. I will provide all necessary information before your stay regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable and you decide not to come. Sadly, the floating dock you see in the older pictures did not make it through the river ice last winter. However, the deck is now turned into another tent platform! The tallest structure on our farm is the windmill, constructed in 1874, and it quickly became the logo for our farm because a windmill is something that harnesses power for a specific purpose. For many generations, the windmill harnessed the power of the wind to grind grain or pump water, but now in the 21st century, Willet Family Farm hopes to harness the power of the outdoors to benefit every guest that comes to visit. The Willet Farm survived many hardships including The Great Depression, the 1999 tornado that destroyed the barn, and cancer that claimed the life of family members too early. In 2006, The farm had to be sold outside of the family, but in an effort to honor past generations and preserve the heritage of what the farm stood for (faith, family and hard work), Jeremy and Kathleen Willet purchased the farm back in 2017. The 13 acre farm is perfectly located in the middle of over 200 acres of farmland owned by parents and cousins. Since that time, we have welcomed over 200 guests from 10 different states and 2 different countries! There are countless species of birds that can be seen around as well as colorful butterflies, moths and dragon flies regularly flying about. Campers have access to a rustic bathroom(no hot water unless you boil it) and a partial kitchen as well as a charcoal grill, community fire pit and a picnic table. If you would like to cook onsite we have minimal amount of cookware available to use and you can buy from the farm whatever seasonal produce and/or eggs you might need. Our farm is down the road from wineries, breweries, a tea room and various other Frederick county attractions. There are numerous historic sites within a short drive such as Harpers Ferry and Civil War battlefields, including Gettysburg and Antietam. We are a 15 minute drive to historic downtown Frederick, 10 minutes from the center of historic New Market while being about an hour from downtown D.C. and 45 minutes to Baltimore. Our central location is great for site seeing around the area during the day, then you can spend the evenings relaxing around the farm. * For small RVs we can accomodate you in some space near the farm buildings. **The hilltop has some flat areas, but there is also a good slope depending on where you set up, so it is really best for campers with only one tent. This is next to a newly planted orchard, so there is also the option of some flat areas around the little fruit trees. Some cars are able to drive up the hill to park on the hiltop, depends on your car, but we are very strict about no driiving in the orchard. ***Plenty of space for larger groups as well in the grove site in our forest, near the creek. If your group has more than 4 adults we may require that you use this space as it is most appropriate for larger groups. Some cars are able to drive up the hill to get a little closer, but be prepared to walk up from the parking space near the barns which takes 3-5 minutes or a two minute walk from the hilltop.
