Spacious Skies Balsam Woods is a hidden paradise of a campground located right in the heart of Maine, just a half hour south of Moosehead Lake, the largest lake in Maine, and 60 miles as the crow flies from the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, Mt. Katahdin, in Baxter State Park.
We offer both wooded and open sites that can accommodate most rigs. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, water, 30 or 50-amp electrical service, and most offer sewer. Groups and tent campers are welcome.
Balsam Woods campground is less than a minute’s drive from Piper Pond, a 2-mile-long lake with public boat launch and beach access. Onsite, we have a camp store and snack bar stocked with necessities, treats, and goodies for the whole family. There is no shortage of fun activities with our heated pool, classic rec hall, playground, a new jumping pillow, and gem mining! We have three cozy rustic cabins as well as three deluxe cabins for those wanting to experience the beauty of the great outdoors but who may not be ready for the tenter or RV life!

The dirt road takes you to the site above a small farm pond. There is a picnic table with a red umbrella. The setting is a quiet, open blueberry field trimmed by woods.
There is a tent platform that measures 11 ft x 19.5 ft.

Craig’s land is a gem.
We stayed two nights. We listened to the loons and looked at the amazing night sky while we sat around the campfire. The site is level, super clean, and the gravel area is large ( no mud or weeds).
The lake was quite warm and it’s clean and clear.
If you go to Bath stop by the Maine Maritime Museum. It’s a wonderful representation of a boat yard that’s over 100 years old. The tour guides are great and we took an hour long cruise on the river.

This was our very first camping trip with our three little boys and our dog, and also our first time using Hipcamp. We couldn’t have picked a better spot! We had the whole place to ourselves, which made it even more enjoyable. The boys and our dog were able to run around, explore, and just be free without us having to worry. It was peaceful, relaxing, and the perfect place for our family’s first camping adventure. We had such a great time and will definitely be back! 😊🏕️🐾

Krystal was extremely welcoming and helpful. She gave great suggestions for places to visit in the area. (Don't miss the Owls Head Lighthouse - we even saw an Eagle there!)
We had our small trailer right next to her barn, and her horses Bo & Jack wandered the property. It was fabulous watching the horses just randomly walk by!
Also, a bit further up her hill, she has Adirondack Chairs out where you can have a fire (if the state says it's not too dry) and look out at her rolling hills, pasture, and watch the sunset. She has electrical available and also potable water.
We would definitely camp there again - quiet and serene.

This was the perfect spot to serve as a base camp to explore the Castine area for a couple of days. Our site was reasonably level with a picnic table and firepit and surrounded by apple trees and raspberries. Downtown Castine and Wentworth Beach were within a short bike ride of the site. Some folks might like to know that there's a port-o-potty at the beach. We visited the beach several times including with our van so we could make and eat our dinner while watching the sunset.

This place was great for a weekday family getaway, followed by a peaceful and relaxing weekend for my husband and I. The site was very quiet with the occasional neighbor walking by and the owners' cute dogs coming by to say hi. The lake, with access next to the owners' house, was beautiful and perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding.
