My husband and I bought this property in January of 2020. The main house was just a shell but, we had a vision for it. We were so excited about the history of the home and land. Bill Irwin, his family, and his dog “Orient” owned the property and stayed in the “camp house” located below while building the main house. Bill was legally blind and Orient was his guide dog. Bill and orient hiked the Appalachian trail and received awards as well as a book written called "Blind Courage.” Bill passed away before he could finish the home. We felt it would be nice to fix up the house below and make it a tribute to Bill and Orient being we had been left quite a few artifacts of theirs. Unfortunately after looking into fixing it up, it was suggested to tear it down. Then we made the decision to clean up the land for campers. We hope people can come enjoy the peacefulness that we have so much enjoyed for the past 3 years. We have fiber wifi access throughout the property and a full community kitchen, shower room, and sitting area that is close to all of our cabins and tent sites.

Graham Lake is just a stone's throw away. Great for kayaking, fishing, and swimming. This magical place is just beyond our farm where we you can buy fresh chicken and duck eggs daily at the house. In the cabin, upstairs, a lofted queen bed accessed by a sturdy wooden ladder. Downstairs, a wood stove with dining area, and living space with full sized convertible bed. No electricity, no plumbing, no wifi. Good cell service. Composting toilet and water tank for use inside cabin. Gas grill and firepit with tripod grate outside for cooking options. If you would like a wheel barrow full of firewood provided there is some available on site for a small donation. • There is a hammock with a shade cover at the cabin for you to use. • There is a bug net provided in the cabin if you're in need of some extra protection indoors. • Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a short drive with a few hiking trails. • Baxter State Park & Acadia National Park are each an hour and a half away (just in opposite directions). • A composting toilet is on site, with a scoop and bucket of sawdust to cover waste. I you need to pee, find a tree! If it's number two, use the loo! • No electricity at the cabin or on the property • No running or potable drinking water. Our area has abundant small wildlife. We regularly see rabbits, geese, ducks, beaver, eagles, osprey and of course loons. Kayak over to our private island where there are blueberries, and a mating pair of eagles. Paddle over, have lunch, pick some blueberries for your morning cereal, go for a swim. You could also kayak through the thoroughfare to Holbrook Pond. The site is small, just 1 acre and we do live very close by. You will have privacy, but you may hear or see us or our dogs at points during your stay. We will provide a few jugs of water, but you may want to bring some of your own. Cookware, plates, cups, utensils, and cooler are available for use.

Sunflower Ranch Camping

Sunflower Ranch is the name of our home and property. Not only is our cozy, modest house sunflower yellow but in August it is surrounded with sunflowers of all sizes. We share our property with a flock of sweet hens and ducks.....and a few bossy roosters. Eggs are available for purchase if needed. There is a little greenhouse with herbs, greens and strawberries. The field is also an apple orchard that mostly feeds the wildlife. The tent site is privately placed in our cove unseen from the house. We wanted to offer a site that we would enjoy as well and feels like it is in a world of its own. We spend all of our free time outside, camping and paddling the local rivers and lakes. Tommy and I can recommend many beautiful remote Maine adventures for you to experience that are located off the grid and away from all other humans. The sweet city of Ellsworth is only 7 miles away for all of your provisions and Otis General Store is 1 mile away.. they have everything to get you through plus beer, wine, ice and homemade pizza. We can give you a pass to visit the Beech Hill Pond Beach also only 1 mile away (I walk there all the time) which has clear water and a sandy bottom. Great spot to spend the day sunbathing and swimming. I can offer yoga, personal training, boxing and paddleboard lessons or SUP yoga for some onsite physical fitness fun upon request. Learn more about this land: 16 by 12 ft A-Frame on a platform overlooking our private cove on Graham Lake. Walk through the forest trail to the Beech Hill Pond Stream and find a private little swim spot under a mini waterfall . Great fishing, loon watching, eagles and herons. Enjoy paddling and exploring right from your tent site. Bird watching bliss! Very peaceful and quiet. Canoe or 2 kayaks included.
