We have a farm, DO NOT have Cell phones. Only near computer or LAND LINE phone, a few times a day. If you need to contact us, there may be response delay.
We also drive through Searenity guest area several times a day, and if you need anything you can always ask in person.

Paved boat launch next door, with a dock over there. Undisturbed forest surrounds my land, thick stands of trees along the road and all around. Maine classes this type of property as Remote Primitive camping. Take out your own trash, small bags for gas station trash cans, and bring some water. People marvel at the property and relax. Tucked among spruce, fir, and birch on Sunshine Island in Deer Isle–Stonington, Four Acre Woods began more than 60 years ago as a small, family-run campground known as Sunshine Campground. Travelers from across the world visited this quiet island forest, drawn to its raw beauty and the peaceful energy that generations before us had loved and cared for.
The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. Visitors once again gather under the birches and spruces—sharing campfires, slow mornings, quiet nights, and the timeless island calm that makes this land so special.

The Little Yellow House is located on Gotts Island, Maine. Gotts is a private island with no stores or cars and is powered entirely by private solar. It was once a thriving year-round community but is now a small, tight-knit group of summer residents. Gotts was also home to famous Maine author Ruth Moore—her most well-known book (later adapted into a film), Speak to the Winds, was written about the island community.
There is no ferry service to Gotts, so you will need to arrange or hire a private boat to reach the island and bring all the provisions you’ll need. The island faces Mount Desert Island and overlooks the iconic Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
The Little Yellow House sits at the top of a hill. It is a small off-grid building with a sleeping loft. Water is hand-pumped into a tank, which provides running water for the house.
There is electricity for lights and plugs, but devices should be charged during the day while power is most abundant.
There is a shared outhouse (papered with Celestial Seasonings tea boxes) and a shared outdoor shower attached to our main house with on-demand hot water. We also provide solar shower bags.
There is no refrigerator, but we provide a large Yeti cooler that keeps items cold for at least a week. The house includes a propane oven and stove, along with all the basic cooking essentials. We provide sheets, blankets, and towels.
Our property features fruit trees, a croquet/badminton court, and spruce forests. You’re welcome to explore the island via a network of trails through the woods. There are multiple beaches, granite boulders, clam flats, and even rapids to ride when the tide flows into the harbor.
Nearby islands can be explored by kayak, and a sandbar connects Little Gotts Island to Big Gotts at low tide.
Our home is located across the lawn from the Little Yellow House. When we are on-site, we keep free-range ducks and geese, with eggs available for purchase. We also have a small cat and a very large dog. If you bring a dog, we ask that it be kept on a leash to protect our animals. Our dog will always be on a leash or line as well.
Gotts Island is a rare and special place that few people get the chance to experience. Enjoy the beauty of the Acadia region—without the crowds.

Big Moose Inn Cabins & CampgroundIrving O. Hunt and his brother Lyman built some rough camps on Millinocket Lake before they became interested in the Nesowadnehunk Stream region. Whether or not their old camps were at the same site as the present camps on Millinocket Lake we do not know.The Millinocket Lake Camps, known today as Big Moose Inn, are located on a narrow spit of land separating Ambejejus Lake and Millinocket Lake. Before a dam controlled Ambajejus’ water level, it was possible to pole up the short stream from Millinocket Lake into Ambejejus.Fred Spencer build the camps, originally named Camp Eureka, in 1899 or 1900 and ran them with his brother. With the founding of Millinocket only a few years earlier and lumbering roads nearing Katahdin, the two lakes became more easily accessible. Camp Eureka was advertised as the only camp reachable by both boat (from Norcross) and road (from Millinocket). In 1905, the rate was $1.50 per day, meals included. Spencer also claimed the lakes had no flies or mosquitoes during spring and summer- a phenomenon caused by the way winds blow across the lakes, which makes it difficult for insects to gain a foothold.The camps’ name changed to Camp Spencer and later to Spencer’s Camps. Around 1929 the lease was transferred to Elmer Woodworth, who lived with his wife on a nearby island while they operated the camps. Elmer, a well-known guide, trapped over the winter, and his wife served as the camp cook. The couple soon renamed the camps Millinocket Lake Camps and Trading Post. They also maintained an outlying camp on Sandy Stream for their guests. In 1941, a major fire broke out in the area. The Woodworths saved the camps by wetting them down, but lost their island home when a stray spark jumped the cove. There is some evidence that, for a short time, a gentleman named Johnny Given either held the lease or managed the camps for the Woodworths. Except for that brief change the Woodworths operated the camps for many years until they passed the lease on to their son Ray, who ran them with his wife Muriel.In 1977, the lease was transferred to Bob and Frederica (“Teddy”) Boynton, who in 1981 sold the trading post to Erwin and Maureen Bacon. The Boyntons retained the sporting camp operation and later added a public restaurant. Teddy renamed the camps Big Moose Inn. Bob and his son Bruce made many renovations to the camps, while Teddy decorated and furnished them. The Boynton Family has remained involved in the success of the inn and restaurant. After Teddy’s death in 1991, management passed to Bruce and his sister Laurie, but Bob and other family members are still very involved.The dam separates the flowages of the two lakes. Millinocket Lake is about eight feet above its original level, and Ambajejus is now some 21 feet above its original level. Our camp is located on a quaint pristine, offshore Maine island. We are an easy 1 mile walk from the ferry landing once you arrive.
We have a shared use golf cart for our guests to get to and from camp!
Great Cranberry Island is a beautiful peaceful place where the pace of life slows, nature abounds and the stars are bright.
There is a small well stocked general store,, a museum, cafe and miles of pristine trails and rocky beaches to explore. Bicycles can be brought on the passenger ferries and are a great way to get around and further explore the island.
Our camp is on the site of our former organic farm called Cabin Creek Farm overlooking the ocean (a tidal estuary called the pool), where we grew flowers, herbs and veggies.
You can even kayak directly to us at high tide.
The sites are a combo of a mixed manicured deciduous and conifer forest and open spaces with ocean views.

When this area was originally settled, the farm was located on the "highway" from Camden to seasonal pastures in Lincolnville. The trails leading to the park still go by the old foundations that dotted the old Government Road from Camden. The farm has 46 acres of flowing pasture, hardwood forest and flower and vegetable gardens. At the heart of the property is a large farm pond that has been used to water livestock for generations. What an absolute gem! My second time staying at Slippery Rock, and it for sure won’t be my last! Site 1 is the perfect secluded site under a bit of shade and with the most perfect ideal private little beach down to the river. John and Pat are so sweet and I thank them for everything! The site was so clean and welcoming and even a bundle of wood waiting by the fire!

This site was huge, hidden away and private from the other beach sites (but still close), and had amazing views. This is definitely the best spot by the waterfront! My dog and I loved waking up to the sounds of birds and walking down to the private beach. Would 100% recommend!

Loved the friendly staff and the cabin atmosphere all around. Site AB backed up to the main road but wasn’t busy on our 1 night overnight. Bathrooms and showers were clean and right there. The lakes on both sides were very pretty and great if you wanted to canoe or kayak. It was the perfect place to stay before going out on the Golden Road or to Baxter State Park. Absolutely loved the checkin area with fireplace and restaurant behind it.

This is such a special place! It’s very beautiful and peaceful! There were beautiful, sunrises, and sunsets. He enjoyed watching seals and seeing many different kinds of birds. This was my second time there and I will definitely be back!

I loved this spot! I had a lovely quiet serene evening overlooking the Androscoggin. I awoke to the sunrise over the fields behind me. Enjoyed my morning coffee with the birds singing . They also were frolicking in the water. There are trails to walk, kayaks to rent, and the water to wade in.
The campsite was pristine clean. I had my own porta let, a picnic table and fire ring. The hosts are great communicators . I could only stay one night this trip , but now that I have discovered what a magical place it is , I will definitely be back!

Great spot! Clean port-a-potty, excellent directions given the landscape and a fun drive up to the land. Peaceful spot with 360 degree views and close to Blue Hill. This is a great place to boondock.

An absolutely incredible stay! John is an affable, knowledgeable, and kind host. You can tell he and his wife truly care about the land and its history. His dedication to conservation warmed our hearts. The campsite is unforgettable— beautifully cared for with excellent amenities (swimming beach, fire pit, fire wood and port-a-potty). We enjoyed waking up to the sounds of songbirds and the sight of monarch butterflies, as the sun rose over the river. We can’t wait to come back.

An absolute gem of a place, and exactly what I hoped Hipcamp would be when I signed up six years ago…but unfortunately they aren’t all this wonderful. This is a true 10 out of 10 spot. Beautiful solitude, excellent stargazing, totally private, and extraordinarily well cared for. Just a couple miles away from great swimming holes at the ponds. Hannah is the perfect host, a truly lovely human. I really hope to come back!

Beautiful campsite, SO peaceful (listen to the birds, feel the breeze, smell the meadow flowers). Pat met us at the gate and showed us to our site. We rented the canoe and were so glad we took it out on the river, it was gorgeous. Will definitely be back and have already shared this spot with friends!
