Tucked among spruce, fir, and birch on Sunshine Island in Deer Isle–Stonington, Four Acre Woods began more than 60 years ago as a small, family-run campground known as Sunshine Campground. Travelers from across the world visited this quiet island forest, drawn to its raw beauty and the peaceful energy that generations before us had loved and cared for.
The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. Visitors once again gather under the birches and spruces—sharing campfires, slow mornings, quiet nights, and the timeless island calm that makes this land so special.

We have a farm, DO NOT have Cell phones. Only near computer or LAND LINE phone, a few times a day. If you need to contact us, there may be response delay.
We also drive through Searenity guest area several times a day, and if you need anything you can always ask in person.

PRIVATE waterfront campsite - EXCLUSIVE use!! Eagle View Pines, in beautiful Hiram Maine, is a peaceful and private 2+ acre property surrounded by tall pine trees with 300 feet of Saco River frontage! Guests will enjoy a floating dock for swimming, fishing, and kayaking! Two kayaks and one canoe are on site for guest use. Guests can also enjoy a picnic table, Adirondack chairs, a solo stove for campfires, and a hammock for relaxing and watching the eagles flying above as well as the stunning sunsets! A 30/50 amp electric hookup is available for your RV or camper (and standard outlets for use if you are tenting!) and our gravel driveway can fit a 30 foot camper. A Porta-potty is available for campers with tents. Guests will need to be self contained, take waste with them, and leave no trace. Dogs are more than welcome here (please pick up after your pet!), but please note this property sits approximately 20 feet above the riverbank, with natural stairs leading down to the water. This site is not appropriate for very young, unsupervised children.
The Saco river can be unforgiving, and this is an ever-changing site. At any given time, depending on the weather, the water can be high, or low, and this can change the landscape to some extent. We are always making improvements and cleaning the land (cutting dead or fallen trees etc.) so we appreciate your understanding of these rustic qualities!
Hiram is located about 30 minutes from North Conway NH with amazing restaurants and outlet shopping, and about an hour from the coast and Portland Maine. Naples and the Sebago Lake area are just a short drive as well! There are several hiking trails nearby. The Mount Cutler Park and Conservation Area is just a 10 minute drive, featuring trails that provide stunning views of Hiram and the surrounding mountains. Or, you can simply go for an evening stroll down the charming, quiet dirt road after your relaxing day on the river!

Forty five years ago, our family started assembling 400 acres of woods and fields on the banks of the beautiful Androscoggin River. We enjoy actively managing the property for wildlife habitat and tree growth. The diverse landscape includes over 1/2 a mile of river frontage, a 10 acre wildlife pond, rolling hills in the meadows and steep forested terrain with more than 10 miles of multi-use trails running throughout. Our lands have long been open to local hikers, bikers and cross country skiers, we are excited to share this beautiful property with a larger community. Scout for wildlife and birds, on our private 400 acres of forests and fields. Tire yourself by hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing the 10 miles of private trails. Located across the river from Riverlands State Park, just minutes from Lewiston-Auburn, Bates College, local breweries and just 2 1/2 hours from Boston. Big Moose Inn Cabins & CampgroundIrving O. Hunt and his brother Lyman built some rough camps on Millinocket Lake before they became interested in the Nesowadnehunk Stream region. Whether or not their old camps were at the same site as the present camps on Millinocket Lake we do not know.The Millinocket Lake Camps, known today as Big Moose Inn, are located on a narrow spit of land separating Ambejejus Lake and Millinocket Lake. Before a dam controlled Ambajejus’ water level, it was possible to pole up the short stream from Millinocket Lake into Ambejejus.Fred Spencer build the camps, originally named Camp Eureka, in 1899 or 1900 and ran them with his brother. With the founding of Millinocket only a few years earlier and lumbering roads nearing Katahdin, the two lakes became more easily accessible. Camp Eureka was advertised as the only camp reachable by both boat (from Norcross) and road (from Millinocket). In 1905, the rate was $1.50 per day, meals included. Spencer also claimed the lakes had no flies or mosquitoes during spring and summer- a phenomenon caused by the way winds blow across the lakes, which makes it difficult for insects to gain a foothold.The camps’ name changed to Camp Spencer and later to Spencer’s Camps. Around 1929 the lease was transferred to Elmer Woodworth, who lived with his wife on a nearby island while they operated the camps. Elmer, a well-known guide, trapped over the winter, and his wife served as the camp cook. The couple soon renamed the camps Millinocket Lake Camps and Trading Post. They also maintained an outlying camp on Sandy Stream for their guests. In 1941, a major fire broke out in the area. The Woodworths saved the camps by wetting them down, but lost their island home when a stray spark jumped the cove. There is some evidence that, for a short time, a gentleman named Johnny Given either held the lease or managed the camps for the Woodworths. Except for that brief change the Woodworths operated the camps for many years until they passed the lease on to their son Ray, who ran them with his wife Muriel.In 1977, the lease was transferred to Bob and Frederica (“Teddy”) Boynton, who in 1981 sold the trading post to Erwin and Maureen Bacon. The Boyntons retained the sporting camp operation and later added a public restaurant. Teddy renamed the camps Big Moose Inn. Bob and his son Bruce made many renovations to the camps, while Teddy decorated and furnished them. The Boynton Family has remained involved in the success of the inn and restaurant. After Teddy’s death in 1991, management passed to Bruce and his sister Laurie, but Bob and other family members are still very involved.The dam separates the flowages of the two lakes. Millinocket Lake is about eight feet above its original level, and Ambajejus is now some 21 feet above its original level. Explore endless mountains streams, trails to the Appalachian Trail, and remote dirt roads in the heart of the Mahoosucs from your secluded walk-in low impact tent site with privy. Deep swimming holes and trout fishing beckon.
There are five sites in total. Hillside, Riverside and Fireside each have a picnic table, they all share a fire pit and a privy and are on the side of the road closest to the river. Main Eastside and the North site also share a fire pit and privy, Main Eastside has a picnic table, these two sites are across the street from the river which is just a short walk away.

A gracefully designed switchback driveway leads you to a cleared level landing. The spot is elevated nestled in among hardwood trees where you can pitch a tent or park a self-contained RV (No larger than 24'). Due to the switchback design of the driveway, a combination car/truck and towed camper configuration will not work.
It's a two minute walk to the neighborhood association dock, 10 minute walk to the open ocean and rugged Maine coastline.
East Boothbay is quiet, relaxing, and beautiful. Be sure to stop by East Boothbay General Store for delicious house made breakfast and lunch sandwiches, salads, pizza, a selection of beers and wine; eat in on the small porch or take away for a picnic. Walk or bike along the narrow quiet road to the ocean where waves are crashing on the rocks. Don't miss the gorgeous sunsets-simply spectacular. Or just relax at the site and enjoy the beauty of the nature that surrounds you where you might spot a deer or hear an owl hooting nearby. It's a short 10 minute drive to Boothbay Harbor for whale and puffin watches, great restaurants, sunset and reggae cruises, and sailing trips. Welcome to Lilac Firefly! This is a residential 7 acre property in a quiet and safe neighborhood. We are right off the main road for easy access about 15-20 minutes south of Bangor. It is very peaceful and calm here. We live in the 5 bedroom older farmhouse where you can use the bathroom if needed. You will receive a code for the electronic door lock. Upon booking, I will send a welcome email with all info needed for your stay. There is a small stream and community fireplace by the 4 campsites and another fireplace closer to the garden. The designated campsites are at the rear of the property and are first come, first serve. A tent can be set up anywhere on the 7 acres and does not need to be in the designated campsite area. We have easily accommodated 20+ campers at once (6-8 groups), though typically you might be the only group here. Car camping, van life, and tents are welcome! We previously accepted RVs, but for 2026 this has changed due to tenants now in an RV. There are some lightly wooded areas, apple trees, a pear tree, and an open field. We are pet friendly and there animals that live here too. I travel a lot as a DJ and audio tech and might not be here, but have a self check in process and video I will send. Roommates are generally here. Maine Savings Amphitheatre is 15 min away (concerts in Bangor). Acadia National Park is just over 1 hour away. Bangor and Bucksport are both about 15 min away. Fort Knox is about 20 min away. From the campsites, the road and house are not visible. We have flowers when in season, deer, turkey, birds, and friendly creatures that visit.
Please be ready to be self sufficient and sustainable in any weather. Well water is available at the RV posts and passes all tests - pure and safe for drinking.
Chopped, split, and dried wood (pine) is available included in your Hipcamp fee! You can burn what you need for the day/night. Thank you.
Sometimes we get campers who are going to a concert in Bangor, which is awesome. Any hours coming and going are fine! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

I had a big site. The water and electric was over by the bathrooms and if I had my RV it would have been a pain to get to but since i was in my camper van it was no problem. The campgrounds were really clean and well taken care of and so was the bathrooms. Campgrounds are really close to Baxter State Park

This campground was perfectly situated in the heart of God's country. It sits between Lake Ambejejus and Millinockett Lake. We found Ambejejus to be outstanding for swimming. The sites were very spacious and flat. AB was right next to the bathrooms/showers, which was also nice. There are also 3 restaurants within walking distance that offer a nice variety of cuisines, ranging from bar food/sandwiches to upscale entrees. We really had a great time at Big Moose!
