Each year we expand on this campground until it's full vision is a reality. For 2026 we have a few campsites, some have platforms, some without. The plan this year is to add a cabin, woodshed, bathroom and work on the trail system. Each campsite has a buffer of vegetation with the lake as a view, a fire pit and space to have more than one tent. There will be a waste bag toilet. No running water, not much cell service, no electricity. Park at the main road and bring your camping items into the woods. Your site will be labeled. Trash in, trash out. Firewood for sale, camping gear for rent. Canoe and walk the beach (if low levels). Dog friendly: must be friendly, on a leash and please be mindful of dogs digging. Here we value the land, it's sanctuary and soil erosion prevention along the shoreline. Friends and Family Market on rte 1A is the closest resupply.

We maintain pollinator habitats, tend an fledgling orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle. Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. Tucked among spruce, fir, and birch on Sunshine Island in Deer Isle–Stonington, Four Acre Woods began more than 60 years ago as a small, family-run campground known as Sunshine Campground. Travelers from across the world visited this quiet island forest, drawn to its raw beauty and the peaceful energy that generations before us had loved and cared for.
The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. Visitors once again gather under the birches and spruces—sharing campfires, slow mornings, quiet nights, and the timeless island calm that makes this land so special.

FAQ: Our cabin is an off grid (very limited power, now way to charge or plug in AC devices) post and beam structure that we built 9 years ago. It has a full kitchen, wood stove, and screened porch. There is a large (150 gallon) tank of water for doing dishes and camp showers but we do not suggest drinking it. There is a generous supply of lanterns (both battery and inflatable solar) flashlights and string lights for lighting. We have wired lights that run off DC power when there is enough solar and we provide some battery packs for charging phones. We highly suggest bring some way to charge any of your personal electronics. There is no reliable way to do that in the cabin.
This is a small two story timber frame cabin off grid and secluded deep in the woods. It has a separate outhouse as well as shower stall to use the solar shower bags in. The cabin has a king sized bed in the loft with a child size fold down bunk above it; there is also a pull out couch on the first floor. As well as a kitchen, screened in porch and fire pit. Linen, dishes and utensils are not included please bring all that you need. There is a propane 4 burner stove with oven and solar shower bags. Trash and campfire wood is included. We are very busy with kids and work, we try our best to clean and re-supply between guests but it is not always possible, please let us know if something needs attention!

Stuart Little’s dream house is an off-grid cabin on the edge of the woods, in the backyard of our home. The cabin is perfect for people who are camping, but want a little more accommodation. It has two futons that can turn into double beds, table and chairs, small porch, outhouse, limited power and a picnic table. Bring your sleeping bag, headlamp, camp stove, and you are all set! There are also places to pitch a tent, if desired.
We are just a mile down the road from where EB White lived. The setting of Stuart Little's dream house (our yard) gives a glimpse into some real Maine living: Boats and boat trailers, a rambling garden, and often a free pile at the end of the driveway.
*Note: There is no heat or/ac. There is limited power via an extension chord for a couple devices. We do sometimes lose power if it is windy.
*Note: There is no kitchen. camp stove + fuel can be rented for $5/night
*Note: Please bring a sleeping bag. Otherwise, bedding/linens can be rented at $10/bed.
*Hip Camp likes to say we are less than an hour to Acadia National Park, but I feel that is misleading. It's usually about 1.5 hours to get to any of the trails/beaches.

Unplug and reconnect with nature at our rustic campsite nestled among the mossy rocks and ferns of Cape Jellison in Stockton Springs. This is a raw, off-grid campsite, so bring your own gear, bedding, lighting, water, and supplies and experience Maine’s wild beauty up close.
The campsite is located just off Rocky Point Road, a quiet dead-end dirt road. The platform tent is visible from the road, but traffic is generally limited to neighbors and the occasional vehicle misdirected by GPS toward nearby Sears Island.
The site includes a sturdy platform tent with a queen-size bed frame, a private portable camp toilet, and a simple camp shower bag that guests can fill with their own water. Bring your own sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, toiletries, and other camping supplies. There is no electricity, torch fuel, running water, trash service, or lighting provided onsite.
The toilet uses disposable waste bags. This is a Leave No Trace campsite, and campers must securely tie and pack out all used toilet bags, pet waste, trash, and personal belongings when they leave. There is no waste disposal available onsite.
The campsite’s highlight is a wooded trail leading to quiet beach access on Stockton Harbor. The walk takes approximately ten minutes for most adults but may take longer with small children or while carrying supplies. The trail includes uneven ground, roots, rocks, slopes, and a set of stairs leading down to the beach. Fire Lane 3 briefly interrupts the wooded trail, so campers will cross the lane before continuing toward the water.
At the bottom of the beach stairs, you’ll find a second fire ring that is perfect for an evening drink or early morning coffee. Search the shoreline for Maine sea glass, watch for eagles and deer, or enjoy views across Stockton Harbor.
The nearby Stockton Harbor Yacht Club offers a full-service bar and restaurant on the water, along with kayak and canoe rentals when available.

Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Observatory: 10 minutes
Bucksport Waterfront: 15 minutes

Welcome to Lulu's. Where you can get a little crazy under the moon or you can take in the peace and serenity of the stillness in the woods. Depends on what you are looking for! No neighbors to infringe on your ideal get away. The large cabin has a welcoming front porch to enjoy the amazing sunrises over Streaked Mtn. 100 acres of privacy to hike, watch wildlife and just relax. Cabin has outside facilities. Off the grid-no electric or running water. Cell service is adequate. 1 gallon of fresh well water provided for drinking and 10 gallons for washing/cooking.
Bring your own linens for a queen size bed, twin bunk beds and a full pull out couch. 2 pillows are supplied with a pillow protective cover and pillow case which are washed after each guest. Pots, pans and utensils, are onsite which are washed between campers; trash bags, compost bags, paper towels, dish soap, dish towels and a 2 burner propane stove(green canisters needed) and an older propane table top grill are provided. Camp fire grill on site if you prefer cooking over open flame. There are some battery operated light switches and solar lights in the camp and outhouse. Downtown Norway has quaint shops to browse! Norway Lake has a public beach and boat dock. Many hiking trails nearby-Noyes Mtn, Patch Mnt, Singpole and Streaked Mtn to name a few. ATV trails (also can be used for off-road biking)onsite connect with other towns for many miles and hours of riding. Plenty of lakes/rivers for kayaking. Casino, race track and breweries for night life. Oxford Hills has much to offer.

Get your "groove" on or hang loose here on a precious little island with a big bridge just off route one in the heart of Midcoast. Hundreds of guests report the perfect balance of upbeat fun and chill time and call our place and hospitality "magic", "amazing" and "holy guacamole!" It is a lovely spot just off the beaten path but close enough to access the frey. :)
I welcome my guests personally and have likely had a chat before you booked. I like to know what your hopes and priorities are around your stay before I accept so I can meet both of our needs. When you arrive, I will greet you and share a little history/tour of the place. I accept travelers between 4 and 9 pm but like all of us schedules fluctuate and we can roll some. There's a strong chance on an average Maine clear summer evening, I have the campfire going and the solar lights around the yard are charged for their evening gentle show.
All of the spaces I rent are bedrooms only. You walk a few steps/yards to my 5 bedroom home and access two showers and some kitchen use. I also have an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen that is cute and for your use. It's fun to cook on the fire too! I prefer folks to limit cooking esp in hot weather but support healthier eating and may share some of my foraging tips. The rooms are equipped with plenty of linens and fan power. You will be cozy either way the temps go.
There is a lovely porch on the log home where you can sit and enjoy the sunset and lots of wildlife activity. The back yard has tether ball and lots of seating as well as the good sized fire pit with ghosts of hundreds of fireside chats gone by. I look forward to ours!
Next door there is a gravel road on a lightly traveled road for your walking or biking pleasure. I am happy to join you in a hilly roller coaster cycling experience and have a few bikes to offer up. I am a WWOOF host and have occasional "helpers" and you are welcome to explore my veggie and flower gardens.

We are off the beaten path in the forest near the White Mountain National Forest. A 6 to 8 minute hike from your site gets you to a private lake.
We have two local waterfalls only 2 miles away. Drive back out to 5 Kezars road. Take a right on the paved road. It will turn back into dirt. Keep on this road until you see a beautiful stone house on your left. Keep going just up the hill and you will see a right turn into the woods where you can park. There are no signs for Kezar gorge. Hike towards the sound of the falls. There is a small cave under the falls you can climb up into if you are a strong swimmer. There is a second set of falls if you hike down the river. A most magical spot for sure.

Virginia lake is in the White Mountain National forest and is only 6 miles ( a ten minute drive away) Sometimes you have to hike in a bit to get to the beach. Very private. Shallow beach is great for children and dogs.
Keewayden Lake Dam is a fun place to swim in a local lake. Only an 8 minute drive
Keoka lake has a nice beach with a dock to swim too. !0 minute drive

Best site ever!!! The most gorgeous hipcamp we've stayed at. The pics don't do it justice! Private little sandy beach on the river, SUPER comfy bed within the canvas tent, lots of amazing amenities (loved the canoe and so did our pup!) with the cooking stove and fire pit set up. Nice bonus of the porto potty as well. Can't wait till we get to come back!

John’s land is a little slice of heaven! My boyfriend and I had a lovely, romantic, peaceful stay in the tiny home :) Our first glamping experience was 10/10. The river access, walkable trails, views & wildlife really made this weekend unforgettable. Recommend taking a kayak out during sunset!

Weekend Trip to Borestone Bungalow | Off-Grid Cabin
Borestone Bungalow was clean, cozy, and very comfortable. The camp is new, and well furnished with everything you need, including solar electricity, propane backup lighting, a refrigerator, gas stove, wood stove and kitchenware. It’s still somewhat rustic—no running water and an outhouse—but some water is provided and the outhouse was very clean - I was totally at ease. The setting is incredibly quiet and peaceful, and I loved listening to the morning birds from the screened porch. The few afternoon trains never bothered me. It’s also perfectly located near Borestone Mountain hiking trails and swimming spots along Big and Little Wilson Streams. The host was responsive and helpful. The description notes the steep driveway, but my low-clearance Hyundai Sonata handled it without a problem.
I highly recommend if you want to escape into nature yet still have access to many modern conveniences. Great stay and I’d be happy to stay again.

Sandi's place is absolutely wonderful. The pasture tent offers the most beautiful view with the sheep grazing in the field and mountains in the distance. The night sky is incredible. Sandi and her husband Brandon are the nicest people! They made sure our stay was pleasant and that we had everything we needed. Upon arrival we were provided 6 farm fresh eggs and 2 ice blocks for the cooler. We were also greeted by their puppy Tucker, who is the cutest. They have almost everything you'd need for a camp out. There was a wood stove and extra blankets in the event it was cooler at night however the tent stayed quite comfortable and we didn't need either. They provided extra linens, towels, pot and pan, plates, cups and utensils. There is a propane grill to cook on. There is the cutest out house with running water. I know that sounds strange but it's adorable. There is an outdoor solar shower however we chose to heat our water by the fire pit. The property also has a Christmas tree farm, gazebo, covered bridge and a beautiful lighted path to walk. They are in the process of building a sauna and bath house. My family absolutely had the best time there. My 11 year old son loved the sheep, particularly Jack. We will definitely be coming back to this property. We highly recommend it.

I love staying at Woolley Farm! One of my favorite parts of each visit is sitting on the screened porch in the morning, sipping coffee while listening to the sheep in the meadow and watching the hummingbirds buzzing around the flowers. It’s such a peaceful and relaxing way to start the day.
Another thing I love is that my dog can come along with me. Sandi is so welcoming and even leaves treats for him!
The location is perfect, offering the peace and beauty of the countryside while still being close to so many attractions. We can easily take a day trip to the ocean and beautiful beaches in Saco, Maine, in less than an hour. It’s the best of both worlds, relaxing on the farm and exploring the coast whenever we want.
The thoughtful touches, beautiful surroundings, and pet-friendly hospitality keep me coming back. I highly recommend Woolley Farm to anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable getaway.

Weekend Trip to Borestone Bungalow | Off-Grid Cabin
Had the most relaxing weekend away at this little cabin. I stayed for two nights but wish I could have stayed longer. With borestone mountain, little Wilson falls and ATV trails so close you don’t have to travel far for an adventure and Monson is an adorable little town to visit. Everything was so clean and kept up, the outhouse was the nicest I’d ever seen, even decorated! Great place to enjoy a book, some music, a fire, peace and quiet, or even a place to telework somewhere new with very good wifi. I was only my own but it would also be a great spot for a couple of small family. I will definitely be adding this to my list of places to return to.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Valley Nature Center
So fun!! This seriously rocked. If you are a family looking to take kids on a low effort trip… book this now! The cabin was perfect for my family (2 adults, two 8yo boys, 2 yo and infant. Was simple to pull a wagon to. The covered picnic table was awesome. There was no traffic past our cabin all weekend making it feel so secluded which was awesome for our sometimes anxious dog. The boys loved riding their bikes on the trails and exploring the ponds. We can’t wait to come back!!!!

What a great area I was really surprised when I got down in there that we couldn't hear any traffic whatsoever which was really nice it's really tucked away nicely deep down in the woods there listening to the loons watching the eagles the people before I left it a little messy so took it upon myself to clean up what they left behind cute little setup though can't wait to go back going to try out the other cabin next

We loved our two-night stay at Sunrise Cabin! The cabin is beautiful, peaceful, and private, and sleeping out on the sunroom was incredible!! We were visited by the sheep herd one morning and got to see them right outside the cabin. We stayed with our two cats who made themselves right at home. Sandi let us come down and meet the horses, chickens, and of course the sheep, which was definitely a highlight of the trip. There was tons of birdwatching (LOTS of hummingbirds), including owls at night. A wonderful place to stay and we will definitely be back!! Thanks again for a great time, Sandi and Brandon!!
