Welcome to our page! Oak Grove Campsite is a beautiful, private campground near Savannah Ga. The campsite is nestled underneath one of our large oaks completed with plenty of room to roam around. Some of the features include a picnic table, large lighted firepit, hammock, wood swing, etc. We also have swings sets and a few other features for the kiddos.

Years ago we left our Miami handcrafted furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between the helpful aspects of the modern world and the good parts of the old, that maybe society should have held tight to. We wanted to play with this idea...while keeping it classy ;-)
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cottages, using solar energy, composting organics, sewing and reaping, in a way that is fair to our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" slow, simple living can feel. We all have personal priorities, and those will vary greatly. But within that, we can all include ways of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our neighbors.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, that they can appreciate our perspectives and some of our old-fashioned ways. Our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm. You can imagine, it has been a ton of work, sacrifice and expense to create a very special camp atmosphere. The farm was once a portion of the McTureus Plantation. Tony's family members were once enslaved on the plantation. Upon Emancipation a family member bought land and it remained in the family. Tony is a descendant of those family members whose foresight allowed us to be here today. The farm was once a portion of the McTureus Plantation. Tony's family members were once enslaved on the plantation. Upon Emancipation a family member bought land and it remained in the family. Tony is a descendant of those family members whose foresight allowed us to be here today. Tony's parents entrusted the care and preservation of the property to us and we are doing our best to be good stewards and teach the value of this property to our children and young grandchildren.

We loved this place so much we stayed an extra night. A beautiful, quiet spot on the bank of the While Chimney River, Belle Bluff Island campground is high on our return-someday list. Whether it’s fishing from the dock or listening to Richard, aka “The Mayor,” tell stories, this is a place to go if you’re looking to kick back and relax. Owner Ron McIntosh is a real gentleman - he graciously let us upgrade to an unoccupied larger site with a full view of the river and marsh. Two big thumbs up!

Great spot, private but not too remote - we felt safe having homes nearby. The land for the sites is nice wooded pine and it was fun seeing the farm animals nearby! Instructions were super clear and we really appreciated having a toilet tent 😊 definitely recommend if you’re staying in the area - not much to do right around it, but a good home base for visiting Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head.

A beautiful spot! Great location and friendly hosts. There were other campers but plenty of space for privacy. Porta potty’s were clean and easily accessible. Our dog was able to run around and even made friends with the hosts two pups!
Best part was waking up to all the birds singing from the tree tops! :)

We were traveling with our 5 year old son in our truck camper and our water system wasn’t working so we stayed at Curt’s place in a simple site with a picnic table and fire ring. The sites are all close to the restroom and shower so it wasn’t very convenient. There were some camper vans and folks staying in the cabins but it was very quiet. The outdoor shower was awesome and Curt and his family have done a great job of building everything from scratch. He met us at our site and showed us how to use everything. The birds were singing and we saw lots of stars that night! Thank you Curt and family!!

Great campground tucked away with a quiet, charming feel. Close proximity to nearby islands such as Sapelo, Blackbeard and many others for exploring. The campground is accompanied by a Marina making trips like these super streamline especially in the event you need to dock a boat or fuel up on gas. The bathrooms and showers were clean!!!
Side note - the owner was down to earth, super friendly, and very interesting to talk to! One of those rare, wise storytellers with a wealth of knowledge, you just want to sit and listen!! Super relatable, very cool guy! Also have to mention the Mayor, "Mayor Richard" that is, who welcomed us and got us quickly situated. Really cool man, extremely helpful, and fun! We'll be back!

Where to go
Coastal Georgia
There are several islands near Tybee Island where you can camp overnight. Just south, Little Tybee Island offers a truly primitive camping experience. Accessible only by boat or kayak, there are no facilities but campers can pitch a tent anywhere on the island. At Skidaway Island State Park, explore maritime forests and salt marshes then spend the night under Spanish moss and live oaks. Nearby Fort McAllister State Park offers Civil War historic sites, along with outdoor recreation and birding. Stay in a tent or RV at the campground, in a cottage, or head out into the backcountry to pitch a tent.
Inland Georgia
Head west and inland for city charms and more diverse geography. Private camping options let you stay in tents, RVs, or cabins near Savannah. Georgia’s oldest city is full of southern charm, ghost stories, and historic sites. Further west, Jack Hills State Park offers golf, a lake, and a campground that includes tent sites for tents and RVs and cabins. Go paddling or wildlife spotting at George L. Smith State Park, then spend the night in a cottage in the woods or camp lakeside. Magnolia Springs State Park lets you cool off in the natural springs, then stay in a tent, RV, or cabin.
Coastal South Carolina
If you can’t get enough of the coast, head north to North Carolina. Play a round of golf, hit the beach, or enjoy the resort lifestyle at popular Hilton Head. Stay at an RV resort on the island, or in a tent at a private campground on the mainland. Further north, Hunting Island State Park offers wilderness, wildlife, and saltwater lagoons, along with primitive, tent, and RV campsites, while Edisto Beach State Park offers an extensive trail network, maritime forest, and camping options that span walk-in tent sites to furnished cabins.
When to go
Visitors flock to Tybee Island in the summertime, especially over the weekends and holidays. For more manageable crowds, visit in the late spring and early fall, when the weather is still pleasant for beach and water activities. Hurricane season runs from June to November and can impact travel plans. Visit in fall for oyster season. Winter can be a good time for birding and a quiet escape.
Know before you go
- You can get around Tybee Island by bicycle, scooter, golf cart, and taxi, but you’ll want a car to get to and from the island. All public parking on the island is paid.
- Several beaches on Tybee Island offer wheelchair mats and fat-tired wheelchairs.
- Bring insect repellent. Mosquitoes can be an issue in the area.
- Pets are not allowed on beaches and buildings in most public parks.
- Dispersed camping and recreation on Georgia Wildlife Managed Areas (WMA), where permitted, usually requires a license, permit, or pass.
