The plantation is rich in Civil War history and people still find arrowhead 's, Civil war buttons and other Civil War related items on the dirt roads where the soldiers marched through the plantation. It is a quiet, peaceful neighborhood where owners enjoy the country life.

Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are your average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment. We are trying to figure out if a family can use their own hands and some grit to handcraft a life that you don't need a vacation from. Or better yet, that you would vacation to. Have we done that? Years ago we left our Miami handcrafted furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between the helpful aspects of the modern world and the good parts of the old, that maybe society should have held tight to. We wanted to play with this idea...while keeping it classy ;-)
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cottages, using solar energy, composting organics, sewing and reaping, in a way that is fair to our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" slow, simple living can feel. We all have personal priorities, and those will vary greatly. But within that, we can all include ways of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our neighbors.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, that they can appreciate our perspectives and some of our old-fashioned ways. Our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm. You can imagine, it has been a ton of work, sacrifice and expense to create a very special camp atmosphere. Any donation to show appreciation for its use, if even for a single night, is a valuable support to our efforts.
*** Special Note: Heirloom has one full-hookup site for medium sized setups, that we use for long term month-to-month stays. Heirloom is our home, so we are judicious in determining that the guests that stay there are a good match for us and them.

An incredible marsh front oasis. Beautiful sunsets, sunrises, and stars as far as the eye can see. A plethora of wildlife can be seen here. Don’t get too close to the pond, our resident alligator (Allen) is close to 9’ long! We also have active honeybee hives. Fireflies can be seen during the summer months. Bug spray is highly encouraged during warmer months.

The farm was once a portion of the McTureus Plantation. Tony's family members were once enslaved on the plantation. Upon Emancipation a family member bought land and it remained in the family. Liz's land met our needs for an affordable spot to park our camper while we explored the area. We spent most of our time at Hunting Island State Park and it was close enough for multiple trips there and back during our stay. We also enjoyed biking the Spanish Moss Trail. We had everything we needed at the site and Liz responded quickly to questions we had upon arrival. The permanent shelter is a nice addition. We did have trouble with mosquitos and other biting pests while there, so be prepared for that. As other reviews have stated, it is on a busy road and there is road noise, although you can't see the road. We knew that when choosing the site.

Hands down BEST HipCamp ever!
Dustin's environment would be best described as a sanctuary. The indoor/outdoor lounge is comfortable for just about any weather. Even if raining, you could listen to the rain while surrounded by lush plants and trees and stay dry. If you wanted, you could watch just about whatever you would want with the Roku. The hot tub has an umbrella making soaking relaxing any time day or night regardless of the weather. Dustin provides quality screens with zippers to keep bugs out which I'm now considering making my own lower deck at home, screened in the exact spot same way!! Dustin has done an amazing job with accentuating the night time beauty with lit trees and walk ways, making it easy and scenic, to get to the immaculate bathroom, the washer and dryer was almost a ridiculous treat... who would have though?? A mini fridge.... thank you!! Electrical outlets available inside and out of the lounge . The patio vibe and fire pit, is a space not only aesthetically pleasing, but provide great a great function of minimizing/eliminating dirt from getting into vehicles. Dustin made obtaining firewood SO EASY!!! Cornhole and horseshoes surrounded by foliage that included lights gently illuminating bushes and trees.... I mean, really?? The vibe there is prefect!
Oh.... forgot to add.... a bonus pleasure of the fresh scent of honeysuckle everywhere!!!

Such a great stay! this spot is a hidden gem. The flat gravel made RV setup easy, and the fire pit, chairs, table, and hammock were all perfect for relaxing. Also full hookup!! The river view with ducks was peaceful and really made the place special. Really easy to drive downtown and get dinner and drinks.
The host was fantastic, attentive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. We’d definitely stay again and highly recommend it.

Weekend Trip to Heirloom Hamlet
We spent this past weekend at Heirloom Hamlet celebrating my wife birthday, and it ended up being one of those stays you don’t forget.
Curt and Ani have created something truly special here. The cottage is entirely custom-built, and you can feel the time, care, and intention that went into every detail. It’s not just a place to stay, it reflects a year of hands-on work and passion, and it shows in the craftsmanship and overall feel.
One of the most thoughtful touches was walking into the cottage and finding a birthday cake waiting for my wife. We didn’t expect it at all, and it says a lot about the kind of hosts they are.
The property itself feels like a quiet little bird sanctuary. Free-range chickens wandering around, constant songbirds in the background, it honestly felt like a bird haven tucked into the coastal pines and oaks. There’s also a massive 200+ year old live oak right in the center of the property that really stands out. It has a presence to it and ended up being one of our favorite parts of the whole place.
The design of the cottage strikes a great balance, custom and modern, but still warm and grounded in the setting. Nothing feels generic.
If you’re looking for something unique, peaceful, and built with real intention behind it, this place delivers. We’ll definitely be back!

Honestly, the best camping I’ve ever experienced. We camped down closer to the river and had a blast, the kids swam all day, the dogs were stoked, caught some fish and didn’t have a worry in the world. Ian is a super awesome host and we will 100% be returning very soon.
