Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are your average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment. We are trying to figure out if a family can use their own hands and some grit to handcraft a life that you don't need a vacation from. Or better yet, that you would vacation to. Have we done that? You be the judge.
About 4 years ago we left our South Florida handcrafting furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between some of the old fashioned world that we'd found ourselves missing, and the handful of modern advancements that were actually beneficial. All while keeping it classy.
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cabins, installing solar, composting, planting, and building toilets that are better for our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature. Ani and I are big believers in being mindful and respectful of our environment wherever reasonable. So, we are incorporating both alternative and municipal utilities as they can fit into our homestead design and limited budget.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" small living can feel. We all have personal priorities and those will vary greatly, and that's okay. But no person should be so self-absorbed that we have completely shut out the importance of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our fellowman. After all, if we don't have that, what do we have?
To be completely transparent, though, the creatives in us also would like it if we inspired onlookers to possibly look at their own space and life a little bit differently. We've personally found it to be so fulfilling to distinguish real desires and needs from the ones we've been groomed to pursue, and then work to make them a reality. We've found it energizing to witness our fellowmen and women pursuing a dream. We'd like to be a stimulating memory along any person's journey.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, and that they can appreciate some of our old-fashioned ways. That, as our paths cross, we won't be held to a business-first standard that we have worked hard to remove ourselves from. We realize everyone has a right to be themselves, but our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm.

The Neature Preserve (formerly known as "Tabby's Trees") consists of 74 acres made up mostly of pine forest situated in the coastal plain. A creek runs along the western boundary of the property with an ephemeral (seasonal) wetland to the southwest. The overstory of the forest is dominated by loblolly and slash pine with a few longleaf pine sprinkled in, as well as turkey oak, live oak, laurel oak, and sweetgum. We have ~1.5 miles of trails that wind through a variety of ecosystems (trails can hiked or biked). The property has three primitive camping sites. Two of the sites are for tent camping only (where you would park your car along the hiking trail and then follow a separate path to get to the campsite), with one site that has enough space to park multiple cars or small camper right at the campsite.
The Neature Preserve is all about restoring native habitat! Prescribed fire is used at The Preserve to safely and efficiently restore and maintain productive ecosystems and to support our native plant and animal species. - The interior of the South Loop was burned for the first time (in recent history) on February 14, 2024 and again on April 17, 2025.

- Future plans include a timber thinning to reduce canopy density, clear cutting some sections to be replanted in longleaf pine.

Whippoorwill Farms SC is a 40 acre, regenerative working farm, where our main income comes from the sale of our meat, egg and vegetable products direct to consumer at local farmers markets, through our subscription service and at local restaurants!

After moving our farm here to this land in October of 2019, we began the slow process of regenerating the land through the use of heritage animal species and permaculture. The Neature Preserve (formerly known as "Tabby's Trees") consists of 74 acres made up mostly of pine forest situated in the coastal plain. A creek runs along the western boundary of the property with an ephemeral (seasonal) wetland to the southwest. The overstory of the forest is dominated by loblolly and slash pine with a few longleaf pine sprinkled in, as well as turkey oak, live oak, laurel oak, and sweetgum. We have ~1.5 miles of trails that wind through a variety of ecosystems (trails can hiked or biked). The property has three primitive camping sites. Two of the sites are for tent camping only (where you would park your car along the hiking trail and then follow a separate path to get to the campsite), with one site that has enough space to park multiple cars or small camper right at the campsite.
The Neature Preserve is all about restoring native habitat! Prescribed fire is used at The Preserve to safely and efficiently restore and maintain productive ecosystems and to support our native plant and animal species. - The interior of the South Loop was burned for the first time (in recent history) on February 14, 2024 and again on April 17, 2025.
- The interior of the North Loop, along with the similarly sized unit just east of the North Loop, was last burned April 11, 2023

- Future plans include a timber thinning to reduce canopy density, clear cutting some sections to be replanted in longleaf pine.

Michael and Kimberly Duke bought a small cabin on the Canoochee River to enjoy as a family.

Our beautiful unique property has been in the family for 3 generations. Over the years, our family, plus artists, musicians, & writers have come here to refresh and get inspiration from nature. But with Hipcamp, we've opened up for others to enjoy.
We limit the number of guests staying here to no more than 10, but the daily average is only 4.

Though I wasn’t able to meet Catherine in person, she was always available and very personable. The property is historic, and charming, with the biggest oak trees I’ve ever seen! We were provided with a fire ring, and ample firewood, and had an enjoyable stay. The dogs loved having room to roam, with a little bit of woods to explore.

We wanted a quick, overnight getaway near home with our dogs and Will’s Flying W fit our needs perfectly. We bought fresh eggs and had a campfire. Water, electric and dumping all available. Fortunate for us—we were not in a rush to leave and the space was available through late morning to get to know Will & Mo (and their brand new puppy).
This is a great spot to stop while you are traveling through.

Totally private the night we were there while still being very close to town for a few restaurants, coffee, etc. The kids loved seeing all the chickens and pigs and the host Marissa was super friendly. With easy access to power to boot, we would definitely stay again and will recommend this hipcamp to friends in NC.

Our stay at Heirloom Hamlet was nothing short of picturesque, morning fog coming up through the trees and an incredible old oak at the center.
Our timing did not allow us to fully enjoy the property but that tiny bit we saw will definitely have us coming back.
The dog has decided that this is her new favorite place and did not want to leave.
The Small Bathhouse has some really nice touches that really showcase how much Curt and his family value hosting as well as creating a very eco-concious space that reminds us of the importance of all doing our part. One thing we do know- this may not be right for some folks and that’s ok, but definitely a place that we will visit again.

I appreciate the opportunity to camp at Montanna's HipCamp. The primary purpose of my visit was to camp and sleep in a safe place while I was participating in a lottery draw hunting trip at nearby Coosawhatchie WMA.
Montanna provided clear and accurate directions to the property prior to my arrival. He also gave me a heads up concerning the rough road conditions leading to his property.
I arrived later than I had planned but had no problems getting to gate at the property. It was dark and raining but the gated access was easily easily entered. I pulled in and drove down the fence line to the designated camp site, turned my truck around and parked on level ground. His wife came out and greeted me, gave me a quick but thorough orientation to the amenities.
I met Montanna the next evening after returning from my days hunt. He showed me "The Man Cave" and I have to say that it is indeed impressive. I won't spoil the surprise with details but it brought back many happy boyhood memories. Montanna took his passion from a boyhood hobby and turned it into a passionate, professional and lucrative adult hobby that he is proud to share with those fortunate to be invited in.
Since I was primarily there to hunt for 3 chilly and rainy days, I did not experience the other amenities available. I did see the nice duck pond, the tire swing hanging from the oak trees, the fire pit and picnic area and an extra bonus of hearing 3 Barred Owls talking during the night.

We loved our stay at Whippoorwill Farms! We were only there one night, but definitely would have stayed longer should our schedule have allowed it. We have a three year old and she was in heaven exploring the farm, specifically hanging out with the horses. There was another camper in a spot nearby, but I still felt like we had privacy and more than enough room for our rig/car. Highly recommend!
