Michael and Kimberly Duke bought a small cabin on the Canoochee River to enjoy as a family.
They decided to list it on a vacation rental site.
As this property was in full demand, another property became available to buy.
As interest began to increase, the family decided open up the options for their visitors.
At this current date, they have four cabins and a yurt, as well as, tent sites. We are excited about the yurt that was completed in August 2019. They are looking forward having another cabin in the near future.

Hi, I'm Curt. My wife Ani, son Fitch, and I are average, everyday nonconformists who have been running an experiment.
We'd noticed as we evolved that we felt generally unfulfilled by the direction society had gone. That our biology and our brain's wiring just didn't naturally mesh when forced to blend with the masses. We had come to learn that we are far from alone, and that made us feel a little less weird.
Still, we thought the answer called for more, maybe even drastic action if we could muster the courage. We were thinking a full retreat and redesign, but had very little resources.
Can a family use their own minds and hands, with some grit, to handcraft a home and life that felt right? That they didn't even want to vacation from? I don't know, but we decided to try. We still are. Have we done it? You be the judge.
In 2019 right before the pandemic, we left our Miami handcrafted furniture business to pursue this new goal. A project in practicality and passion. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living and find a harmony between the helpful aspects of the modern world and the good parts of the old, that maybe society should have held tight to. We wanted to play with this idea...all while keeping it classy ;-)
At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us designing unique, functional cottages, using solar energy, composting organics, sewing and reaping, in a way that is fair to our environment. We're bread baking, pasta making, timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. The goal is to evolve into a small world of self-reliance and harmony with nature.
Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" slow, simple living can feel. We all have personal priorities, and those will vary greatly. But within that, we can all include ways of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our neighbors.
Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, that they can appreciate our perspectives and some of our old-fashioned ways. Our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a refreshing hideaway from the norm.

Welcome to **Laurel & Lore**, a peaceful nature retreat tucked away on 1.6 acres beneath mature oaks in Georgia's Lowcountry. Your accommodations are located toward the back of the property, creating a sense of privacy while still offering convenient access to everything the region has to offer. Mermaid Cove is a fully enclosed, Florida-style tropical getaway in a quiet neighborhood in historical Old Savannah, Georgia. The yard is approximately 884 square feet.
A tropical adventure awaits in this unique themed experience—why stay somewhere boring? Our renovated 1960s-era travel trailers are fully furnished, making them an excellent retreat for a single traveler or a couple.
The location is within a 2 to 3-minute walk of several restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. These include Aldi (2 min), Whole Foods (3 min), IHOP (2 min), Dave’s Hot Chicken (2 min), Target (5 min), Cava (3 min), Chase Bank (2 min), and Bank of America (6 min). Daffin Park, home of the popular Savannah Bananas baseball team, and other attractions are within a 4-minute walk.
We are also located near the seaside, only a 12-minute drive to Tybee Island, our local beach, and an 8-minute drive (or 12-minute bike ride) to the heart of Savannah's Historic District. The area is very bike-friendly. Thunderbolt, Georgia—Savannah's shrimp boat haven—is just a short hop away, including the Intra-coastal Waterway, which is approximately 13 minutes via bicycle.
Amenities include a microwave, small refrigerator, external full toilet, interior standard toilet, coffee maker, hot shower, WiFi, and AC. The external toilet and shower rooms are heated during colder days. Two bicycles are also available for rental on-site.
Our space is designed for solo travelers and to accommodate those who may have allergies; therefore, we do not allow pets. It is very comfortable for singles and couples, but please note there is not enough space to accommodate families.

We had a wonderful stay at this rustic cabin this weekend! It was the perfect little getaway for our family. The cabin was cozy, clean, and had everything we needed. We especially enjoyed being able to fish and relax right there at the property.
The peaceful setting was exactly what we were looking for, and it was great having the convenience of running water, AC, and a nearby bathhouse while still getting that fun camping/cabin experience. We had a great time and would definitely come back again! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing, family-friendly getaway!

10/10! The yurt was well stocked, comfortable, and the whole place has such a great vibe. It’s situated right on the river with a very natural, untouched feel. There isn’t direct river access from the property, but there are kayaks and a secluded little beach just steps away. If you need a weekend to relax and reconnect, this is your place. Spent 2 nights on Curt + Ani’s property. It was such a treat! Absolutely will be returning for more solo, me-time. It’s the perfect blend of lowkey glamping (stayed in the unit with ac) + outdoor living.
Everything about the unit was intentional, from the name, design, craftsmanship, to the books on the shelves. You can see the effort and love poured into this place.
I went to a show in Folley Beach Saturday night and arrived back to the property around 2:30-3am. Felt completely safe/ease, sat outside in the screened in lanai looking at the stars and listening to instrumentals (very quietly) until almost sunrise.
When I return I will have zero plans, park my car, and escape reality the entire time.

My daughter and I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and had a great experience. The camper was clean, comfortable, and well kept. Everything we needed worked properly, including the restroom, shower, and sink, which made the stay really convenient. We spent this past weekend at Heirloom Hamlet celebrating my wife birthday, and it ended up being one of those stays you don’t forget.
Curt and Ani have created something truly special here. The cottage is entirely custom-built, and you can feel the time, care, and intention that went into every detail. It’s not just a place to stay, it reflects a year of hands-on work and passion, and it shows in the craftsmanship and overall feel.
One of the most thoughtful touches was walking into the cottage and finding a birthday cake waiting for my wife. We didn’t expect it at all, and it says a lot about the kind of hosts they are.
The property itself feels like a quiet little bird sanctuary. Free-range chickens wandering around, constant songbirds in the background, it honestly felt like a bird haven tucked into the coastal pines and oaks. There’s also a massive 200+ year old live oak right in the center of the property that really stands out. It has a presence to it and ended up being one of our favorite parts of the whole place.
The design of the cottage strikes a great balance, custom and modern, but still warm and grounded in the setting. Nothing feels generic.
If you’re looking for something unique, peaceful, and built with real intention behind it, this place delivers. We’ll definitely be back!

I think the yurt was absolutely great for a glamping trip. It had all the amenities you could want and even extra. I will say that it was a little difficult to get to but Kim's instructions work extremely helpful. I do suggest that you use a truck or a Jeep not that a car can't get down there but it's just easier. I think it would be really even much better once some of the debris from all the flooding and hurricanes is taking care of so that you can enjoy kayaking down the river unblocked but there is much woods to explore and it's perfect getaway to be with nature.

Camp management is outstanding! Truly cares about each guest and customer service is best I’ve seen in decades. Been there twice, love the area, both camper and cabin were exquisite in comfort and inspiring relaxation. Stress just melts away within minutes of arriving. I reserved an overnight cabin and had a great time! The view was incredibly beautiful and the lake was steps from the room -76)built into the dock. I was able to get in a kayak and fully immersed myself in the beauty of the lake. They were kind enough to help me in/out of the yak. The cabin and bathrooms were clean. I made a fire and a cute kitten came to visit. I am an adventurous, single female, and I felt very safe. I overslept and the host was kind enough not to make a big deal of it. I highly recommend and would revisit!

Very laid back and quiet, beautiful lake to fish in cabin was clean and what I was expecting for a “fish camp” bathroom and shower house were clean. I will be back most definitely, reminded me of when I was a kid fishing and camping on the lake.
