Surrounded by Nature and Adventure The Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail runs along the back of the property, this bike, walking, and horse trail was formerly a railroad and now connects Downtown Gainesville to Hawthorne. Enjoy the historic Lochloosa Creek, with the old train bridge still in use for the trail. Loaner bikes are available for guests to explore the trail. The camp site it's about an hour's bike ride to Gainesville or a 15-minute drive by car. Hawthorne is just six minutes away. Farm Life and Pet-Friendly Atmosphere This is an active Florida Department of Agriculture hemp farm and Homestead. Animals on-site: Outside the fenced camp area, you'll find pet cows and donkeys—all friendly and never raised for food. Feel free to feed and pet them without crossing the fence! Ducks and chickens may wander near the camping area. If you're towing horses, they are welcome to graze within the camping area. If multiple guests have horses, we’ll guide you to a larger pasture. Pets are welcome! Just keep them leashed near the other farm animals. Campfire and Late-Night Access Campfires are permitted—enjoy a cozy evening under the stars! 🔥 The gates remain locked and you'll have access to the lock code. Shared the site with deer frolicking and birds singing each day. Excellent communication with host before arrival. Host is available on site, if necessary, Greeted with six-pack of beer from First Magnitude Brewing Company. Host also offered electric scooters for transportation. Stayed at Downtown Nature Retreat twice in the past month....and would say again whenever in Gainesville! Highly recommend! Check out Paynes Prairie Preserve. We can’t say enough about this beautiful property on 7 acres. You feel enclosed in the woods with lots of privacy. Grounds were perfect. A little tricky backing in, but just take your time and you can manage it. It is priced under market. Making it affordable for most families and a great value. I hope Kate, the owner never sells this gem. It is a property of a lifetime. Springs are bubbling up all around the property. It is located at the end of one of the river’s many private tributaries offering tons of privacy with little boat traffic, I will never forget the experience at this camping site. I would love going back someday and staying longer. Just a note; there is no dock to tie a boat up. So you have to figure out another way to use your boat if you have one. There are public ramps within 5 miles. Swimming and kayaking is available on site.

Such a tranquil and well kept site. The team that meet you on arrival are super friendly. The sites are easy to navigate. The best part for us with kids, was the fire pit on the river, which they load with wood daily plus the social house, when the weather turns bad or the bugs come out we could go in and play pool, darts, games or watch football. Cannot say enough good things about this place!!

Absolutely incredible stay! The Treehouse Cabin Retreat exceeded every expectation the perfect mix of comfort and nature. The cabin and treehouse are spotless, cozy, and thoughtfully stocked with everything you might need, from kitchen essentials to comfy bedding. The property is peaceful, surrounded by towering trees and the soothing sounds of nature. We loved the outdoor shower under the stars, the firepit for s’mores, and the hammocks for lazy afternoons. It’s close to the Suwannee River and crystal-clear springs, which made day trips for swimming and kayaking so easy. The host was responsive, kind, and made everything simple from start to finish. The spot is perfect. Lots of room and easy to back into. I have a 42' 5th wheel and no problem. The hosts are super nice and everything is easy to hookup. It is also a quiet neighborhood and friendly neighbors. Nice place to walk around in the evenings. Bugs are bad cause by the river, but hey it's Florida so that's like everywhere. Also less than 10 mins from an awesome bike and hiking trail, Nature Coast Trail, which will take to neighboring towns and several springs to gk check out. I will stay again if we come back to the area

Just 10 minutes from Crystal River, enjoy the abundant hiking, swimming, kayaking, bicycling, and horseback riding the area has to offer.  This is a working farm so expect to see horses, chickens, pigs, and our farm dog during your stay. Be sure to bring your farm shoes!  Your Hosts live onsite and are flexible to hang out and suggest activities if requested, but also happy to just show you around and then leave you to enjoy your stay in solitude.  Note that we offer three total Hipcamp sites, so you may see other travelers in common areas or in passing on the property during your stay.  About the listing We welcome self-contained travelers in camper vans, trucks, trailers, and RVs up to 35 feet in length.  Potable water is available. We don’t have a kitchen but you are welcome to cook on the grill over the firepit. You can also spread out during meals on the provided picnic table.  Enjoy the hot outdoor shower during your stay. If you’ve never showered under the stars, this is your chance! Campfires are allowed, and some wood is provided during your stay to get you started. Please fully extinguish fires after use, and always follow county restrictions if there is a fire ban due to dry weather. Additional details to note - No WiFi is provided, but we do have good cell service onsite. - Pets are allowed, as long as they won’t mind being around our animals.  - Feel free to dispose of your compost, recycling, and trash in the provided bins.

All wood ash and charcoal is used in our biochar making process to help transform the soil for our agroforestry project. We are in a prime location for campers interested in springs adventures, with many springs within 20-35 mins and many more within 60 minutes' drive, and only 35 to Gainesville. We host dog boarding with Rover app, which means your pet is welcome when booked on the app at a special discounted rate to Hip Campers. Need to leave but can't take your pet? We can give walks and meals as well as crate or kennel them until your return to camp. Please read the RULES carefully. Our gate is lighted with 24/7 camera surveillance watching the street, gate, and our house/shed. We only rent to one group at a time with a preference to small groups. We are busy with culinary and sustainable side projects for the community. This is a working agricultural site and not the place for small children to be wandering around discovering the world. Respect for the ecology is paramount as you may be camping next to restoration projects where we endeavor to encourage edible flora to grow. *We also have a ban on alcohol.
