Camp Shiloh

1 site · RV, Tent1 acre · Oak Hill, FL
Shiloh was the name of an early Florida town that was once located just down the road from our property. It was populated by hardy, adventurous folks who made a way for themselves and their families by clearing a spot along the river, building a home and forging a life in a new location. But Shiloh is now lost, literally removed from the maps. It no longer exists. When NASA needed a perimeter zone for the newly emerging space program in the 1950s, the federal government purchased large swaths of land between Oak Hill and Titusville, FL. Residents were bought out and forced to move. Houses were relocated or demolished. Shiloh disappeared into history while the space age pushed forward into the future.However... some foundations still can be found in the woods not far away, if you know where to look. There are even cemeteries that remain, whispering the names of individuals and families. As a tribute to those early adventurers, we have named our place Camp Shiloh. We honor the past, we respect the wild Florida that surrounds us, and we celebrate the future as we watch rocket launches from our porch. You are welcome to stay on the property while you explore the local communities of New Smyrna and Titusville, relax at beautiful Canaveral National Seashore, attend races in Daytona, visit amusement parks in Orlando... or whatever! It’s up to you. We are a peaceful, safe location from which you can stage your Florida adventure. Come on by. We look forward to hosting you!Learn more about this land:(Not a commercial campground.) Park your van or small RV, or pitch your tent on our rural homestead conveniently located 1000 ft off of US Hwy 1. Nearest I-95 exit/3 miles away. We have a nice level, grassy campsite, complete with a fire ring, picnic table, and firewood. Nothing fancy, but we are clean, secure, private and gated. Rustic & Simple

1 site · RV, Tent1 acre · Cocoa, FL
As the name implies, this campsite is rustic and simple! No utilities (gas, water, electric, etc.) are available, it is totally off grid!! It is great for remote boondocking, ideal for primitive tent camping, and can accommodate self contained, small camper trailers, van or truck campers and class B or small class C RV's (24ft or less). The campsite property is located west of a canal that separates it from a locally well known, middle class, rural subdivision of one or more acre lots, with the nearest home within walking distance from campsite (approx. 0.25 mile). The campsite is accessed via county maintained dirt roads, with the campsite itself being situated directly down and off a private dirt road, which is NOT maintained by the county. The campsite property is one acre in size, rectangular in shape and the property lines are somewhat naturally visible and/or purposefully marked. The only drive in entrance onto the campsite property is on the east side of the property, and it is secured by a six foot tall chain link fence, with two twenty-one foot long, rolling chain link gates - which are closed and locked together when the property is unoccupied, and can be opened/closed and unlocked/locked at the discretion of the occupying campsite guests. The undeveloped, privately owned land connected to and surrounding the campsite (roughly 18+ acres) provides a wild, unkept, overgrown and naturally thick layer of indigenous and invasive trees and plants. And of course, within this surrounding acreage, there are literally thousands of Florida palmetto bushes, which provide winding climbs for the snakes, hidden sleeping safety for all wild four legged things, and of course, a natural barrier for your privacy. Excluding the occasional days of a few explorers and curious passersby, the private dirt road (aka; quasi private dirt road) remains fairly unused and quiet during the day/night. Also, there are horses being kept just a little further south down this private road. These horses are owned and taken care of by other property owners that live off site, but nearby. You might see the owner/s driving down this private road, delivering hay, trailering or riding their horses back and forth. Please be respectful of other property owners and their property - admire from a distance, but please, do not trespass and leave the horses alone. On the campsite property there is a newly dug pond (2022), which is still in the long process of settling and clearing from bank erosion. However, the pond is active and currently stocked with Tilapia, Brim and a couple of Florida Soft-Shell Turtles. Feel free to do all the pole fishing you'd like (absolutely no cast nets), and eat what you catch! However, please return/release anything you're not willing to eat, or anything not big enough for the pan/grill if hooked. Do NOT eat the Turtles - release them back into the pond. After cleaning fish, and to keep wildlife a bay, all fish waste/remains can be thrown back into the pond (away from the pond banks), for the turtles and other weird, aquatic Florida creatures, to eat. Be aware, no Alligator/s have been spotted in this pond, YET! However, always be mindful of the absolute and real probability of an alligator in any body of water, in Florida (be it; fresh, brackish, and yes, even salt waters). There are ants, spiders, mosquitoes, horse flies, ticks, fleas, no-see-ums and other types of biting insects, big and small - these insects are not always a problem, but it's Florida, so come prepared and hope for the best. Rarely, domesticated animals wander onto the property (i.e.; stray dogs, cats, cattle and pythons), Be Cautious! Although, almost all of the time, the animals that appear on the property, are wild. Be aware; these wild animals can be unpredictable and dangerous and have the potential to harm you and/or your pets (a rabid animal, wild or domesticated is a dangerous possibility), so admire from a distance, but leave them be! ** DO NOT APPROACH, FEED NOR FOLLOW WILD ANIMALS! ** You can bring your own firewood, but feel free to use any fallen dead wood found on the campsite property. Also, at the time of this writing, there is a large stack of 'Old Logs of Wood' (+-1 ft in length), that you are more than welcome to use (watch out for snakes, spiders, etc., in these wood piles). Use all of this wood you need to maintain a nice, simple and small campfire (please be mindful of local burn bans). Come and stay and visit Central Florida's restaurants, beaches and amusement parks. Come for a special downtown Cocoa event or to watch a rocket launch from the Indian or Banana rivers, courtesy of NASA, SpaceX, Blue Origin and others (day and night launches). You are welcome to stay for a day or two, or more! Again, this property is Rustic and Simple. There are absolutely NO utilities available (no water, no toilets, no electric, etc.). There is however, a cell tower very close by that has worked very well with owners internet hot spot. This campsite is simply, a place to get off the road and rest/recoup for a night. A place to enjoy nature, or contemplate life without having to go very deep into the woods. A place to base camp while using the tow vehicle, etc., to explore the many things to do and see within a short drive in every direction of the area. This camp is as unpolished and rough or as usefully beautiful and relaxingly memorable as you make it.

Roots ReTREEt in Old Florida

3 sites · RVs5 acres · Edgewater, FL
The Roots ReTREEt is situated on 4.5 acres tucked away in Old Florida of Volusia County. The name comes from the roots that stretch throughout the property with the TREEs providing a sanctuary for all who come to rest. Our little piece of paradise has so much serenity with a fully wooded landscape while its only miles from fun things to do: surfing, biking, hiking, boating, fishing, paddling, swimming and more! If you're lucky enough to experience the wildlife that shows up regularly, you could have the pleasure of seeing wild animals like: turkeys, deer, pigs, armadillos, hawks, dragonflies, butterflies, turtles and many others. We're proud of our oasis and thrilled to share it with folks that appreciate protected land as much as we do. The land is part of the resource corridor, which is protected wetlands and it is environmentally sensitive and ecologically significant. This means that it is an ecosystem that supports the wildlife and cannot be touched or manipulated in any way. Lucy's place is our community space for you and your family's use. It has lots of seating, plenty of places to relax, a grill and outdoor sink for cooking, and a gas fireplace to enjoy the scenery at night. A hot tub awaits you, which is open to the stars and great after a day of lounging or fun out and about. We'd be honored to share what we consider to be heaven on earth with you. :-)
