The best camping near Oleta River State Park guide

Overview

About

Welcome to Florida's largest urban park. It's where the Oleta River drains into Biscayne Bay's calm waters in North Miami. Calm waters and mangrove trails provide plenty of leisure activities in this undeveloped part of South Florida.

Bring a paddleboard, kayak, or canoe to explore the inlets and outlets of the river and bay. Bike along the trails at any time of year. Off-road bicycle trails host world-class triathlon competitions. Find shade in the towering mangroves.

The swimming from the unspoiled beaches is excellent. Make sure to bring a picnic basket for a romantic lunch or fun family time. Cast your line out to try to catch the Big One. You may not even notice the big city is mere minutes away.

Campground options vary. Rustic, air-conditioned cabins provide shelter for when it rains in the afternoon. A youth campground offers the perfect outing for scout groups and summer camps.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Oleta River State Park is during the cooler months from November to April, when the Florida heat is more forgiving and the wildlife is abundant. Summer months can be hot and humid, with a higher chance of rain, which may affect some park activities.

Know before you go

  • Accessibility is a priority, so visitors with special needs can look forward to a comfortable visit.
