Boulder Tintype Ranch

8 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents2 acres · Valmont, CO
Welcome to our charming 2-acre farm nestled in East Boulder with a view of Long’s Peak. Just minutes from town - near walking trails, a bike park, shopping, and restaurants. A great pitstop on your way to or from the mountains. We have a 4 meter Glamping tent complete with a queen sized bed and rocking chairs, as well as spots in the meadow for RVs and camping tents. We limit the meadow to 5 small groups so there always remains plenty of open space for everyone. Our goal is to offer you a peaceful and affordable place to rest. The most affordable in all of Boulder! We have a community fire ring, big stacks of free burn wood and kitchen tables. We have well water to offer up by the house, but I wouldn’t drink it without purification… makes for a great cold outdoor shower. We have a HoneyBucket (toilet) tucked away in the bushes. It is pumped weekly and cleaned daily. We have fresh eggs! The chickens free range during the day, so please keep an eye on your dogs… leash if necessary. Our gals won’t run away. THE GOOD: *Easy in and out location *Most affordable rates in all of Boulder. *Beautiful view of the Longs Peak. *Lots of sun *Summertime creek on the property. *Fresh eggs!!! *Tintypes! *Community campfire with free firewood THE BAD: *Daytime road noise (pretend ocean waves??). *Limited shade. *Total RV length 40 feet - Truck AND Trailer - due to a steep and winding entrance and exit. *Good Morning Rooster We can handle RVs around 40 feet in TOTAL LENGTH - truck and trailer. It’s a big field, but a narrow, winding and steep ramp to get in and out. If you are a nervous driver, perhaps choose another place to rest your head. If you are a confident driver with towing experience, you can probably even go bigger. No designated spots. Please feel free to park anywhere you’d like while leaving enough room for other campers. It is flattest along the fence by the pond - leveling boards are stacked up in the field to borrow. Please note there is no access to the pond itself. It’s our neighbor’s property. We've got Tintype Portraits! I am a Wet Plate Photographer specializing in 1800’s antique metal portraits made of silver. Half off a one night stay is included in the price of every portrait. Check out: TheTintypeCompany.com if you get the chance. We are indeed the cheapest Hipcamp in Boulder, and our goal is to remain as affordable as we possible can. Alternatively, there is a $22 place up near Loveland, a $36 farm in Longmont, and a van-only spot in Evergreen for $33… The local homeless shelter is also an option if you are car camping. No joke, it is wonderful. More like an hostel than a homeless shelter. And they have facilities!! Folks do it all the time if the shelter has the space that night. Showers, WiFi, even food. Their contact info is: 4869 N Broadway Boulder, CO 80304 bouldershelter.org +1 (303) 442-4646 If you are in a van and just looking for a place to park for a night, 33rd north of Arapahoe is your best bet. It’s right next to the Police station, so fairly safe. The streets aren’t level, but neither is our field! Great for vans, not so great for larger RVs or trailers. All that said, we would love to be your host. Our place is clean, safe, and quiet at night. It’s super convenient to town. Please reach out with any questions you may have. I’ll do my level best to help in any way I can. Safe travels! Sincerely, Patrick

Our family-owned noncommercial ranch/campground is nestled against the Raspberry Butte hillside and near the Front Range Mountains on the West side of Highway I-25. It is 51 acres of rolling hills, Ponderosa Pine, and Douglas Fir Trees. Our property extends halfway up Raspberry Butte therefore there are lots of large rocks on our property. It is a working ranch with several horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, ducks, and dogs. Due to the fire risks in our area there are NO CAMPFIRES ALLOWED which includes propane fires. On our property you will see an enclosure with Nigerian Dwarf goats, chickens, ducks, and two donkeys. You can enter the enclosure BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Our eight-stall barn is where we feed our horses and raise our baby goats, chicks, and foals. We offer our hip campers an opportunity to learn how to care for our animals; horseback rides in a round pen; and a dump station. Just sign up at the time you book your stay under EXTRAS. Thirty acres of our property are fenced for the horses and located directly behind the campsites. In addition, we have lots of wildlife including but not limited to: Deer, Elk, Coyotes, Bobcats, Wild Turkeys, Mountain Lions, Snakes, and Bears. We are approximately 2 miles from the town of Larkspur between Spruce Mountain Road and Perry Park Road. (Please note Google Maps will try and send you to a location on Perry Park Road which is incorrect. Please refer to the map located on this website.) Due to our remote location, we have spotty Wifi. Typically ATT, Starlink, and TMobile work best. Verizon reception can be located at certain spots around our ranch. There are three restaurants located in the town of Larkspur including pizza, Mexican food, and a pub. There is also a large park with lots of kids' play equipment. During the summer there are concerts at the park on the weekends. We are approximately 2 miles from the Colorado Renaissance Festival located in Larkspur. The Renaissance Festival typically runs between June and July. We are 10 miles from the town of Palmer Lake which has fishing, kayaking, and several restaurants. Spruce Mountain hiking trails are 2-3 miles away. We are approximately 40 miles north of Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, and Manitou Springs. We are approximately 40 miles south of Denver and all of its attractions. Campers will be required to sign a Waiver and Release of Liability when camping with us. Camping near Castle Rock guide

Overview

Between Denver and Colorado Springs, Castle Rock is a popular destination for both shoppers and outdoor lovers. Named for a large, castle-shaped outcropping perched above the historic downtown, the town might be known for its outlet shops and golf courses, but Castle Rock also has an array of of parks, open spaces, and hiking and mountain biking trails within town limits, plus easy access to Castlewood Canyon State Park. Outside of town, you can find plenty of camping options in Pike National Forest.

Where to go

Denver Region

Located just 30 miles north, Denver offers urban and outdoor adventures. Several RV parks can be found near the city outskirts. Cherry Creek State Park, Chatfield State Park, and Bear Creek Lake Park just outside Denver all offer a lake and developed campgrounds. To the north of the city, Golden Gate Canyon State Park offers campgrounds, cabins, and yurts, while St. Vrain State Park offers great fishing and camping near several ponds.

Colorado Springs Area

Head south for Colorado’s second biggest city, with plenty of amenities, RV parks, and easy access to the outdoors. Hike, bike, or drive to the summit of Pikes Peak, one of the most visited mountains in the region. Explore the towering red sandstone formations of Garden of the Gods. Soak up and drink the mineral waters of Manitou Springs or head to the “City Above the Clouds” of Woodland Springs. Play and camp with your tent or RV at nearby Mueller State Park or stay at a private campground or RV park.

Forests and Mountains

Just west of Castle Rock, Pike National Forest offers a vast wilderness for outdoor recreation and camping. The Lost Creek Wilderness is a hidden gem for hikers, climbers, and anglers. Further north, the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests offer more than a million acres to explore and numerous camping options. Hop on the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway to enjoy vast vistas and camp in the Indian Peaks wilderness along the way.

When to go

Visit between May and September to go hiking, biking, climbing, and camping. Some higher elevation campgrounds in national forests are only open seasonally over the summer. The popular Castle Rock WineFest is held in July while the Colorado Artfest is held in September. Expect peak fall colors around late September and early October. The annual lighting of a star above Castle Rock takes place in November.

Know before you go

  • Castle Rock is situated at over 6,000 feet. Other recreation areas and campsites in the region are at even higher elevations, where altitude can be an issue.
  • Be bear aware, especially when camping. Store food and other attractants in a bear proof container, away from your tent.
  • Fishing licenses are required for anyone over age 16 in Colorado
  • Permits are required for state and national wilderness areas.
