Growing up in Southern Colorado I was fortunate to explore this zone as a kid and I feel fortunate that I can share Mono Loco Flats with others. Set up camp and enjoy sweeping views of Mount Blanca and the surrounding Sangre De Cristo mountain range. This 15 acre camp is situated just off highway 160 for easy access, approximately 25 minutes from The Great Sand Dunes Natianal park and Zapata Falls. Mono Loco Flats is an excellent home base for exploring the San Luis Valley. Sangre de Cristo Creek is a short hike or drive to the south. Fort Garland is a 10-minute drive. All three sites provide 360 panoramic views with epic sunrise and sunset views of Mount Blanca. Wild horses and prong horned antelope may wander the Mesa as you enjoy your camp. The natural beauty of these three campsites is worth protecting so please if you pack it in, pack it out. This is a dry camp with no toilet or garbage facilities. Please treat this land with respect so that future campers may enjoy the land free of rubbish. All three campsites are accessible with any type of vehicle, and the long driveway and turnaround can accommodate any trailer or RV up to 20'. It extends from the Continental Divide on the northwest rim into New Mexico on the south. This campground sits close to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. I encourage binoculars or even a telescope to view wildlife and check out the Rockies and then the night sky views! Looking to submerse yourself in nature? The Sangre de Cristo Range in Colorado contains the following 14ers: Blanca Peak, Challenger Point, Crestone Needle, Crestone Peak, Culebra Peak, Ellingwood Point, Humboldt Peak, Kit Carson Peak, Mount Lindsey, and Little Bear Peak. Great Sand Dunes are visible from every site. With unlimited mountain views, beautiful starry night skies, come see the Milky Way, Eclipse, even Meteor showers!!! History: this land was originally part of a large cattle ranch in the 1980s. The main ranch is still up and running but this parcel was used for many purposes over the years. In 2021, we were featured in USA Todays Ten Best for star gazing! My property has 360 degree mountains views with the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range as our back yard. Nearby you can find many different trail systems for all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. From hiking to jeeping, ATV or dirt biking and equestrians - you can find it all! You will be surrounded by BLM land, BACA land, and Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. Be sure to bring extra bug spray and protection needed against biting insects such as flies, gnats, and mosquitoes. For those bringing your pets, they MUST be on a leash/lead at all times. While I do not have much cactus on my property, I do have an abundance of greasewood (Chico brush) which is very thorn-like if stepped on. Accommodations for those with livestock or horses, just make sure you chat in advance your initial message. Close to BLM, and National Forest as well as 3 hot springs within 20 miles and the Great Sand Dunes. We are still under construction and making changes often so bear with us while we continue to add and change things for the better!

We have four entrances marked by sail flags into the campground, two by the lake, one near the bathhouse, and one by the post office (on our property). The map of the Arkansas River has our campground listed! Adventure awaits with home to the highest mountain peaks in Colorado and the river and 102 miles of Trout Gold Medal Water. There is access to white water rafting, guided fishing, and fishing lessons. There are at least 5 hot springs within 60 miles of Twin Bridges Campground. Salida is considered the white-water rafting capitol of the US by some and has a whitewater park and surfing wave. Salida area is also home to a ton of hiking (14'ers anyone?) and mountain biking trails. The Royal Gorge is a quick 30 minute drive with restaurants and other fun near Canon City. The Sand Dunes are 90 minutes and Monarch Ski Area is 45, we have some of the best bird watching! Warbling Vireo, Western Wood-peewee, Cassin's Kingbird to name a few.

The open area consists of fine soil, lots of dry grass during the winter and and a dry creek at the edge of the property. This area is great for camping and listed activities. The nearby town has much much more to do in nature featuring fishing, camping, horseback riding and hiking. The property is on the other side of the creek. Be careful of spiky ground plants. It's a nice quiet spot off the beaten path. Dan is a great host. This isn't an RV park with full hook-ups or anything. But there's a nice view of the surrounding hills and a cattle pen with cows and some chickens. A great place to park and take a break for a night or two.

This was a convenient location to both Curchara (2 miles) and La Veta (9 miles), plus all of the hiking trails and lakes in the surrounding national forest. I'm sure we will be coming back.

Beautiful and spacious site. It is close to the highway making access easy, especially if you have a large rig (we camped with a 28’ fifth wheel and 16’ trailer and had PLENTY of space). River runs next to site. Trees and brush surrounding, making it private with great views. Close to La Veta and Cuchara. Cows might greet you from the neighboring pasture!

Great little spot to camp for a bit. Dan is a great guy and was very helpful to me when I had some issues with my rv. Dan went put of his way to be helpful and offer options for me to get my rig fixed. I will definitely return. The view is great. Spots are near the road, but it is quiet and lots of animals to keep you company and views to calm you.

The camp is easy to access with plenty of level spots to set up, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. The host is extremely kind and helpful, which makes the experience even better. We highly recommend staying here and can’t wait to come back again!

Weekend Trip to JB Recreational Ranch

Joshua’s land was just what we were looking for. Extremely peaceful and a night sky that will blow your mind. We spent two nights here in our van and fell in love with the Spanish Peaks area. Do yourself a favor and pop over to Great Sand Dunes NP, about a 1.5 hour drive and worth every minute. Lots of cool old farming artifacts on the property too. Really enjoyed our stay, thanks Joshua!

Weekend Trip to High Peaks Campground

We absolutely loved our stay at High Peaks! Site 17 was in the perfect corner with no one between our view of the mountains and site itself was big enough to fit two 4-person tents, a 6-person tent and 2 vehicles. There were a few sites nearby to us, but noise was not an issue. We were lucky enough to not have anyone in the sites next to us at first, but even when campers showed up it was very peaceful. We felt like we had our own private campsite even with it being Labor Day weekend! The porta-potties were SO clean (probably the cleanest I've been in), and the toilet paper was stocked up until our last day. We appreciated that there was firewood on-site and took advantage of not having to go anywhere. The picnic table was also nice to have, and the potable water on-site was a huge blessing. Wifi didn't work from our campsite but service was still available for calls & texts. Wind was a slight issue for us the first day, high gusts of up to 15 MPH and we had some difficulty keeping our tents down and no campfires in those conditions. It didn't effect our experience at all after it died down, but I would recommend bringing extra stakes. It also gets very hot with no tree coverage. Sunrise & sunset had the most incredible 360 views, if you're looking for a beautiful, peaceful environment - stay here!! 10/10 would recommend again.

Weekend Trip to Lone Spruce Camp

The Lone Spruce was hands-down one of the easiest Hipcamp sites we’ve ever found—great layout, spotless, and super welcoming. The host was amazing (I’m still not convinced she didn’t secretly train the wildlife to show up on cue just for our review). Night one: my wife and I are sitting down to dinner when I glance out the camper window and—casual as can be—a bear strolls by on the other side of the river. Later that evening, while enjoying a gorgeous sunset, two giant bucks wandered through the site like they were auditioning for a nature documentary. Not to be outdone, the second night a parade of turkeys marched across the river as if they were in on the whole thing. We left with full bellies, full camera rolls, and full hearts. The Lone Spruce isn’t just a campsite—it’s a front-row ticket to the wildlife channel, minus the commercials. We’ll definitely be back, and if you’re lucky, maybe the host will “release the animals” on schedule for you too. Highly recommended!

Our group enjoyed Sweetwater very much. From the beautiful location, the friendly camp hosts (and other employees), the facilities were super clean and incredibly convenient, all made for a wonderful trip.

The bigger camper is the Brown Trout site and the smaller one is the Cutthroat Trout site. Come and enjoy our peace!

This place was wonderful. The bathrooms were clean and had great water pressure! My site was right along the Arkansas River, so you could hear the water running as you slept. It is close to the road so traffic noise can be an issue. I would absolutely stay here again!!

This is my second time at Twin Bridges Campground. My husband and I loved it here the first time in 2023 so we thought we'd bring our friends this time. This place doesnt disappoint. Everybody had a great time! Patricia is a great host! Highly recommend this place!
