Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

Great spot on private land with gorgeous views! Very secluded even though you are just behind the host's house. Are kids were just old enough (3.5 and 5.5) but any younger would have a hard time staying out of the poison oak and away from the steep hills. Matt was very thoughtful with the amenities that make this spot so easy and comfortable - toilet, spigot, gas fire pit. It's a very peaceful spot bursting with nature that is soothing on both the eyes and ears. So easy to get into town and have a beach day, then come back to camp in the redwoods.

I loved my stay at fern flats! I got the most amazing sleep, the birds provided beautiful music and it was absolutely quiet at night. I would definitely return. There was construction noise in the mornings though which Matt had zero control over. Hopefully the construction noise will be gone soon. The bottom line is that this place was great!

Weekend Trip to Fern Ridge Camper

This was a great, little, rustic, camper hideaway! Felt very private and comfortable. I slept well and enjoyed both the fresh air and sounds of nature (birds, honey bees in the shrub outside). Easy to get to the beach and Aptos Village before retreating back to this charming location.

Loved our experience and will definitely return! Beautiful farm with sheep and chickens (and fresh eggs of course!) and the amenities (sinks, shower, etc.) made it so easy and relaxing.

2 nights at Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

This is the perfect spot if you want all the nature without the people. It’s very private and there’s a small trail to follow in case you want to explore. It’s big enough for two people in one tent to camp comfortably. Otherwise, you could maybe fit one more person. The host is incredibly friendly and helpful.

Loved this campsite, super easy to get to and in a lovely location, we stopped on a passing visit but would have happily stayed for a few more days. Great facilities, would highly recommend.

We loved being at the top of the mountain, and the views of the valley were incredible. Site #1 had the most amazing view. No view from Site #2 but it was a very private camp site in the woods. We saw lots of birds. We appreciated the water spigot, the trash can and picnic table to make camping a bit easier. We drove the dirt roads from both sides to access the camping and the driving is very rough, not impassible, just slow going for our Subaru.

I loved the spot. The directions are so spot on! The road is bumpy but worth it. Just take it slow and enjoy because it’s gorgeous! The spot is spacious and well maintained. We found the bathroom to be clean and easy to navigate. You can hear folks from other spots but not see them. It is absolutely beautiful. Definitely bring bug spray!

We had a great stay! Our campsite was spacious enough for two tents for our family of five—with room to spare. It’s conveniently located near the restrooms and sink area, but still far enough away to feel private and peaceful. Zak was amazing—super attentive and on top of everything. Our kids especially loved visiting the horses and feeding the fish and turtle. We would absolutely come back again. Highly recommend!

Well stocked shared outdoor kitchen and sheltered eating area, showers, fire pit and a heavenly hot tub. We loved staying at Redwood landing! It gets very sunny during the day, so our canopy came in handy. Each morning was beautifully foggy and cool, and there was a really nice breeze in the afternoons. The redwoods are beautiful all around the site. It’s close to the beach so we took day trips there. Doug and Denise were excellent hosts. Our dog had a blast (but watch out for poison oak and ticks). Definitely recommend this wonderful private campsite!

I loved camping on Sirima’s land! The instructions to get there were super clear, and there was a charming outdoor bathroom, little kitchen with portable gas stoves and cooking utensils, and shared fire pit. The farm animals were so sweet, and the mornings brought beautiful views of mist rising over the water and nearby mountains. I strongly recommend camping here, it was such a wonderful stay!

Adventure seekers will find paradise here! Mount Madonna Park with miles of trails is 20 minutes down the road. You can dump your septic there as well! Horseback riding rentals are located near the park as well as an archery range. Demonstration forest is 15 minutes down the road, with miles of mountain biking. Spend a day at one of the beaches in Santa Cruz, Capitola, Aptos, Rio Del Mar, Davenport, Half Moon Bay, Monterey, or Carmel and return to your private oasis. Or Explore Silicon Valley from this centrally located parcel. Kim Son Meditation Center and Mount Madonna Center are approximately 15 minutes away. There are also wonderful wineries throughout the mountains here. The trip to the site will begin with a three mile drive on a private dirt road. Being on the very top of a mountain brings more seasonality than the surrounding cities. Please be prepared for any kind of extreme weather. Summer: Shade is highly recommended it can get into triple digits. *Spring/fall: Temperatures are generally mild but high winds are possible. *Winter: Typically cold and windy. *During rainy/muddy conditions 4x4/AWD is highly recommended. It is possible for it to get windy, foggy, rainy, hot and sunny, and even sometimes snowy. Please note: the nearest grocer is 30 minutes from this site. Emergency supplies are available for delivery to your campsite. Cell phone reception is good on most carriers. Pets are allowed. Enjoy your time howling at the moon, star gazing, bird watching/wildlife viewing, or relaxing with your favorite libation. Don't forget your camera! Since this is our first year renting our land we have found that August is a high wasp season time in the mountains. We are doing everything humanly possible to hunt down each and every Wasp for your enjoyment. With this in mind we ask you use the provided bug repellent, keep the lid to the trash closed, and do not pour grease anywhere you do not want wasps.

The family farm and residence were established during the late 1970s on the site of the historic Peter’s Dairy Ranch. The original farmhouse dates back to the late 19th century and survived the great 1906 earthquake. Today, the 7-acre farm is being restored to sustainably support fruit orchards, cottage flower and kitchen gardens, honey bees, a boisterous flock of chickens, and naughty shetland sheep. Our self-serve farmstand attached to our barn has seasonal flowers, organic eggs, heirloom fruit, and local goods from the farm. Our property is the perfect rustic getaway for backpackers and outdoor enthusiasts. You’ll be surrounded by farm/ranch life: chickens clucking, roosters crowing, bees buzzing, and sheep bleating. We also have active nighttime wildlife: coyotes howling, raccoons foraging, owls hooting, etc. Bring earplugs if nature sounds are too much for you. Grey Oaks is located on 20 acres of land, with hiking and mountain biking trails, a 12 foot deep in-ground swimming pool, multiple interesting and cool landscape features, hot water shower, and animals up by the house (1/4 mile from the campsites) that you can interact with during your stay here, too (8 hens, 2 pasture horses, 2 friendly dogs, and 1 awesome cat). At the campsites, we have picnic tables, fire pits, bbqs, ice chests, and more. A clean and fresh well water hand/dishwashing station, plus Alhambra Crystal Fresh drinking water, and two outhouses are conveniently located to the campsites. Eucalyptus, oak, and/or pine firewood is provided free for you during your stay with us. It really is a beautiful and wonderful property. There is wildlife, and it is private and peaceful. It is very dark at night and the view of the stars, moon, and planets is amazing. There is poison oak on the property so please be aware. We will show you what it looks like, so you can easily avoid it.

This is great option for those who like to bring all their own gear to camp, and don’t need or want all the extras, and save some money on booking rates in the process. Our new Primitive Adventures campsites are located on an established 5-star property. It’s a peaceful, secluded and private country estate. The 20 acre property starts out flat and then gentle to moderate sloped hillside with coast live oak trees, eucalyptus trees, pine trees, meadows, hiking trails and many interesting landscape features nestled between the vast farmlands North Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. We have a beautiful 45ft waterfall with a koi pond, too. Property faces a westerly direction so there are amazing sunset views depending on where you are on standing at the time on the property. We are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The weather is usually mild here and we have cool evenings. We do get days that are in the 90s sometimes in the summer and early fall, but we also have lots of shade with all the trees, and a swimming pool to cool off in as well. There is wildlife like turkeys and owls and so much more (see our listing or our website). We have horses and hens, separate from the campsites, so no flies or smell from them. Hot showers, toilets, and swimming pool included. Forage the plentiful eucalyptus and oak firewood for free, or pre-cut pine is available for purchase. Most of our weekends are fully booked at our Rustic Campsites already, so here is another chance to have yourself a weekend camping trip at our new Primitive Adventures campsites. The site offers: - A 20ft modern container home with one queen sofa bed, large screen with Apple TV, kitchen, patio, fridge, microwave, cooktop, shower, and toilet. - A custom, outdoor kitchen, and bar for entertaining with gas BBQ, fridge freezer, sink with hot and cold filtered water, Sonos sound system. - Large gas fire pit and seating area. - One A Frame eco cabin with option for one king size day bed OR two singles, A twin mattress can also fit in the cabin when in the two singles configuration. The cabin has electricity, fan and heating for colder nights. - One very cute retro airstream style 1950's trailer with a twin bed for a couple or one person. - Space for 1-2 additional tents. For groups of 8 or more and special events please contact us so we can discuss the possibilities. - Onsite you should find all the basic amenities from home including all bedding, towels, kitchenware, cooking utensils, dining ware, herbs and spices, cleaning products, gas for the BBQ and fire pit is included etc. There are a few things you should bring: Food, drinks, ice and fun! The site looks down into a private and secluded redwood and oak forest with trails for small hikes into the redwood fairy circles or all the way down to the creek. The glamping site is on a sunny flat area surrounded by steep terrain up to a ridgeline and down to the creek. The creek is accessible although the final route requires a rope down so may not be suitable for everyone. Within 15-20 min drive you will find almost all major attractions in the Santa Cruz area including The Mistery Spot, Nisene Marks State Forest, Capitola Pier, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, and many famous surf breaks from Capitola to The Point, The Hook, Steamer Lane and many more., as well as many amazing mountain bike trails. There are also several Santa Cruz Mountain wineries to explore in a 3- 5 mile radius. Further afield you will find Monterey Bay Aquarium and the coastal beaches north up to San Francisco Bay ( 1 hour 30 mins north) and down to Big Sur about 1 hour 20 mins south. We ask all our visitors to be respectful of the environment, our wildlife, and our neighbors. Please drive slowly and respect the quiet times: between 9.30 pm and 8.30 am. We check all our guests in and provide a quick tour. We can offer a number of additional amenities and services including shopping, stocking up on your favorite supplies, catering, romantic packages and special picnics on the Rainbow Ridge, and much more, so please just ask about all the possibilities.
