This open camp tent area is owned by (and was/is built by) the former HGTV host of the show "Tiny House Builders". The site also houses a "wooden tent" or micro glamping pod named "The Little Lantern" (a second listing) that is fun to check out, take pix of, store gear in- the structures serve as windbreaks and shade walls
for tent campers and you can hang out on the benches near them, use their fire pits, and so on. The owner is also the author of several design and budget-build/reuse books (the bestseller "Micro Shelters" and others). Decades back this land was the site of an old RV park, so we've been in the long process of cleaning it up and removing junk from some corners of the site- but a bit still remains (its NOT pristine- still in the works). As a result you'll find some cool, weird, and unusual detritus and salvage out here (but not so much close to the camp spots)- old car parts, industrial knobs and dials- feel free to explore. Camp at your own risk though if you wander off to check this stuff out. The immediate camping area is cleared/clean. This has made it a favorite spot for junk collectors and photographers (we've found everything from old coins, to actual silver, cool rocks/geodes, and vintage car parts). This place would also make for a great spot for video or fashion shoots (which aren't allowed unless you seek separate permission from us!). Its a dirt site, but easy to get into, easy to pull into and turn around in (even with an RV), and you basically have about 5 acres all to yourself in most cases. There is one other camp site on the property (two total- the little lantern, and the van area for tenting- they are separate and spread out).
Note: As I'm not sure of the current hip camp/country standings (new vague rules), I had removed this listing/put it on "hold", but it keeps going live/not adjusting- for that reason I'm just going to keep it live and allow people to book/stay until things are figured out by hip camp (so as not to inconvenience anyone).

Off-leash dogs are welcome. Please clean up after them so this policy can remain in place.
Guests must bring their own water, use a self-contained toilet system (pack out all waste), and pack out all trash. Desert conditions change rapidly — wind, heat, and cold are all possible. Four-wheel drive is recommended, though many standard vehicles and RVs have accessed the property by driving slowly and carefully. If a vehicle becomes stuck, guests are responsible for arranging their own towing.
This is unfenced private land bordering public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas. On rare occasions, someone may mistakenly pass through assuming the land is public. This has always been resolved easily by letting them know they are on private property.
Located at the base of Copper Mountain, the property offers wildlife sightings, panoramic views, and generally good cell service despite the remote feel.

At 10,833 feet in elevation, this is the second highest peak in California. There are two ways to get to the summit. You can hike the whole thing or shave off about 6000 vertical feet by riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Either way, the summit is not to be missed.
For a real challenge try the epic Cactus to Clouds trail. It was rated as one of the hardest day hikes in the world by Backpacking Magazine. I have a very private campsite that is off grid. There’s an outhouse with a camping toilet, a large deck to lounge and watch the sun rise or set. You can pitch a tent on the deck or on several cleared spots on the ground. JT national park is a 15 minute drive and there’s a corner mart nearby. You can use the trampoline, there’s a fire pit (bring your own firewood), and please bring your own camping chairs, water, toilet paper/wipes and you must dispose of your waste 🌞🌵🏜️

This is an intentionally off-grid, private desert retreat for guests who value space, silence, dark skies, and solitude. You are renting the entire 40-acre property — there is only one campsite, and it is exclusively yours.
There are no toilets, no water, no electricity, and no artificial lighting. This is a self-contained desert experience, not a campground.

This property is best suited for experienced campers, vanlifers, RVs, Airstreams, and tent campers who are comfortable navigating dirt roads and practicing Leave No Trace ethics. It is not suitable for first-time campers or guests seeking amenities or on-site assistance.
Off-leash dogs are welcome. Please clean up after them so this policy can remain in place.
Guests must bring their own water, use a self-contained toilet system (pack out all waste), and pack out all trash. Desert conditions change rapidly — wind, heat, and cold are all possible. Four-wheel drive is recommended, though many standard vehicles and RVs have accessed the property by driving slowly and carefully. If a vehicle becomes stuck, guests are responsible for arranging their own towing.
This is unfenced private land bordering public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas. On rare occasions, someone may mistakenly pass through assuming the land is public. This has always been resolved easily by letting them know they are on private property.
Located at the base of Copper Mountain, the property offers wildlife sightings, panoramic views, and generally good cell service despite the remote feel.
Drive times: Hwy 62 (8 min), Downtown Joshua Tree & Farmers Market (11 min), Joshua Tree National Park entrance (19 min), Indian Cove (16 min), Pioneertown (29 min).

At 10,833 feet in elevation, this is the second highest peak in California. There are two ways to get to the summit. You can hike the whole thing or shave off about 6000 vertical feet by riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Either way, the summit is not to be missed.
For a real challenge try the epic Cactus to Clouds trail. It was rated as one of the hardest day hikes in the world by Backpacking Magazine. Its 21 miles take you skyward through sub-alpine forests, mountain meadows, snow-dusted crags, and gnarled granite. An alpine start is required to avoid the midday heat so be prepared and take plenty of water.
Campers have plenty to choose from. The San Jacinto area offers two drive-in campsites, four hike-in primitive campsites, and adventures for every brand of wilderness craving. We want to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, so please take note of the following guidelines: Swimming is not permitted in the lake and there is no swimming pool available. Fishing is currently closed. Pet owners will be pleased to know that their furry friends are welcome, but there will be an additional fee added to the reservation. Wi-Fi is provided by a third-party company and a separate service fee applies. Please note that we cannot guarantee the speed, rate, or troubleshooting of the Wi-Fi service. For your convenience, a wash station for dishes is available on-site, and the Joshua Tree Laundromat is located 9 miles away in downtown Joshua Tree. For campfires, it is important to keep them contained inside the designated burn barrels and never leave them unattended. In the event of high winds, campfire, and BBQ use may be suspended for safety reasons.

I have a very private campsite that is off grid. There’s an outhouse with a camping toilet, a large deck to lounge and watch the sun rise or set. You can pitch a tent on the deck or on several cleared spots on the ground. JT national park is a 15 minute drive and there’s a corner mart nearby. You can use the trampoline, there’s a fire pit (bring your own firewood), and please bring your own camping chairs, water, toilet paper/wipes and you must dispose of your waste 🌞🌵🏜️

I was in town to meet my dad for the first time ever. Afterward, I really needed somewhere safe and quiet to land — a place where I could process everything and ground myself. I didn’t have a big budget, so finding something affordable was important. Then I found Amy’s place. It was affordable, really cute, and exactly what I needed. I kept my phone charged with a battery pack, sat in the moonlit camper, and wrote. It ended up being a really meaningful and grounding experience.

Rebecca’s land was incredible. The views were unreal, the site felt private, and there was plenty of space. We pulled in with a 30ft RV and had zero issues getting in and out. Rebecca also approved a second vehicle so we could explore without moving the RV, and she sent super detailed, thorough directions and info ahead of time. The outhouse was spotless. We brought cleaning supplies just in case and didn’t need them. Couldn’t recommend this Hipcamp more. 10/10. Thank you, Rebecca.

Perfect solitude in the desert. The spot is easy to find and is very nice and quiet. We spent a relaxing evening with a gorgeous sunset and a quiet night. There was a light cloud cover so the stars were visible but not as bright as they would have been. Would definitely consider it again.

Lovely grounds and host! I went for tent camping and Jonesy really makes this space cozy and special. The camping spot is spacious and open, with firepit and table provided, and it was great to have such well-thought out amenities just a walk away. The provided bathroom was convenient, but when a big party arrived it became very busy so having a backup bathroom plan when tent camping is recommended. Overall would definitely return, especially when the sites at Joshua Tree are all booked up!

We had a wonderful stay at Amy's place. Everything was spotless, and the directions and check-in instructions were clear and easy to follow. Amy even left us firewood, which was such a thoughtful touch since we forgot to bring our own. The night sky was absolutely unforgettable, and waking up early to watch the sunrise with a cup of coffee was the perfect way to start the day. We'd happily stay here again.
