Splitrock Farm Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Weekend Trip to Bowen Ranch Deep Creek Hot Springs

Tent was warm and bed was comfy. Would recommend bringing your own linen. Hot showers and flushable toilets were nice. Campsites have everything you need. Juniper flats does allow nudity so don’t come if you think people won’t be doing it… they will be. It was clean and well taken care of, staff was available when needed

Angel's Nest is a gem - especially at the price! It's a beautiful mountain cabin that has family entertainment in mind. We played shuffleboard all afternoon and switched it up with the arcade machine and basketball; the kids had a blast! Really lovely kitchen, bedrooms and living areas as well! Great for a family mountain getaway. Only warning is: there are lots of stairs and a very steep driveway. Keep that in mind when if that's an issue for you. Martin was also very responsive and hospitable! We will definitely be back!

Tucked away on a dirt hill, the bright orange VW bus sits shaded against a huge boulder. It opens completely in the back for a cool breeze and paints a retro picture. There are two metal chairs besides it. I was expecting a picnic table, but that was absent. Luckily, I brought a table. The wooden platform below the bus was a really nice touch. I would have loved an outdoor rug to complete the look. I would recommend bringing your own lighting (lanterns, headlamps, lights). Overall, it's a unique, van life camping spot.

Great place, peaceful, beautiful, well maintained, and clean none toxic cookware! Haha I know that’s a funny thing to be excited about but as a cook I love stainless steel and all were stainless steel, also master bed and pillows very comfortable, Tempur-Pedic I believe. Lots of stairs, so just be aware we brought our elder dog and was a little tricky for him to navigate; but other than that, host replied quickly to all questions and highly recommended!

the Glamping option had literally everything we needed, even portable solar lights that we were able to use while walking after dark. it was nice returning to a lit camp site as well. The Hot springs themselves were amazing, and right next a colder swim spot to cool off. Jess gave such clear directions for us, even though I had watched YouTube videos before, it was easy to visualize when she pointed out landmarks. We camped on a weekend and were lucky to get to enjoy the rec room tent at night.

This is a great place to camp, and so close to home! Beautiful land. Petting the free-range goats was a plus. We stayed in the VW bus, which was really comfortable with the full-size mattress. Though I imaging tent camping would be great too.

Great place to stay and so close to Lake Gregory! My family and I walked there and the scenery as we walked was amazing. We enjoyed board games at night as well as the TV. Upstairs had an amazing studio styled home with a wonderful array of vinyls to listen to! The Sky Bear Cabin was also very cozy, there was a loft where you can bask in the sun.

This home is beautiful, full of light, and well-appointed. The steep stairs and driveway are no joke, so I wouldn’t recommend it for very young children. The bunk beds and third floor game room were huge hits. The jack-and-jill bathroom connecting the main bedroom with the kids room provided both privacy and peace of mind. The main bed is also amongst the most comfortable I’ve slept on.

Our little summer tradition — three moms and all our kids camping together — felt extra special this year. It’s our last trip before our oldest boys head off to college, and we couldn’t have picked a better spot than Baby Oaks Oasis at Split Rock Farm. It’s pure magic. While setting up camp, the cutest alpaca wandered over, followed by the goats and then their sweet guardian dog. We watched a gorgeous sunset, then a pink full moon rise, spotted owls and bats, and heard coyotes in the distance. Loved the kitchen with running water, the fire pit under the big oak, and the kids sleeping in the dome. Morning views with the marine layer were stunning — don’t miss the observation deck!

The village of Green Valley Lake is sleepy and cute, especially mid-week. This cabin is a great place to go and get a reset from the noise and bustle of city life. We were expecting to see an abandoned bus that maaaaybe we would sleep in. However upon arriving we realized not only had they laid out full bedding in it but it was decorated with a cool bohemian/hippie vibe. There were even adorable twinkle lights in the interior. We stayed super warm at night and in the morning we were greeted by goats coming in from the oak grove. This is a nice quiet little area tucked uphill from the grove. We will definitely stay here again. Great time!

San Bernardino Surrounds

For a quick nature excursion near San Bernardino, check out Box Springs Mountain Reserve Park, where you can get a panoramic view of the area from a 3,000-plus-foot peak. Chino Hills State Park is another great local option with more than 90 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The campground at Chino Hills has tent sites with picnic tables and restrooms, while RV travelers can also find a variety of San Bernardino RV parks with full hookups, free wifi, dump stations, and everything else needed for travel in a big rig or camper.

San Bernardino Mountains

Much of the San Bernardino Mountains north of the city are preserved by the San Bernardino National Forest. Within this park system are 42 campgrounds, hundreds of miles of trails, and the highest peak in Southern California: the 11,499-foot San Gorgonio Mountain. The Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area and Big Bear Lake are also in this range, the latter of which sits at 6,752 feet of elevation and features a winter ski run.

Mount San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness

The Mount San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness spans 14,000 acres in the San Jacinto Mountains. With granite cliffs, Sequoia trees, and stunning views, this region feels more like the High Sierra than Southern California.
