Weekend Trip to Ascension Ranch

This is a very cool place. Our campsite was impressively spacious. The hosts were responsive and helpful through the app. The two guardian dogs are absolute angels and spent a lot of time at our site, which we loved. All the other animal life, both domestic and wild, was fun to see in this environment. The lake is a short walk and felt great for a swim! Bathroom is a little ways away from the site, but impeccably clean. Just a couple things to note. There is a very active ecosystem there, which was great to see BUT watch where you step — we encountered a wolf spider on our table and a young rattlesnake under our tent. Both manageable, but good to be aware. Also, our specific site also said it had potable water, but all we could find was a livestock water trough that wasn’t turned on. It was 110° the weekend we went (we knew what we were getting into), so if we hadn’t brought our own water we would have been in some trouble. We also chose this place partly because they advertise recreation such as archery, but were not clear that you need to bring your own targets. They do allow it on the property, but you need to bring everything yourself including targets. We brought our bows but ended up feeling a little misled by the wording of the post. Those things aside, we do hope to come back for another visit. We had a blast and appreciate our gracious hosts for sharing their ranch with us. Definitely recommend, just come prepared.

Weekend Trip to RockNWater Cove Camping

I recently stayed at this campsite and had a great experience overall. The location was excellent — peaceful, scenic, and conveniently situated. One of the highlights was definitely the river nearby, which added a relaxing and refreshing touch to the whole stay. The site itself was very well organized, from the layout of the pitches to the clean and accessible facilities. Everything felt thoughtfully maintained, which made the stay stress-free and enjoyable. That said, I did find it a bit expensive for what was offered. While the setting and organization were great, the pricing felt slightly on the higher side.

3 nights at Starry Hot Tub/Cold Plunge Glamping

Ellie and Jack set a really high bar for our first time using Hipcamp. They were incredibly responsive to any of our questions and made the experience super smooth. We were in awe of the set up in and around the tent the whole time during our trip. The tent was super cozy and comfortable, the outdoor shower was amazing, the hot tub under the stars was memorable, and I could really keep going. Lots of stuff in the area to explore and after 3 days there is only feels like we scratched the surface. Looking forward to going back sometime soon!

Loved the big beautiful scrub oaks and beautiful vista. Bring bug / mosquito spray and watch out for Fox tails for your pets. Another wonderful hipcamp experience.

2 nights at Victoria Forest

Camp was exactly as described. I loved it. Very private and I loved being able to walk to the pioneer trail to hike. The Yuba River-Emerald Pools was only a 20 minute drive. Gorgeous area. Will be back!

1 night at BALI HUTS ON PRIVATE YUBA

This hipcamp was easy to get to and yet off the beaten path and we enjoyed exploring the secluded stretch of the yuba river that was private . Staying in the Bali hut was a fun experience felt more like glamping . The workers on the land welcomed us so kindly.

Weekend Trip to Foothill Ridge

We loved camping on Ben’s farm. I thought camping on a farm might not feel like “real” camping as much as I’d like but I was wrong! There was SO much wildlife to be heard and seen. None of the animals disturbed us either. We camped over Memorial Day weekend and did not see a single Yellowjacket as mentioned in other reviews. There’re a number of beautiful swimming spots nearby. We chose Bassi Falls (we jumped in the river ahead of the falls and had the space completely to ourselves), Jenkinson Lake (closer to the waterfall there’s a big fallen tree that creates an easy swim spot), and Middle Forks Cosumnes River off the bridge on Mt Aukum Rd. Ben was very helpful in answering our questions. The shower worked great. We were very happy with our experience and immediately talked about coming back.

Weekend Trip to Ascension Ranch

The campsite was in a beautiful location with plenty of room for our 7 tents and 15 people. The lake was a short walk (10 mins) and refreshing after a hiking. There were several other camping sites nearby but it was so quiet and private. That being said, the bathroom was very far away. Too far from this campsite to walk so we ended up driving a lot. Only one of the two bathrooms was operational. Also, there was stinging nettle everywhere. We worked around but had to wear hiking shoes and socks to go anywhere on the property.

It was absolutely perfect for the 3 day weekend. Beautiful spot, perfect dock and beach access. We enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing. Beautiful evenings and plenty of space!

Weekend Trip to Wisdom eco-preserv

It's a truly special place ! We usually do a full takeover of the 4 historical cabins (Serenity, Shambala, Trinity and Geronimo) with ~ 20 friends / family. Serenity is across the pond from the 3 others - a bit more secluded. It feels that we own the forest - no neighbors besides Adam the owner - and liberty for kids to roam around and adult to relax. The main fire-pit is the hanging place, with 2 huge tables to share grilled food. And old gas grill and a smoker complete the set-up. Each room has a basic kitchen well stocked with stove + cooking and serving basics+. There's running cold water and electricity, but drink only the spring water (provided and refillable at the spring). Rooms are basic and comfortable (no curtains, brings eye masks) but they are "forest clean". There's a shower and flush toilet in the owner's house (3 min walk). It's remote, secluded and we love it for that. No cell coverage, but slow wifi by the owner's house for emergency. We like exploring the area - malakoff park, yuba river and many swim holes. I've come every year since 2020 and love it.
