Bad Rat Ranch is a 20-acre ranch with 8 acres of lush vineyards in the scenic countryside of Northern California. The ranch is set amongst rolling hills and vineyards about two hours from both San Francisco and Sacramento.
We provide two guest houses (cabins), as well as two campsites with RV hookups.

Ravens Landing burnt down in 2015 and since then, I and many friends and artists have been rebuilding using recycled lumber and various objects that survived the fires. All campers get access to our hand built cob kitchen and the epic dining hall deck. There is a communal gas fire pit and BBQ. It’s a very sunny property so please bring a canopy for shade if you want it over your campsite, remember to bring stakes, it can be windy here.
*Water is gold here so make every drop count, arrive with water conservation in mind. And please bring your own drinking water=)
*We are off-grid with no amenities from the city so please be mindful of how much trash you’ll leave behind. If drinking alcoholic beverages we ask that campers take their empties. Ask for a bag if you need it.
*We ask campers to arrive between 1pm at 9pm. If possible a general ETA helps as well.
*Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Our animals roam freely. *
It’s always a journey finding magical places so just a sweet heads up, our mountain dirt road is a bit bumpy. Cars make it up all the time, stay at a steady speed=)

We invite you to experience the beautiful wilderness of upper Calistoga. Our land is true wilderness, with some development of trails and amenities, at our Calistoga ranch just 10 minutes outside of town.
Our ranch has been newly renamed after my new son Dylan, born where I live out of state, who will inherit this family land of 100+ years. Dylan's Ranch is our newest project over the last 3 years, creating the campsites after we created the trails for our wedding in summer 2022.

There was a little mixup with the booking program. But the people at the ranch called me and switched me to campsite six. I was able to make it work and still get in a quick out and back weekend. I enjoyed the location and had been there many times as a kid. It was nice to go back with daughter and show her the lake. We were unable to book one of the trail rides, but that’s definitely on the list for next time.

Beautiful location with incredible views across the valleys and neat, flat tent sites. Also right on the lake loop trail, so ideal for hiking and trail running from. The bar in the ranch is a super cute place to end the day too, short walk along the trail.

Lovely spot for a group. The view is gorgeous (arguably the best at the sites, plenty of space with a nice fire pit. The hosts leave a very instructive email. The reservoire is beautiful for a dip just down the hill! Lots of nice vineyards on the way

The host was very responsive. I got a few texts in the morning for instructions, and we had booked the previous night, as we were not sure of our plans. We were told to go directly to the campsite, our directions were to the Ranch which was closed when we arrived. But with some driving and looking at the map (there was not much cell service), we figured out where to go. Definitely arrive before dark. This was an amazing site - overlooking the lake. It was quiet. The view was top-notch! Had a nice dinner as the sun set over the mountains.

Layna is hospitable and gracious - very welcoming. We did not use the kitchen. The sitting area for stargazing was great. The road up required our 4 wheel drive vehicle and I was well informed on that. The setting is exquisitely beautiful.

We loved staying at Pharo Pharms. Its location is perfect to launch a day of adventure. We spent hours hiking around the area and then returning to relax and enjoy the view of the vineyards. We brought a 29’ travel trailer and parked perpendicular to the fence which worked out great for us. The road in is narrow and bumpy so drive carefully. The grounds are well maintained and the farm animals are charming.

Pharo Pharms was our home base for our 2 nights exploring Sonoma. We were pretty busy during the day, since there is so much to see and do in the Sonoma area, but it was nice to come back to the farm at the end of the day where it was peaceful and quiet, with only the sounds of birds, sheep and chickens to be heard. This is a working farm, so you should be prepared to get into that vibe and enjoy it for what it is and not expect it to exactly like your home or some other campground. You will hear sounds of those animals, including a rooster in the morning. There is farm equipment all around, dirt, gravel, grass, and even a boat on a trailer. This is rural living, and we enjoyed it for what it was. A friendly cat with 6 toes (polydactyl) came around, and was friendly if you approach gently and let him come to you. We have a van with solar and batteries so didn't need the extension power cord that was there, but we did use the water hose to fill up our water jugs. It was nice and quiet and dark at night, and morning greeted us with the sounds of all the animals making all their normal noises. We were the only campers there, and I think that's how it is. Only one camping group at a time. There aren't many camping options in Sonoma, so this is a good find!

Peaceful setting and beautiful views. There is a $10 dump station at a Shell gas station about 11 minutes away where you can empty and clean out your RV grey/black tanks after your stay. I would definitely recommend.

Lovely spot up a small hill that has beautiful views of the valley. About 15 minutes from Hopland, off of a turn that can be a bit easy to miss in the dark, though we found it with the address given in google maps.
We stayed at the Airstream spot. The Airstream itself has a big and pretty comfortable bed, a roof heater for inside, some seating and some shelving. The outside has a very cool mural piece. Only strange thing is there were no curtains.
The spot has the Airstream stepping out onto a big deck that faces the valley. You get a gas grill and plenty of seating with a light that lights up the whole deck at night. There is also a fully built out compost toilet a few steps off the deck that was always stocked and comfortable. Wifi is on site, no password, and plenty fast.
The property is above the fog line so at night turn off the lights and you get great stars and it's also very quiet albeit you can hear the road, but it's an engine running in the distance, not a noisy freeway.
Extras
Clark was VERY responsive through the app. There were a couple of things that came up ahead of our stay and he was messaging us making sure we were good, and gave us plenty of make up offers that were well above the issue but of course appreciated.
There is a pool and hot tub with beautiful views
We were greeted by a flock of peacocks one morning.
There are also a couple cats running around. We met one that was a total ham.

Nikki the owner of the camp site was super responsive and accessible :). The campsite was beautiful and well kept as well as easy to find. Nikki was nice enough to offer us a different campsite at no extra cost because we were the only ones there for that weekend. Perhaps the winter weather drove people to stay at home but we experienced perfect conditions. We even ventured down to paddle kayaks and fish on the lake :)

Great location, close to many wineries and downtown Sonoma. The RV spot is directly behind the host’s house, but we parked to face the beautiful vineyards and it felt perfectly private. Beautiful sunsets, woke to see the sky dotted with hot air balloons. Pretty magical.
