Weekend Trip to Yosemite Colfax Spring

We camped at Tioga with our truck and trailer. You're on top of the world with 270+ degree views of the dramatic landscape that surrounds. There was enough room for our truck and trailer (about 40' combined), but you'd need good tires and 4WD because the hill up is steep, and the hill down is super steep. The tables are nice, and we enjoyed the meal we cooked up. The top of the hill is even flat enough to get some sports going. This place is great for someone who wants that amazing view, is going on a river trip with Sierra Mac, or who's friends book adjacent sites. This place isn't as good for someone who places a high value on shade or privacy.

Best privately owned campsite I’ve stayed at. People were super friendly and the location is great. Close enough to Groveland for supplies/food/beer and easy drive into Yosemite. Bathhouse is top notch here for a campsite. The ONLY thing that sucked, which the hosts have zero control over, was the wind at this site overnight. Kept me up both nights. So being earplugs or something of the sort.

Our family of 4 loved camping at Michele's property for Fourth of July weekend. Michele was super warm and inviting and there was plenty of space for everyone. The view of the lake and cliff was out of this world beautiful, it was one of our favorite family vacation by far.

Really great Hipcamp! The amenities were excellent, including propane showers (they get very hot!), propane fire pits, and a grill. Lily and her groundskeeper were very helpful and communicated with us every step of the way to make sure we had a great trip! Site 1 is magic! Closest access to the river, stunning views, bird watching galore, and plenty of space to spread out. We had friends at Site 4, and they really enjoyed that space as well, it’s the next biggest after site 1 with plenty of flat space for tents. Terry and his family are very welcoming, friendly, and knowledgable. We will definitely be back!

Terry is an absolute GEM for sharing his property for others to enjoy. It is an incredibly special spot. The private and serene river frontage and all of the amenities that Terry has provided had us never wanting to leave!! The mine is just an extra cherry on top of the COOL factor. Terry is so kind and again I can’t stress enough how lucky I felt that he opened his land to others. Be advised we did take our 14 foot trailer to spot two and you will need a very skilled driver to get it back out and up the grade. We would love to come back in our tent and enjoy the serenity and the perfect swimming hole.

Terry’s property was absolutely amazing. Clean restroom, perfect and refreshing outdoor shower, and the creek is PERFECT. Terry was an extremely warm and welcoming host, was super friendly and made sure to make sure we were comfortable. There is quite a bit of sun on the sites (as noted in the description) we had an awning on our car which was helpful, but be sure to bring a shade! Or you can always cool off in the creek. Sooooo refreshing. Definitely want to come back. :-)

If you are looking for man made and leveled campsites, then this is not your basecamp. This land is a gorgeous 20 acres that means a lot to us. It's space to find your peace of mind and pitch a tent or hammock, as you would when hiking the backcountry. Aside from complimentary ice water, potty, shower, soaps, sanitizer, sunscreen, first aid, communal fire pit, wood stove and dishwashing area) this is not "glamping". If you are a person who appreciates nature and making due with what the land has provided, then we are a great fit. Guests have 20 acres to find a secluded, or socially distanced spot to pitch camp. This is for people that know how to camp in the backcountry - Without a trash can, who don’t leave cigarette butts, respect the land and would rather not be sectioned off. Flat areas are all over if you explore, and use your feet to brush aside rocks and twigs, to lay down a tent base, as we do every time we camp in the backcountry. The geography of these mountains is just that, hills and mountains. The vista at the top of the property is gorgeous and easily camps 5 tents spaced out. The property does offer many other great camping areas, and I’m more than happy to point them out. Yosemite is 30 minutes away, Don Pedro lake is 30 minutes, Cherry Lake is 30 minutes, Preston falls and Carlon falls are both 30 min away. Downtown Groveland Is 7 minutes away, and other historic towns are not too far. Close to many swimming holes. Rainbow pools is 15 minutes away. 10 min from the local grocery store and other local shops. Base Camp is just off of highway 120. A small portion of the property was used as a gold mine years ago, and you may find remnants of old home sites if you go exploring. Car and RV campers are welcomed and there is plenty of car/RV parking on the asphalt lot outside the fence at the East Side of the property near the mailboxes at the intersection of Rte 4 and Brice Station Road.

There are a few different listings, so make sure to read the details on your specific listing! -End of The Driveway -1 Pine -2 Pine The End of The Driveway is one big site for buses/RVs/big vans next to the Soup Kitchen. 1 Pine and 2 Pine are up a separate driveway on the ridge. The driveway spot is down the driveway a couple hundred yards from where we usually are so you’ll more or less be on your own, depending on if we have work to do down there or if there are other campers. We are happy to chat or leave you be, just let us know what your needs are. If you’re looking for a more isolated spot, see the listings for 1 Pine or 2 Pine. The 2nd area is “1 Pine” accessed by our second driveway that is 100 yards down the road from the farm. The driveway is kind of rough but definitely manageable with a truck, SUV or sedan if you’re willing to go for it. The drive goes up a couple hundred yards to the hilltop where there is a clearing and, you guessed it, 1 pine tree. From the back of the clearing there is a trail that leads you to 2 Pine, which is a walk that takes just a few minutes. 2 Pine is walk-in only but has great views of the sunset and is totally secluded and private and would be a good spot to either bring some friends for a little sunset party or for someone who wants to seriously unplug.
