In 2003, the Grosvenor Family Foundation donated the 238-acre retreat property located in Descanso to The Unity Center. Much of the land, including more than 12 structures were destroyed during the Cedar Fires in October of 2003. covered in chaparral and manzanita shrubbery, and seasonal waterfalls, streams, a lake with a dam, dirt roads, and hiking trails. More than 85,000 acres of magnificent desert are open for off-highway exploration and recreation within the boundaries portrayed on the park map are operated by California State Parks, OHMVR Division. Outside the boundaries, to the south and east, large tracts of BLM land (U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management) are also open to off-highway vehicles. The western boundary and part of the northern boundary connect with the 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which is closed to off-highway recreation, but open to exploration by highway-legal vehicles along established primitive roads.
The rangers and staff of Ocotillo Wells are dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable desert riding environment, and to ensuring that a quality experience remains available for future generations.

Vault toilets, shade ramadas, picnic tables, and fire rings are located in the Quarry, Main Street, and Holmes Camp areas. Water is not available. It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, or a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve containing multiple trails.
We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available.
In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements.
Fun Fact:
Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer!
Today there are just a few bees in the area.

Gorgeous YOME surrounded by trees. What is a YOME, you ask? It's a wonderful mix of a yurt and a dome and it's beautiful! Find yourself chilling by the pool or taking a nice hot shower after a hike at the lake. This is glamping at it's finest. Fan, light, Outdoor bathroom with hot shower and flush toilet. Grill a delicious meal on the gas BBQ. Put your drinks and food in the full size fridge outside. wifi throughout property. Please read everything about the space before requesting to book.
This is an outdoor private YOME near our pool. Access to pool, BBQ (bring utensils you would bring camping, plates, napkins, towels, etc. There is a small sink to wash dishes (pleases only liquid down the drain) but we do not supply dishes, so paper/disposable stuff required if you plan on cooking)
The pool, hot tub and outside bathroom is shared with our small family and anyone staying in the Poolside Lounge during the day if people are swimming, so you may meet some new people while staying at our place. The outdoor bathroom will be shared when other guests are at the pool swimming or hanging out and need to use the toilet, but most likely during the evening hours, it will be all yours, we always try to give a heads up if there will be anyone using the bathroom in the evening.
The pool is shared, we live on the property across an easement and we have other rentals on the property. There is total privacy at the YOME. Everyone who comes to stay is friendly and chill, no drama here and not a party place, just good vibes :) We have a small farm on our property with chickens and loads of rare tropical fruits and veggies and we love to give tours and share with our guests.
There are lot's of wineries in Ramona, about 30 minutes east in the mountains, as well as Julian to explore. Our glamp is great for a weekend destination or just for a rest on your way to another adventure. Although we love pets (we have a few dogs on the property), we cannot accept guests with pets at this time.

More than 85,000 acres of magnificent desert are open for off-highway exploration and recreation within the boundaries portrayed on the park map are operated by California State Parks, OHMVR Division. Outside the boundaries, to the south and east, large tracts of BLM land (U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management) are also open to off-highway vehicles. The western boundary and part of the northern boundary connect with the 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which is closed to off-highway recreation, but open to exploration by highway-legal vehicles along established primitive roads.
The rangers and staff of Ocotillo Wells are dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable desert riding environment, and to ensuring that a quality experience remains available for future generations.
No fees are collected for camping or day use. Open camping is permitted throughout the unit for up to 30 days per calendar year. Vault toilets, shade ramadas, picnic tables, and fire rings are located in the Quarry, Main Street, and Holmes Camp areas. Water is not available. Vehicle repair shops, telephones, groceries, hotels, motels, RV parks, and restaurants are available in the surrounding communities of Borrego Springs, Ocotillo Wells, and Salton City.

It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, or a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve containing multiple trails.
We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available.
In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements.
Fun Fact:
Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer!
Today there are just a few bees in the area.

Gorgeous YOME surrounded by trees. What is a YOME, you ask? It's a wonderful mix of a yurt and a dome and it's beautiful! Find yourself chilling by the pool or taking a nice hot shower after a hike at the lake. This is glamping at it's finest. Fan, light, Outdoor bathroom with hot shower and flush toilet. Grill a delicious meal on the gas BBQ. Put your drinks and food in the full size fridge outside. wifi throughout property. Please read everything about the space before requesting to book.
This is an outdoor private YOME near our pool. Access to pool, BBQ (bring utensils you would bring camping, plates, napkins, towels, etc. There is a small sink to wash dishes (pleases only liquid down the drain) but we do not supply dishes, so paper/disposable stuff required if you plan on cooking)
The pool, hot tub and outside bathroom is shared with our small family and anyone staying in the Poolside Lounge during the day if people are swimming, so you may meet some new people while staying at our place. The outdoor bathroom will be shared when other guests are at the pool swimming or hanging out and need to use the toilet, but most likely during the evening hours, it will be all yours, we always try to give a heads up if there will be anyone using the bathroom in the evening.
The pool is shared, we live on the property across an easement and we have other rentals on the property. There is total privacy at the YOME. Everyone who comes to stay is friendly and chill, no drama here and not a party place, just good vibes :) We have a small farm on our property with chickens and loads of rare tropical fruits and veggies and we love to give tours and share with our guests.
There are lot's of wineries in Ramona, about 30 minutes east in the mountains, as well as Julian to explore. Our glamp is great for a weekend destination or just for a rest on your way to another adventure. Although we love pets (we have a few dogs on the property), we cannot accept guests with pets at this time.

This is a beautiful property with very nice hosts. The grass is lush and green with trees draping over the landscape like a glorious frame. Truly a peaceful and breathtaking property. Cows and chickens and lots of bunnies hopping through.
The hookup spaces are perfect and large. They each have their own picnic table and are separated by more beautiful trees for some privacy between camp sites. A very thoughtfully designed camp area with very welcoming hosts. I actually extended my stay by a few additional nights because I got lucky with availability and didn’t want to leave that beautiful property. Even the drive to the property is serene and amazing. Thank you for allowing me and my fur baby clan to rest on your land. 🙏🏻

Beautiful property-lots of room to spread out and enjoy the terrain and night sky. Our little terrier loved exploring and just cruising around the property. We used the cabin which allowed us to set up a bed and seating area. Great outside area to cooked and sit by the fire at night.
Adil communicated with us before our available and met us upon arrival to give us keys and portable toilet instructions. We will be back when possible and we will definitely recommend Adil’s Hip Camp site to friends and family.

2nd time on Bernie's and Hoa's property. It was just as peaceful as the first time. Lots of space (there were at least 2 other campers there) and being surrounded by palm trees is pretty cool too. And it is tough to beat the hospitality. Bernie responds to any requests and tries to make sure you feel welcome. I will definitely be back when I am in the area again.

This is a solid place to camp. The outdoor kitchen was great! The ranch is a gorgeous and lush space overall, with plenty of outdoor benches and tables. The camping areas have shade from pepper trees that also bring a refreshing aroma. The yoga deck, basketball court, and archery targets were all well-kept. Hot showers! You'll be lucky if you cross paths with any of the residents—they're all lovely people. If your trip permits, stay here.

Stunning land with so much to explore! The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful, showing us hiking trails and bringing us water twice during our 4-day stay, which really came in handy. There’s no service at the site (Wi-Fi near the host’s house for emergencies), making it a great place to disconnect. The hosts’ dogs were friendly and made us feel safe throughout the stay. Can’t wait to come back when the dam is full!
