The land was originally purchased in the 1980's. Since then, it has been used by four generations of the family as a place to gather, relax, camp and even celebrate. I had my wedding on the property in 2010. For a few years we held an annual music festival with the very inventive name of Samapalooza. Up to 400 people would attend the day filled with live music, food and drinks. You will still find the stage and bar we built as an outdoor kitchen and dining area.
Around 2008, my father and I planted our first olive trees. Many have been planted since which has gifted the land the timeless sense of purpose it deserves. My father dedicated his last years to tending the young trees and now I have taken the mantle to carry the farm forward.
'The Property', as it is known amongst family and friends has always been a place to camp. I have sat around the same fire ring for decades, rain or shine. I hope that fellow hipcampers can find the joy that my family and I have experienced here.
This is a very private camp on a small olive farm. Geographically close to highways and the town of Novato, Sonoma and Napa wine country, this camp feels remote and secluded. Only one camp on the property to keep it private and special. You basically have your run of the land. We have just updated the land and made some nice improvements. Located on ten acres, you will drive past a small olive grove before reaching the spacious and open campground.
Just up the hill from the camp is a private pond where you can fish, take out a small boat or just sit and watch the birds. It can be great swimming on hot summer days.
This spot has been used by the family for decades and is now open to share with fellow nature lovers.
Just a note: While the majority of the time you can expect complete privacy, this is a working olive farm. From time to time you may run into me (Sam) or someone else associated with the land. We will always do our best to respect your space.

The price of camping includes the Ranch experiences of feeding the animals and collecting eggs. Our property is great for children! We have a trampoline, a tree house, a large livestock water trough that we use as a kiddie pool in summer, a great swing set, and room to play.
We live on a quiet 10 acre property with trees that provide some shade, and all of our sites are near the horse pastures. You might hear horses nickering and chickens clucking. There is lots of room to walk or run around. A Treehouse is available for kids to play in, a trampoline to jump on, plus we have a 17 foot high swing for kids and adults alike! You can walk the property to observe the horses, or sign up for a special horse, tractor, or welding experience.
Come camp in a very quiet and safe horse and farming area. We are near the end of a dead-end road. Our camping sites are somewhat private, some with more shade and others with more mid-day sun.
We specialize in "Horse Experiences" tailored to your level of comfort and needs. None of the horse experiences listed on our site require any prior experience with horses. We will make sure you are safe and comfortable while working with the horses.
*NOTE: Experiences are not available on Sundays (our sabbath day). We can fit them in on Saturday afternoon/evening for Saturday-night campers, or Monday morning for Sunday-night campers.
We have a private bathroom with flush toilet and sink.
Summertime brings hot days and (usually) cool nights to our area. It is not uncommon to experience 100 degree days in June, July and August. Most evenings cool down, thanks to the Delta Breeze, to around 60-70 degrees overnight. Wintertime brings cooler daytime temps (50-60 degrees) and colder night temps (30-40 degrees).
We are located about 10 minutes from the Galt area, which has a large variety of Fast-food, as well as several nicer restaurants. There is also a Wal-Mart (with groceries) and a nice Supermarket. We are about 6 miles from 2 country stores in Herald and Wilton (with gas station).
Sites accommodate up to 6 people, and you can add up to 2 more for an additional fee. If you need more than 8 people, then consider booking 2 or more sites.
With horses and the activities we do with them, dogs are not allowed.

Those of you who have experienced camping before know that these are all normal things when out in nature but for those of you who have no camping experience I ask you to come with an open mind and a positive attitude towards a new experience. If you think you may have problems with any of these things PLEASE DON'T COME!!!

also have a dog named Sara that loves people. Most campers that come are very happy to have her around. She is polite and good with children. Some of you may not like dogs, if that is the case this will not be a fun experience for you.

Close to Open Space trails. 20 Minutes to historic little town of Half Moon Bay. 30 Minutes to the harbor. Fresh fish, fresh local vegetables for sale. Moderate temperatures at 700 feet, sunny skies cooled by the marine layer below. 15 minutes from the campsite to an eclectic British Pub that is dog friendly. The beach south of the harbor and surfer's beach is a flat beach where all dogs go off leash. It is near the Miramar Restaurant where they have a dog friendly patio with firepits.

I loved camping at this ranch! The land was beautiful and peaceful. The bathroom was clean and the shower was open air which was another very nice addition. If you need firewood there is a great place to buy local firewood a few blocks up the road on Cross Road before the turn off to the ranch. They take Zelle.
Pet owners beware/everyone in general, there are a lot of ticks hiding in the grass. We found a few on our dog so just make sure to do a thorough check on yourself and your pets.

The views were breathtaking—peaceful, expansive, and truly rejuvenating. We instantly knew one night wasn’t enough and decided to extend our stay.
To our delight, the weather added even more magic to the experience. We were able to enjoy both beautiful sunshine and rain, each bringing its own charm to the landscape. It made the entire stay feel even more special and memorable.
This campsite offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and thoughtful hosting. We left feeling refreshed and already talking about our next visit. We will absolutely be back!

So much fun! We got in right after dark and Louis came down to guide us in. We had our own private driveway that circled around, very easy to get in and out. The treehouse is built very well and the netting felt like we were sleeping on a trampoline. The first ladder has about 14 steps and the second has 7. Make sure if you are carrying a backpack that you keep your body close to the ladder when climbing up and down. Would definitely come back again!

In this spring season upon entering Walden Ranch Camp, I was greeted with blooming flowers and numerous trees offering shady rest from the sun. I experienced a sense of peace and serenity in Walden Ranch Camp. One becomes relaxed with the splendor of foliage.
Mr. Alan Hanson, the camp owner, was very welcoming and friendly to me. He offered pertinent information about the camp for me. He wants to make sure that each camper can be at ease while staying at the camp. I appreciated his willingness to visit with me and provide information about the camp.
Peace is present at the camp, however, our animal friends enjoy offering calls, chirps and voices in this setting at Walden Ranch. So, sit back and enjoy the cacophony of sounds coming from our animal friends, both wild and domesticated geese, peacocks, dogs, cattle, and roosters and hens. Our animal friends also have a very large role to contribute in the natural order.
Walden Ranch Camp is a place where one can return to a simpler time. There is a certain earthiness at Walden Ranch. In many ways, Walden Ranch offers each camper a grounding in the fabric of the earth. These camping experiences at Walden Ranch Camp help protect us from the distortions in our culture.
I recommend Walden Ranch Camp as a place to regain a vibrant connection with nature.

Took my 7 and 10 year old girls for an overnight camping trip. The place was fantastic, even better than the photographs portrayed. They loved the lake and all the exploring they could do. The location is great as it’s super secluded and yet it’s just a short hop in the car for all the things we forgot (and all the ice cream treats we didn’t, but had to get anyway). Would definitely recommend.

Awesome place, super convenient if you need a place to crash as you make your on your way along I-5. Lots a space between sites, and the area was very quiet aside from a pack of coyotes in the distance. The restroom facility is great, and we loved being able to look up at the stars while we showered.

I have camped with my pop up camper at the Ranch at the Cross Roads a handful of times. It is very convienant and a great place to stay. The bathroom and shower are excellent. Always clean and comfortable I will continue to stay on this property in the future.

Great spot! Sunset and sunrise over the hills was stunning. The bathroom felt luxurious for camping and I liked the shower.
The communal area could use some work. The cornhole boards were a bit warped and most of the bags were unusable. The sink outside didn't work as well.
Overall the location was great and nearby a place to buy wood/get food. Did the job.

Our family (two adults, two elementary school kids, one dog) loved camping here. The friendly farm dogs welcomed us as soon as we arrived. While we were setting up, Adrian the very large pig stopped by. Easy set up for grilling (BYO charcoal) and campfire. Alan was a wonderful host and took us on a hayride to feed the cows and alpacas. Between the chickens, peacocks, dogs, pig, horse, donkeys, alpacas, cows, and lake creatures, my kids had a wonderful time.
We hope to come back, next time with friends.

We had such a great time at Walden Ranch. It was simple, peaceful, and exactly what we needed.
Right when we arrived, we were greeted by Alan’s dogs, three big ones and two small ones, roaming around and welcoming us in. It immediately made the place feel warm and relaxed.
Being able to use the canoe whenever we wanted was one of our favorite parts. Just being out on the water, quiet and surrounded by nature, felt really calming. The bonfire at night was another highlight. Sitting there listening to the sounds around us made it easy to slow down and just enjoy the moment. Alan had wood ready for us, and Brian brought more later, which we really appreciated.
One of the most memorable parts was going on a hayride with Alan and his family to feed the heifers, cows, and bull. It was such a genuine, hands-on experience and something we do not get to do often.
There were also so many animals around. A peacock, a potbelly pig which was such a fun surprise, and all kinds of birds including geese, ducks, chickens, and songbirds. It really added to the whole experience of being there.
Alan is a really nice, genuine person, and we loved talking with him about his backpacking trips. You can tell he really cares about the place and the experience he creates for guests.
Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.
Sitting at home now, it is one of those trips that still makes us smile. We are really grateful for the time we spent there and would definitely come back and recomment
