Okihi is approximately 15 minutes east of Downtown Bakersfield. 20 minutes away from the 99 hwy or 178 hwy. Whichever way you are traveling, we are a great stopover point.
Sites are spread around on the east side of the property facing the river for beautiful river views while you sip coffee from your site. There are a multitude of recreation opportunities to enjoy.
On site is a work in progress and you will see project sites not fully completed. We have a hammock veranda that is fully shaded and a great place to relax along the river. Miles of biking paths run on the road right by where we are situated and there is a nearby river rafting company if you want the white water experience.
Most of our campers are road tripping, getting away from LA, or are looking for a stopover on their way to/from Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, etc. We are in a desert climate – cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Portable heaters or fans with misting options are available for rent.

You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle.
Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable.
For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away.
Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.**
Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. We stayed one night at lone juniper ranch and it was a great experience! My kids absolutely adored feeding carrots to the camels, alpacas, and llamas. The property has lots of hiking trails and it's very quiet at night. Our cabin was comfortable and had everything we needed.

Loved camping on this site. Unreal sunrises and sunsets to be had. The ranch wasn’t hard to find, but I’d recommend arriving during daylight hours so you’re not wandering lost. Definitely worth the visit if you’re ever able to make the trek. Can’t say enough good things about the solitude and gorgeous setting. Slept in my tent outside, but loved having the option to sleep in the cabin inside as an option if there was any rain. The site was beautifully prepped when we arrived and I can’t recommend this campsite enough!

John was beyond kind and accommodating, especially when I had an emergency and had to leave a day early. He helped me to make sure that everything was OK and I have already received my refund for the day that I had to leave early, which was beyond generous I can’t wait to go back to the cabin with my whole family again soon.

The campsite and tipi have everything you would want, and Bill and Robin’s property itself is so creatively and thoughtfully designed to be both sustainable and beautiful. We loved staying at The Bobcat cabin. It was very relaxing and quiet, a beautiful landscape. I highly recommend to stay here a night or 2 to wind down. The cabin had everything you’ll need, just bring your food. Be aware the 2 cabins are close together. There was a llama enclosure a few feet away, it was lovely to look at and watch the animals from the cabin. The hosts are responsive and nice. Thank you for this wonderful experience, we plan to be back.

Songdog Ranch is one of my favorite places to be. It is close enough to the city to not feel completely isolated, but far enough to do the best stargazing you have done in your life. My mom is not a camper and she was already talking about coming back. My dad wants to try the larger cabin and my 12 year old son loves it here. It's hard to get him interested in something that does not have wifi. The mattresses in the glabin were INSANELY COMFORTABLE. I will come back to this beautiful place.

The cabin sits on the hosts' property but is fully fenced in, giving you your own private little retreat. Loved the outdoor space. It has a cozy fire pit, lounge chairs, and the perfect setup for enjoying the cool evening air and stargazing after the sun goes down.
Inside, the cabin has everything you need for a relaxing getaway. The queen bed was incredibly comfortable, and loved that it even had a heated blanket for the cooler months. There's also an adorable fireplace that made the space feel extra cozy. We visited during the summer, so we didn't get to use it, but it would be the perfect place to curl up during the winter. The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with all the essentials, and we had no problem cooking a delicious dinner during our stay.
The shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water, always a nice bonus after spending time outdoors.
Overall, this was such a lovely little getaway. The host was incredibly kind and you could tell they genuinely cared about creating a great experience for their guests. Would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful escape that's still conveniently close to LA.
