And the only sounds you're likely to hear are the gentle surf and ocean breezes. There's really no other place like Baja California. This land has changed little since Fernando Cortés first saw it in 1533. And dawn over the sea begins each day in spectacular fashion. Our huge front room combines living, dining, and kitchen into one 700-square-foot space, with four sets of doors which open to a broad Spanish-style veranda. It's a true Baja beach house -- not a designer bungalow on Nantucket. San Felipe doesn't offer the manicured beach resorts that you find in Hawaii or Cabo. This is a more traditional place to be. In short, we'd say that if you're the kind of person who would never go camping, this probably is not the ideal spot for you. We encourage everyone to scan a half-dozen reviews, to get the full range of guest reactions. Please note that this house has electric service, with a rooftop tank holding mountain spring water, plus propane for the stove and water heater. If you require a concierge to manage your holidays, or can't stand dust from the desert, you may want to consider another destination. Our home overlooks the beach in this area. * Biologically speaking, the Sea of Cortez is the richest body of water on the planet. This diverse sea supports more than 900 varieties of fish, and more than 2,000 species of marine invertebrates. * Spring water is trucked in, and stored in a 1,000-gallon tank. The first tanks of water and propane are included. If a water refill is required, you pay the $50. The cost of a propane refill is about $20. * There is no landline phone, but we do have wifi, and most cell phones work. * Note that Baja can be HOT, especially from mid-June through the end of August. In Summer, typical temperatures are high 90s or low 100s during the day, and 70s to 80s at night. * Pets are welcome. * Please smoke on the veranda — never inside. * Sheets are provided for the three beds. You should bring bath and beach towels, as well as your favorite toiletries. * Kitchenware is provided, but if you're particular, you may want to bring your favorite gear. * There’s a small tabletop BBQ grill, and a big old one. * A 600-square-foot garage with RV doors may be available at extra cost with advance arrangements -- but there's plenty of easy parking outdoors on approx. 1 1/2 acres. * If you have kids, please note that the bluff in front of the house is about 30 feet above the beach. * The closest path to the beach is in the arroyo just south of the house. There is also another road to the beach which begins about 150 feet above the entrance to the property. The beach itself is fine sand, and deep in places. Motorcycles and ATVs are welcome. For four-wheeled vehicles, 4WD is essential. * Kayaks and other small watercraft can be launched easily from the beach. Kitesurfing is popular. Be aware of the tides! The Gulf of California has one of the largest tidal ranges in the world, and at low tide, the ocean recedes far from the beach for a few hours. * PWCs and boats on trailers can also be launched from the beach. A 4WD tow vehicle is essential. Again, be aware of the tides. * There is a wood-burning fireplace. * There are large supermarkets in central San Felipe (such as Calimax, on the main drag). You can get fresh food and everything else you might need at reasonable prices. * Wheelchair access to the home is fairly easy. The showers are very large, but otherwise of standard design. * There can be dogs roaming free, but we've never seen an aggressive one. You may also encounter a mosquito or two, little desert critters, etc. * Snowbird? Looking for a long-term retreat? Low rates are available to quality candidates.

Cold Creek is a unique 112-acre property in the San Bernardino National Forest. Because of its location in a 3,200 foot elevation, it's colder than the Southern California deserts and warmer than the cold mountains above us. Our temperatures rarely exceed 90F and rarely drop below 40F. We have plenty sun and about two to three days of snow every winter. A year-around creek keeps everything green and fresh around the year. We are the second owners since 1913, and operate a small organic orchard on the property. We are most famous for our honey, peaches and figs, but also grow apples, pears, persimmon, blackberries, greens, bay leaf, white sage and more.For years , we were WWOOF hosts (look it up ;-) and resisted opening up Cold Creek to traffic associated with daily camping arrivals, but we finally found the perfect spots for visitors to park their RVs, spend a quiet night and visit the orchard by foot.We are now excited by the prospect of focusing on expanding our micro-farming and inviting campers to look over our shoulders.

The first tanks of water and propane are included. If a water refill is required, you pay the $50. The cost of a propane refill is about $20. * There is no landline phone, but we do have wifi, and most cell phones work. * Note that Baja can be HOT, especially from mid-June through the end of August. You can get fresh food and everything else you might need at reasonable prices. * Wheelchair access to the home is fairly easy. The showers are very large, but otherwise of standard design. * There can be dogs roaming free, but we've never seen an aggressive one. Brought my friends in mid-December to do "A Cowboy Christmas" trip and the weather was great! We didn't manage to eat at Pappy & Harriet's because they had a show that night, but that's on us for not going earlier. They really liked Red Dog Saloon anyway. We also watched the shootout performance by the Stampede on Saturday and enjoyed the art gallery and petting zoo on Sunday. Pioneer Town seemed pretty queer-friendly too, which was a nice surprise. Great for those who want to check out the bars and music venues within walking distance. Don't go if loud music and the sounds of drunk people in the middle of the night will bother you. If you do want to avoid the people noise, camp in the middle, because there's a bar and bar parking lot on each side of the campground. So far I've only seen other campers in their vans/trailers, probably only there to see a concert, which this seems like the perfect place for. The campsites are small (fit 1 large tent or 2 small ones), but they haven't been busy the 2 times I've come, so we were able to spread out a little bit past our 1 site. Bathrooms were clean but only 1 sink was working - to be fair, we didn't communicate that to the host, so they might just not know. There's a communal BBQ too, but we just used our propane stove.

Pioneertown corrals was a perfect spot to camp when seeing a show at Pappy & Harriet's. We were able to walk a couple minutes and were there. When we arrived I checked in with Jim , who was camp host and general store cashier that night. I told him why we were there and he vwelcomed us and gave us the lay of the land and offered us some pointers like " Red Dog saloon for breakfast and bloody mary" and check out the baby goats at the petting zoo. Both were great. The campground doesn't offer amenities other than a bathroom with a flushing toilet and a couple outhouses, but it's flat, clean and accessible to all Pioneertown has to offer. We have a small self contained rv, I would stay there again.

We love the town and love how easy it is to camp here. No wifi and no hookups at some locations can be a problem, but here, its a pleasure to not be distracted by phones and other electronics. The town is quiet, quaint and charming. The Red Dog Saloon, Pappy and Harriet's and all of the shops are anywhere from a 1 to 5 minute walk. There is a small petting zoo and a great rotation of all kinds of cute animals, many whom live in the houses around the area. The handlers are super friendly and they do a great job caring for the animals. This is a perfect RV campground if you are going to see a show at either one of the venues I mentioned. I also encourage anyone staying here for a show to book at least one more night so you can relax in the desert and just enjoy the small town. My one recommendation is to PRINT your reservations and directions of how to drive into the campsite before you come. There is no service once you get about 2.5 miles onto Pioneertown Road so having the print outs will be super helpful. You will park your RV in one of the spots then walk down to the Mercantile to check in (two minute walk towards the motel). We love this place and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick desert get away. There is nothing quite like it.

Nice place to camp. Fairly level for RVs/Camper Vans. The best part is being able to walk out of camp straight into a 1850s western town that still has shops and restaurants! Host was great. I would definitely recommend showing up in the daylight. The area is really dark at night.

This was such a great setup! We do not go camping often, so I wanted to book a spot that was between camping and “glamping”. This was that perfect inbetween! It does get pretty cold at night during the fall/winter, so make sure to pack plenty of extra layers and blankets. Absolutely incredible. It was the perfect spot for a weekend with my little Ford Maverick and Go Fast Camper setup. I did not have much communication with the host, but I honestly did not need much since everything was straightforward. It was a busy festival weekend, so the parking attendants were a huge help. The only suggestion I have is to include a bit more information in the instructions/getting there section after booking. Without the parking attendants I probably would have been a little confused 😅 so a simple map and some friendly instructions would probably avoid some unnecessary confusion. Not a dig on the site at all, just a friendly suggestion. Aside from that, the campsite gets rave reviews from me because of how easy and wonderful it was to stay in this beautiful western-style town. The animals at the petting zoo can be a little loud at times, but I found it charming and part of the experience. This would not be an issue for anyone in an RV. I was in an RV spot with my truck tent, so tent campers might want to bring simple earplugs since the roosters start early. Do not let that deter you. It truly is a unique and very cool place to camp. The campground is fairly minimal, but it is well maintained, safe, and friendly. Being able to walk back to your site after a night at Pappy and Harriet’s in only two minutes is worth its weight in gold. 🍻 Thanks, and I will definitely be rebooking!

2 nights at Holcomb Valley Ranch
Had a great stay tent camping on the Holcomb ranch! Plenty of trees, views, and spots to explore or just hang out. The campsites are well maintained and spaced out from one another with access to individual fire pits and porta-potties. We were a group of 4 with 2 cars and 3 tents, and had more space on the site than we truly knew what to do with. We went mid- November and the first night was pretty cold with it getting just below freezing so make sure you're coming prepared. Special thanks to the camp manager for our stay, Ed -- he was great with prompt contact and instructions for arrival, friendly check ups and information about the site, guidelines, and the area.

We had a good time doing a girls camping trip. There was ample space between us and the other campers, there were lots of trees but also great clearing to see the sky, there was a firepit, picnic table, my dog enjoyed exploring the area, and they left water for us to put the fires out. They called to check-in that we were coming, stopped by our site to see how we were doing, and provided clear directions. Already recommended the site to other families! 10/10

The Unhitched Ranch is a family run Clydesdale and Texas Longhorn Ranch. Clydesdales and Texas Longhorns have been the focus of the family owned and operated ranch. The Ranch is approximately 40 acres and is tucked away in a very unique area of Southern California and has spectacular views of the local mountains and city lights. This quaint little canyon is nestled between Loma Linda and Moreno Valley, and is home to about 800 free roaming wild burros that visit frequently.Recently we have added a Gazebo that you can camp near or under as well a a horseshoe pit, and tether ball.  We typically only open the ranch to one group of campers at a time so more than likely you will be alone with us on the ranch.  There is plenty of room for larger groups, feel free to contact us

It's one of the youngest mountain ranges in the world (in geological terms) and features scores of steep, challenging peaks, which stretch from the natural hot springs of Deep Creek in the west, to huge Yucca forests in the east. 11,500-foot Mount San Gorgonio, named by Spanish missionaries in the early 17th century, is at the center of the first designated wilderness area in America. Also known as "Old Greyback," San Gorgonio and the 11 surrounding peaks over 10,000 feet are home to an extremely rare herd of bighorn sheep. The headwaters of the Santa Ana and Mojave rivers offer premier wild trout streams such as Bear Creek, accessible only by foot. Hundreds of miles of unpaved National Forest roads offer every type of off-road experience -- ranging from an easy drive to Pioneertown, to the most radical 4WD trails imaginable (11 Difficults, six Most Difficults). The public bus stop is a short walk. Surprisingly, it is possible to take public transit from any train station in SoCal all the way to our bus stop (and vice versa). I love that we have so much pristine desert right here in LA County. It’s a true treasure. Many of my fellow Angelenos don’t realize that you don’t have to drive far to get the full desert experience.Learn more about this land:This huge 40 acre property has the best of both worlds, as you'll feel away from it all while still being relatively close to civilization.   The property is completely undeveloped (no houses, structures, etc.) and is in its pure natural state.  Pitch your tent anywhere on this pristine piece of the Mojave Desert and you will be connected with nature.  A wash runs through the property, so water for trees is not too far below ground and this property is one of the few in the Antelope Valley to have shade trees. And if you forgot anything or want to go shopping or dining, just hop in your car and you’re only 10 minutes from the heart of the City of Palmdale, with every modern comfort.
