If there is a recent storm in the area the road will be difficult to navigate.

There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area.
Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream.
Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature.
Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects.

What's even better is the property backs onto the National Forest, for unlimited enjoyment of nature. In the evening crack open a book, or start playing a game with your besties to close out a long day. The property is completely off the grid, making it very appealing to those travelers and adventurers who want to create a minimal carbon footprint on their vacation. The kitchen sink has a hand pump that draws water from under the sink from a 10 gallon water jug. You can refill the jug as needed from a hand pump located in the back yard. There is solar powered lighting and a USB phone charger station. There is no electrical power available. Cell service is available in the area depending on your carrier. The outdoor composting toilet is super clean with little or no odor. The cabin is located at 8200' in the San Francisco Peaks in the pines and aspens. Snowshoe or cross country ski, go sledding or snowmobiling, or just good old fashioned relaxation will make the time fly by. It is pristine juniper covered land in every direction at 5200'+ elevation with incredible Northwest Arizona mountain and valley views. If you're looking to enjoy the off-grid camping experience, come stay a night or 2 on "The 40 on Rte. 66." During new moon times, the sky is full of stars and the Milky Way is easily visible. During full moon times, the trees and ground are lit up in all directions. Sightings of deer and jackrabbits are common as well as hearing coyotes in the distance. Being open range land, the cattle will wander into sight. Various cacti and desert plants around the campsites. Nearby Route 66 attractions include Ash Fork, Seligman and Williams. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area.
Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream.
Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature.

The outdoor composting toilet is super clean with little or no odor. The cabin is located at 8200' in the San Francisco Peaks in the pines and aspens. Snowshoe or cross country ski, go sledding or snowmobiling, or just good old fashioned relaxation will make the time fly by. It is pristine juniper covered land in every direction at 5200'+ elevation with incredible Northwest Arizona mountain and valley views. Another fantastic stay at Jennifer’s. Stayed 12 more nights and hiked 47 miles. Great location to Cottonwood, Jerome, and Sedona. With the fenced in yard I could play ball with my poodle every afternoon. Full hook ups and nice neighborhood. I’ll see you guys in 2027!

Mary was excellent to deal with as she got back to me right away every time I sent her a message. She was very, very flexible as well. A little bumpy to get to their place so bigger rigs might have a harder time, but we didn’t have a problem in our 24 foot motorhome. It is so peaceful and beautiful at their horse ranch. There is some hiking behind their house that Mary directed us to, and we had a nice evening hike and saw a beautiful sunset. I would absolutely recommend Mary’s place to everyone!

This is a Gem of a campground! You can tell Clifford really enjoys making the campground a great place to come and enjoy nature and unwind. Loved the store, the firewood, and the meditation/contemplation sitting area, the views, and the peace. The road to get there has some rough spots, but my AWD camper van did just fine, I thought of them as reminders to just slow down and enjoy the journey!

This is such a beautiful property in an amazing location. The campground was incredibly peaceful, spacious and private. This was the most peace we had on our long journey so far - it had a relaxing and magical energy. We saw deer in the evening just resting under the trees.

We had a great stay at Lone Cottonwood at Hawks Hideaway. Vicky was a wonderful host - friendly, responsive, and easy to communicate with. The site was quiet, peaceful, and close to town, which made it really convenient while still feeling tucked away.
The space worked well for our setup and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It’s a simple, well-kept spot that does exactly what you want it to do.
We’re looking forward to coming back when the tipi is set back up!

Such a perfect stay! The cabin is perfect size for two people and the hot tub was perfect as well. There’s bamboo outside that helps with the privacy which is very nice! The location puts you out in nature but also very close to downtown Cottonwood which was a blast to visit! We will for sure be back!

Increíble experience. Only stayed one night, but highlights included the majestic Zeus, a friendly farm dog, errant pigs running around, baby goats and sheep, and a turkey named Diamond that wanted a pet.
Our host was gracious and helpful, and was so warm and friendly to our 5 year old son. Highly recommend.

Our stay with Clifford was truly wonderful. Clifford is quite possibly the kindest person we have ever met. While we were en route to his site, we experienced several mechanical issues with our camper, and from the very first message Clifford was nothing but understanding, flexible, and incredibly supportive. He was so accommodating with our arrival time, endlessly patient, and always quick to respond — his communication alone instantly put us at ease during what could have been a very stressful situation.
We travelled from Los Angeles to Las Vegas over eight days, staying at several different camps along the way, and this was without question our favourite. The location is breathtakingly peaceful. The sky was unbelievably clear, allowing us to see more stars than we ever have before. Watching the sunrise from the site was genuinely magical, and the entire area felt calm, tranquil, and completely removed from the noise of everyday life. Most importantly, we felt entirely safe and welcome throughout our stay.
This is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave — not just because of the stunning surroundings, but because of the warmth and generosity of the host. We loved the site so much we joked about moving in with Clifford… and honestly, we’re only half joking.
Thank you, Clifford, for such a special and unforgettable experience. We would return in a heartbeat.

We really enjoyed camping in our trailer on Mary's land. It was great to have full hookups and the neighborhood was so quiet and felt secluded even though it's only a few minutes from town. My favorite part was watching the hot air balloons float over us each morning. Very cool spot.

Jennifer and George are the perfect hosts. There if you need them and otherwise give you your privacy. It’s a perfect location for hiking Sedona. I could be on the trail in 20 min. Also from camp it’s a great walk down to Oak Creek low water bridge. I stayed for 4 nights and then rebooked for 12 more!!

We had a wonderful stay at Mary’s site. She was very responsive and friendly. My daughter enjoyed meeting her cute little puppies and seeing all of the animals nearby. The views are beautiful and there are some hiking trails in walking distance from the campsite. We had so much fun hiking in Sedona, we ended up staying a second night. Would definitely recommend!
