With 160 acres located just off Highway 118, two miles north of Study Butte, 7 miles from Terlingua Ghost Town, 7 miles from Big Bend National Park and 16 miles from Big Bend Ranch State Park, Arboles Muertos is a perfect place for tent campers, small trailers and Class-B RV's and digital nomads to set up a home base for all the many activities in the area. Your privacy is our #1 priority, so our sites are spread out over the property and most are not in view of other sites, providing you with a backcountry camping experience, yet only a few minutes off the highway. For large groups, or those that are into a more social camping experience, we also have a cluster of three sites spaced about 150 feet apart. We have several spotlessly clean composting pit toilets on the property, all just a short walk from your site. All guests have access to our centrally located outdoor shower. Rancho de los Arboles Muertos gets its name from the 25 foot tall Eastern Red Cedar trees that are being salvaged from land clearing operations near Austin and "planted" around the property. We're located directly across the highway from Willow Mountain, with 800 foot sheer faces and rising over 1000 feet above the highway, making it one of the most prominent features in the area next to the Chisos of Big Bend. The property is covered in Ocotillo, hidden arroyos, tall bentonite dunes, volcanic ridges, dry creeks and the occasional fossil. Trail runners can easily create 5 mile loop over ridges and in arroyos without leaving the property. For the burners out there, the place will have an unmistakable deep playa vibe once all trees have made it home )'( Socialized dogs are allowed on leash, but we do have a high coyote population in the area, as well as other dangers to pets. Large groups are welcome and we also rent the entire 160 acre property for private events. Please contact us for more info. We are a completely off-grid property, so remember to bring water! In the event of heavy rain, the roads could become impassible for a few hours to a couple days. If we see a major storm in the forecast, we will contact you directly to discuss options. The rainy season is late summer, however, and we are not taking bookings during that time, so this should not be an issue. Check out our Instagram page for more about us @arboles_muertos

Safari Tents at Knotty Soul
100% (8)
Safari tent · Sleeps 12
Come unwind your knotty soul at this spacious and secluded off-grid site just 10 minutes from Big Bend National Park. With two 12x14 safari tents, one with a queen bed and the other with 2 queen beds, plus an additional 10x12 kitchen tent, this space is a perfect getaway for groups of 4-6 with plenty of additional space for extra campers. Tents are comfortably furnished and linens are provided. The kitchen is stocked with basic cooking and eating utensils, french press, teapot, and 3 burner propane stove. Your space and privacy are our number one goal. Enjoy mountain views to the north, east and south, and sunset views deep into Mexico to the west, with no other dwellings in site! Both tents sit on an elevated deck, have similar furnishings, and sleep two comfortably on queen beds, with plenty of space for additional cots or sleeping bags. The kitchen tent has plenty of room for coolers and gear. We are an off-grid property, but you'll camp in comfort with radiant heating, plush linens and, of course, dish and trash service...because camp cooking is fun, camp dish duty is not. Inside the sleeping tents you'll find queen beds with down comforters, chairs and a dresser. In the kitchen tent, cook meals camp style on the 3 burner propane Carolina Cooker stove with cast iron skillet and griddle, then slide on over to the fire pit for smores. We can provide quality firewood for an additional fee. Basic cooking and eating utensils are provided, but you will want to bring your own cooking oils and spices. French press, stove top kettle, coffee and tea are also provided, as is filtered drinking water, so don't forget your bottles. We are in a designated dark sky area with some of the brightest stargazing in the lower 48, so all lighting is minimal. We have ample solar lighting inside the tents, but we recommend headlamps for outdoor excursions. Water is a scarce and expensive commodity for desert communities, so please help us cut down on usage by bringing your own shower towels and keeping shower times to a minimum. Book now if you are ready to get away, get outside and make memories with friends and family in comfort and complete privacy, as these go fast!

Really enjoyed the experience at Knotty Soul. Just sad that we could spend only one night. Brian called to let us know that impending storms could potentially cause problems accessing the site, so we chose (and Brian encouraged us) to find alternative accommodations. That proved wise as winds, rain and lightning were wicked. Hosts promptly refunded remaining nights even though not really their problem. Will cherish the laughing of coyotes at night, lots of stars and spending time with family around the outdoor fire pit. You're not exactly in the wilderness, but you feel like you're in your own world.

Our stay at Ipo was magical. Everything was clean and updated. The cabin was stocked with everything we needed to cook our food, stay cozy, and keep our electronics charged. It was so close to Big Bend and the Terlingua Ghost Town.

We loved tent camping at Chiclet and Radar spots. The views and sunsets were spectacular. Was not able to have campfire due to burn ban. Luckily I brought my propane burner and disco to cook all of our meals. The outhouse and shower were a great blessing after our hikes in BBNP.
