Most of the campsites are about a half mile up the hill from our main entrance. So a total of about a mile to the beach. Each of our campsites are very rugged: not super flat and have jagged rock. The roads getting to each campsite are STEEP, NARROW, and have very FEW TURNAROUND OPTIONS. We recommend ONLY EXPERT drivers with 4x4 rigs. Lastly; there are no bathrooms! Please make sure you bring your own bathroom!

Riverberry is the perfect setting to get outside and connect with nature. Relax on the riverfront, go for a swim under a waterfall, fish, hike, rockhound, and explore old growth rainforest, located on the beautiful and pristine North Fork Nehalem River. There is plenty of room for private or group camping. Sites are secluded and firewood, ice and fresh eggs are for sale on site; shared portable toilets for camp guests and potable water is available at the homestead for filling your containers. The North Fork Nehalem river is home to some of the best salmon and steelhead fishing around. It is still a wild place and not uncommon to see deer, elk, beaver, bald eagles, coyotes and a very rare bear sighting. You will be a 20 minute drive away from the coast in Manzanita for beach beach combing, farmers market, unique shops, epic hikes and local cuisine. Just past Manzanita, another 10-20 mins further, are Cannon Beach and Seaside. Check-in is from 2-7pm. If you need accommodations outside of that time frame please give us at least 24 hour notice. There is a motor boat launch in the town of Clatskanie, with access to Columbia River. There is also a launch in the city park for kayaking. The Zen Monastery is just 5 miles away. Long Beach, WA is across the Columbia River via the Astoria Bridge. Lounging about the homestead works too.

The tiny town of Nemah has zero commerce only a few scattered farms and homes. Eagles and Elk grace the sky and the property for added visual fun. About

Just north of Cannon Beach on a nine-mile stretch of the perpetually windswept Oregon Coast, Ecola State Park offers a mix of viewpoints, wooded hiking trails, and sandy beaches. The most popular spot in the day-use park is Ecola Point, right at the southernmost parking area, which offers fantastic views of the beaches to the south and easy access to miles of trails. A second parking lot sits a bit further north at Indian Beach, where you’ll find picnic tables, a vault toilet, and easy access to the sea and sand.

When to go

Ecola State Park is beautiful no matter when you visit, and even cloudy skies give this stretch of coastline a mystical ambiance. While winter isn’t the most popular time to visit, it is ideal for spotting migrating gray whales. Sunny, rain-free days are ideal for hiking and exploring, and the likelihood of good, clear weather is highest from July through September. Sunsets are particularly enchanting, when oranges and pinks light up the sky and the sun appears to drop into the Pacific Ocean.

Know before you go

Bring layers and raingear. The weather at the Oregon Coast can be unpredictable, and just because it's sunny in Portland or in other inland destinations doesn't mean the same will hold true at Ecola State Park.
While Ecola is a day-use park, there is a small hikers' camp with primitive camping for those hiking on the longer Oregon Coast Trail. However, this camp is designed as a stopover, not a destination.
Parking is free for those with camping receipts from other area state parks.
If you can’t find a parking spot at Ecola, head north to Tillamook Head Trailhead, where there are additional spots.
