Welcome to 7 Sparks Ranch. A Resilient Haven in the BC Interior Nestled in the recovering forests near Kamloops. We are a working ranch and campsite offering a peaceful escape into nature. Our property faced significant challenges from the 2021 Sparks Lake forest fire, but we’re proud of the regrowth and the new life emerging across the land. Come experience the beauty of nature’s resilience firsthand. We raise cattle and chickens, and we’re excited to welcome two new additions to the family: a highland cow and her daughter a highland mini Hereford Cross. Enjoy a relaxing getaway with 7 Sparks Ranch. Consider extending your stay to fully unwind and explore everything the area has to offer. A beautiful creek flows right by the campsite, dip your feet in. You can go for walks or nap under the Aspens! Spring note - snow has been melting and the ground is unthawing - please feel free to send me a message if you have any question about the gravel road. It can be muddy and bumpy while the road awaits its winter repairs. We are one hour outside of Kamloops on a maintained public gravel road, however AWD or 4WD recommended during late fall to late spring. We have no minimum stay but highly recommend two nights. Do not use google maps to find our place - it can be very confusing. Google maps may show coming to our property from Savona but the easiest drive is from Kamloops. Please use the directions that get emailed to you just before your stay. To get here head to the Kamloops airport then follow Tranquille Criss Creek Road. We do not recommend traveling this road in the dark if you are not familiar with it! Wonderfully private! Come give our land some love as it recovers from the 2021 Sparks Lake forest fire. Acres and acres to hike, mountain bike and snowshoe. Surrounded by crown land there is no lack of space to explore and easy access to forest service roads to quad and bike. Many lakes near by for fishing and kayaking. Wildlife galore! There are wild flowers and plants so come forage and explore. Disconnect from the busyness of city life! Coming soon - guided hikes, foraging and information about local medicinal plants and a soon to be Apothecary on site! Detailed directions available after booking!

Roche Lake Provincial Park camping guide

Overview

About

Set high on the Thompson Plateau, one small creature draws the vast majority of visitors to this park—rainbow trout. Seven of the park’s lakes are stocked with this colourful sport fish, and together, they form a world-class fishing destination. Two are easy to reach, as both Horseshoe Lake and the namesake Roche Lake sit along gravel roads. The other five? You’ll have to work a little harder, hiking along informal trails through Douglas fir forest. Along the way, you may spot anything from moose to mule deer, as well as a wide variety of birds, including mountain bluebirds and vesper sparrows. Then settle in for the night at a waterfront campsite.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for the chance at a spot: Roche Lake West has 21 of the park’s 33 sites.
  • Best for groups: Roche Lake North has the most open space.
  • Best for a slightly more private experience: Horseshoe Lake is the smallest campground with just a handful of sites.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. All sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis—you can’t reserve in advance. If you want to be assured a spot in summer, especially on holiday weekends, arrive early in the day and hope for the best.

When to go

While campsites are serviced between May and September, this is a year-round park. Summers tend to be hot and dry, and can be a bit dusty, but this is the prime time to camp with warm day-time temperatures and chillier evenings, especially late into August. If you come in May or September, be prepared to bundle up at night. And while winter is cold and snowy, it’s perfect for ice fishing or for skiing and snowshoeing on the informal trails.

Know before you go

  • Anglers in BC must be in possession of a valid fishing license—you can get one at most places that sell fishing supplies.
  • Black bears are active in the area, so keep your food in your vehicle and immediately deposit garbage in bear-proof receptacles.
  • If you need to make a call but can’t get a signal, there’s an old-school pay phone at Roche Lake Resort, on the same road used by the park.
  • For grocery, hardware, and a good selection of stores selling camping gear, head to Kamloops, about 45 minutes north.
