We live in a quiet neighbourhood in a forest that has been a source of peace, relaxation, and fun for us in our growing up years. We’ve noticed that people who visit here say they feel the same way. With plenty of space for kids to explore and adults to relax, our 3 acre forest is perfect for down time with a book in the hammock or a nature walk before dinner. Amenities and service: A single, tidy campsite with picnic table surrounded by mature and gently manicured forest, as well as a hammock, and a new construction outhouse. (Go dad!) We love hospitality, so though we won’t always be around when you’re here, if we are and you need something you can simply ask and we’ll do our best to provide what you need. To help you feel welcome we provide a fresh, cool jug of drinking water and large container of fresh potable water as well as access to an outside tap to fill water containers if needed (upon request) , power to charge devices (upon request), and a campfire ring with firewood (sorry about the frequent fire bans. Huge bummer. We will post current fire ban status while you’re here.) Surroundings and local attractions: Our property is situated in a low traffic rural residential area within ¬ 3 km to Sandy Pool Regional Park (5 min) A family favourite! ¬ 10 km to the Cowichan Valley Museum (Duncan Totem Tour) (13 min) ¬ 14 km to the Pacific Northwest Raptor Center (15 min) ¬ 19 km to the Hand of Man Museum (20 min) ¬ 20 km to Lake Cowichan (16 min) for swimming, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc Note: Lake Cowichan is also home to ‘The Tube Shack’ where you can rent tubes to float down the Cowichan River and catch the Tube Shack Bus back to your car. We do it every summer! Fun fact! It’s a 10-minute bike ride from our house to the Cowichan Valley Bike Trail. *(All destinations calculated from our dining table by Google maps) There are multiple well known hikes within 20 minutes (we suggest googling Stoney Hill Trail, Mt Tzouhalem, and Mt. Decourcy Meadows is a peaceful forested site within a short walking distance to a safe local swimming beach. We are an RV-only campsite. The site is level and can accommodate vehicles up to 40ft in length. Electrical, sewage, and potable water hookups included. Amenities include a picnic table, wifi and a fire ring and some fire wood supplied at no cost. If there is a campfire ban in effect we will provide a propane campfire. The property is about half natural forest and so it's not unusual to see local critters, large and small peeking out! There are several hiking trails in the area and local parks as well. There are 3 artisans on Decourcy Drive. The world-famous Crow and Gate pub is 4 km from here and the historic Wheat Sheaf Hotel (Pub) is about 5 km. Local restaurants and Cafes, Groceries, Pharmacy are 5 km. We are a quiet country getaway located 25 minutes from Nanaimo Departure Bay Ferry Terminal. Duke Point Terminal is about 20 minutes. Picturesque town of Ladysmith is about 25 minutes south and the very Unique town of Chemainus is 35 minutes and very worth seeing.

The Gertie Bus is located a 5 min walk to a beautiful white sand beach (at low tide). There are walking trails all around and lots of beach access. Tucked into the front of our property in the quiet of Gabriola island you’ll find the converted Gertie bus with all the amenities you need. The bus has a gas stovetop/oven, bar fridge and sink with grey water system. Equipped kitchen and sofa area to hang out. The standard queen bed is great for sleeping in and relaxing with that second cup of coffee. Mountain biking, hiking, swimming and whale watching are just steps away. There is beach access across the street through a private park with picnic tables, a very old eagles nest and a private access to a rocky beach perfect for sunsets. The home itself has a pottery studio on the main floor with a full time studio Practice. Give Paige a ring if you’d like a tour, she’s usually working away. Our family lives on the top floor. Outside the bus is are lush veggie gardens, fruit trees and a nice private outdoor dining area. A BBQ and solar lights also help with evening hangouts. Family friendly! Also we love animals but we ask that you clean up after your pet and keep any animals that aren’t so great with kids and other animals on leash. We have a dachshund on the property that is friendly and old ( barks at strangers but is all bark I assure you, he just wants to be friends)

Learn more about this land: Wild Coast has 2 nightly campsites for you to enjoy. Site one is a large, flat open gravel base. And Site 2 is a large, flat grass based site. Please note you must have your own trailer or tent. We’re a 5-10 minute drive to Rathtrevor beach/Parksville, Englishman River. We are right in the middle of an extensive trail network perfect for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding.  Both sites have plenty of space for RVs and trailers - we can accommodate vehicles up to 45ft in length. 30 amp Electrical and potable water hookups are available on both sites. WI-FI onsite as well. There is a flush toilet and sink available in our farm store that is available for guest use. No shower yet, but we are working on it! The property is private yet close to all amenities. Local favorite Rocking Horse Pub is a quick walk next door and a must-stop for dinner and drinks!  Centrally located on Vancouver Island, it’s a perfect spot to set up the rig and day trip out to Rathtrevor, Little Qualicum, Parksville, Coombs, Port Alberni valley and Nanaimo, or go for an overnighter in Victoria, Tofino, Mount Washington and the Comox Valley. Campfires are permitted as long as there is no fire ban and we have dry firewood for sale onsite. If you would like firewood send us a message before you arrive. Pets are welcome, but please be responsible for them. There is a large open grass field for you to let them run and burn off that energy. Sea to Sea regional park is one block away for amazing hiking and mountain biking opportunities. This site is a decent size, but a tight turn into it. We have gotten a tent trailer in there...it was a just tight! **update 2026** the area behind the site has been cleared pending a build. There is no ongoing construction while campers are here. This will be the last year this site is open. Black-Bears are on property year-round. www.bearwise.org please secure all attractants. Porta Potti Rental is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED. It's available for a flat 15$ fee. Please empty and clean it when finished. Weekend Trip to Maple Tree

My best friend and I visited Salt Spring Island for the first time from Puyallup, WA with my small elderly pup for a long weekend and Jim’s place was the most PERFECT location and set up! We’re obsessed with the island and can’t wait to come back! I was able to charge my Tesla quickly with the electric setup, and it was an added plus with the outdoor fridge to keep our things cold. There’s a clean porta potty and a water spicket to wash hands and dishes. Having the option for a hot shower for a small extra charge was a huge relief after a day spent hiking and biking! Jim is so friendly and laid back, we felt comfortable knowing he was only a text away if we needed anything. He gave us the best map to help us navigate cool spots to check out on the island. We woke up to deer, rabbits and the sound of birds each day, it was so lovely. Definitely make sure you eat dinner on Jim’s balcony at least once - it’s so pretty watching the sun set over Mt. Baker. It was trip we will never forget 💕 We will definitely be back!!!!

Weekend Trip to Forest Hideaway

I loved this site. It was easy to find, and everything was perfect and exactly as described. The site is very private and feels like being in the middle of the forest. Sarah greeted me once she got back from work, and the next day she recognized me on the street as I walked past her cafe, Serve (great coffee, from Mark's Roastery!). That kind of small-town warmth made the whole stay feel even more special.

Rod’s HipCamp site was absolutely delightful! A quiet spot in the woods with a lovely hiking trail to the water. Rod was a tremendously affable host! He provided me with a propane firepit so I could sit outside and enjoy the evening. I told him I was interested in possibly setting up a HipCamp site at my home in Shelton, WA. And he gave me a lot of good, positive information. He should be an ambassador for HipCamp! He really loves hosting people. Another bonus: the amenities included a sewer and grey water dump and water.

Steve’s place is perfectly located, comfortable, and convenient. We walked over to the Butchart Garden which was amazing! Steve is a fun and friendly host. We also love the ducks! We highly recommend camping here whenever you’re in Victoria. Skip the hotels and make a camping trip out of it.

Weekend Trip to Terravita Brentwood Bay

This campsite is a children’s delight with a flock of ducks and one giant goose meandering around sprawling gardens. The ducks don’t wander near the campsite but you’ll see them when you walk up to the washroom and kitchen area. The site is a walk in and because we were parked by the road it was a note worthy climb, but perfectly doable unless you have heavy gear or mobility issues. The setting is in a beautiful wooded area and there are two hammocks to relax in. The tent site is fantastic, flat and softly covered with bark mulch. If you want a woodsy rustic campsite but with the comfort of a flushing toilet and a hot shower, book this site! We’d be back and honestly probably book over a provincial site. Steve is really nice and welcoming.

What a lovely spot! My son and I were delighted with our stay in the Tipi on Duck Creek Farm. We arrived just as the Friday market was getting started and enjoyed the strawberries and veggies we bought from Sue, who was a welcoming host. The farm is a lovely place to relax - we even indulged in a swim in the pond. Would love to return sometime.

Very nice host! Paul was pleasant to talk with! He gave us good advise for our travel to Tofino. Space felt very private, even though right in their front yard. Tressel with beautiful wisteria bush provides a nice separation. Dogwood tree was in bloom when we were there. Very short walk to beach with a bench to sit on. My mobility-challenged husband handled the walk just fine. Took him about 7 minutes. Eagles were at beach when we were there! Get the Seafood Chowder at the Rusted Rake Brewery (only 2km away)!!! Would return!

I had a great stay at the Edlerberry site. I found it easy to find the campsite with very clear easy to follow instructions. The sites are private, large, clean and exactly and exactly as described. I would recommend camping here when visiting this area.

About

Families, water skiers, and wind surfers are drawn to Gordon Bay Provincial Park’s warm lake waters, while anglers enjoy fishing for trout and Dolly Varden trout. Gorden Bay is also close to a wide range of activities including golfing, museums, hiking, and the Cowichan River, famous for its 2.5-hour float trip. The park’s large, 126-site campground is found in a forested area on Cowichan Lake near the community of Honeymoon Bay and comes with hot showers and a “learn to fish” program for kids. Gordon Bay Provincial Park lies within the territory of the Ts'uubaa-asatx Nation.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations are available through BC Parks’ Discover Camping website for dates between May 15 and September (groups from March to October).
If visiting on a weekend or holiday (Canada Day, BC Day, or Labour Day) you’ll want to secure a spot as far in advance of your trip as possible.
You may be able to score a first-come, first-served spot, especially mid-week, if you show up right after check-out time (11am).

When to go

Gordon Bay Provincial Park is open for camping year-round, though some services like hot showers may be unavailable outside of the regular May to October season. For the warmest lake water, visit in July or August. Wind surfers tend to head to the region in the windy months of April and September.

Know before you go

Wood ticks can be a problem in this region between March and June.
There are some barrier-free facilities at this park, including a wheelchair-accessible walking trail, campsites, and showers.
The nearby communities of Honeymoon Bay, Lake Cowichan, and Youbou offer a variety of museums and restaurants.
Cowichan River Provincial Park is nearby and also has camping.
