Looking for camping near Victoria, BC? Our peaceful 1.5 acre property on the Saanich Peninsula offers the perfect escape just 20 minutes from the city. Enjoy a scenic stay only a 3-minute walk (yes only 200m/200 yards) from the world-famous Butchart Gardens and steps away from the trails of Tod Inlet. Experience the best of Vancouver Island’s natural beauty with the convenience of being close to town. Half of the property is beautifully forested with majestic fir and cedar trees, while the rest features thriving vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, and our friendly ducks. We’ve long hosted adventurous bikepackers on their journeys and now warmly welcome hikers, bicycle tourists, motorcycle travelers, and car campers alike. We offer three unique sites tailored to your camping style: - Licorice Fern (WALK-IN Tent Site): A private, deep-forest retreat located a 1–3 minute walk from parking. Comfortably hosts up to 4 guests. Closer to the road, so some daytime road noise that completely fades at night—ideal for late risers. - Cottontail (WALK-IN Tent Site): A bright, sun-soaked spot close to the kitchen/washrooms, just 1–3 minutes from parking. Accommodates up to 4 guests and gets wonderful morning sun. Expect some cheerful chatter from our free-roaming nearby ducks — perfect for early risers. - Pacific Dogwood (Drive-in RV/Van Site): Built specifically for slide-in campers, truck toppers, rooftop tents, and cargo vans. Includes a 15-amp power hookup and picnic table. Note: less suitable for ground tents due to privacy. Each site is a short stroll away from the dishwashing and meal-prep station with a sink, kettle, flush toilet, and a hot rainwater shower. Fresh, high-quality drinking water is available at the washing sink along with electrical outlets for charging phones and e-bikes. Well water is available either at or nearby each site for washing and cooking. There are also a couple of hammocks in the forest to relax in during your stay. Nearby Attractions & Access: - Butchart Gardens: 3-minute walk - Butterfly Gardens: 4-minute drive - Greater Victoria: 20–25 minutes - Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (Vancouver & Gulf Islands): ~20 minutes - Mill Bay Ferry Terminal (northbound connections): ~5 minutes - Coho Ferry to Port Angeles: 25 minutes The charming village of Brentwood Bay is just a 5-minute drive away, offering a grocery store, pharmacies, restaurants, cafés, a pub, and all the daily conveniences you might need.

Our Cottontail site features a spacious 12' x 20' (4m x 6m) tent pad, perfect for up to a 4 person-sized tent. A table and chairs are provided next to the tent pad, with comfortable space for up to 4 adults. This is a WALK-IN site from your vehicle (2-3 minutes walk). The site enjoys plenty of warm morning sunshine and transitions to pleasant shade in the evening hours. There are two parking spots available at the bottom of the property (one covered with a ~7' 3" clearance, one uncovered), just a short 2-3 minute walk from the site. There are hammocks nearby for you to relax and enjoy the peaceful forest setting. Amenities: - A water tap is located at to your site for general washing. - An overhead line is installed to hang tarps along with attachment points around the site. - High-quality drinking water is available at the dishwashing area. - The outdoor dishwashing sink, flushing toilet, and shower are just a short walk away. - The outdoor shower is coin-operated — a $1 loonie (Canadian $1 coin) gives you 3 minutes of hot rainwater. - If you don't have/don't want to setup your own tent, we have one available for your stay (add in the Extras section when you book). Power is available nearby for charging phones and e-bikes. Throughout the camping season, we often have fresh duck eggs available for purchase. They are roughly 1.5 times the size of chicken eggs and have a richer, creamier yolk. Please note that this site is walk-in only from your vehicle. While you are welcome to sleep inside your vehicle, we kindly ask that you keep all other activities—like cooking and socializing—within your designated campsite out of respect for our neighbours. Our tenting parking spots are not perfectly level, but rigs with leveling should be good (at most 4"/10cm front to back, level left to right). Why the name “Cottontail”? The property is home to many Eastern Cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus floridanus). You’re likely to spot these small, speedy rabbits during your stay — they’re most active in the early morning and evening hours.

Our Licorice Fern site offers a comfortable tent pad measuring approximately 12' x 10' (3.5 m x 3 m), suitable for up to a 4 person-sized tent. A picnic table is provided on a lower terrace right beside the tent area that is 9' x 8' (2.7 m x 2.5 m). This is a WALK-IN site from your vehicle (2-3 minutes walk). The site is pleasantly shaded throughout the day by mature Douglas fir and cedar trees. There are two parking spots available at the bottom of the property (one covered with a ~7' 3" clearance, one uncovered), just a short 2-3 minute walk from the site. The licorice fern (Polypodium glycyrrhiza) grows from Alaska to California in rainforest areas and can be found on the ground, rocks, and on trees, with a preference for mossy maple tress. The root can be eaten and has a licorice-like taste. The fern is not used for commercial licorice extraction. Licorice fern is chewed for flavour by numerous indigenous groups.

Our Pacific Dogwood site features a 25'/7m long parking spot for your rig/camper van/car with rooftop tent or similar with up to a 17'/5m width. The site is located next to our duck pen, so there will be some quacking and an occasional goose honk during your stay. The site enjoys filtered sunlight through the day and is only a 1 minute walk to the dishwashing station, toilet, and shower. There are hammocks in the forest for you to relax and enjoy the peaceful forest setting. A picnic table is available next to the site for your exclusive use as well. You are welcome to set up a tent here, but both Licorice Fern and Cottontail sites are better suited for tent privacy. Amenities: - High-quality drinking water is available at the dishwashing area. - The outdoor dishwashing sink, flushing toilet, and shower are just a short walk away. - The outdoor shower is coin-operated — a $1 loonie (Canadian $1 coin) gives you 3 minutes of hot rainwater. - There is a plug available right at your site (NEMA 5-15 plug, 15 Amps/GFCI). Throughout the camping season, we have fresh duck eggs available for purchase. They are roughly 1.5 times the size of chicken eggs and have a richer, creamier yolk. Why "Pacific Dogwood"? The Pacific Dogwood (Cornus nuttallii) tree grows up to 15–20 metres tall. It produces large, brilliant white blooms in spring (and often a smaller second bloom in early autumn). It is famously the official provincial floral emblem of British Columbia and there are several dogwoods on the property.

Steve and Tina were very kind and courteous hosts. We enjoyed our stay in their little forrest oasis. The directions were simple and the location is perfect. Only a short drive to Victoria. The kitchen, toilet and shower was helpful during our stay. You can tell everything was thoughtfully designed and executed to accommodate. The ducks including silly Goosie were a treat. We would absolutely book with them again. Good hearted people through and through.

Ducks, lots of ducks! This site was perfect for us. Close to the garden with a flushable toilet and running water. I loved the ducks, but they are a bit noisy, so light sleepers be warned. Fortunately, my family are heavy sleepers so it was no issue for us.

Perfect place to camp. The location was excellent as it was close to Tod Inlet and Butchart Gardens. The hosts were great. From the first communication to the last. We slept in our car because we have a bed there and it was nice to sleep under the carport. The hammocks were a great place to hang out and read. The shower and bathroom were just as described… as were the ducks and goose! We will be back!

We had the best time camping at Licorice Fern! The property itself is peaceful and surrounded by gorgeous forest. We loved saying hello to the ducks and enjoyed their fresh eggs. Above all, Steve is a wonderful person and it was delightful chatting with him. This was an amazing stay and we certainly recommend you visit!

The campsite location was ideal especially since it was right next to Butchart Gardens which we'd been wanting to visit. That plus the (reasonably) quiet locale and the excellent setup and directions the host Steve had put together, made this a very viable stay. We'd come again!

My daughter and I loved this sweet place! It was the perfect spot to land after exploring Butchart Gardens. Our camping spot was clean and tidy. We particularly loved the hammocks in the trees and the antics of the ducks and goose. Steve was welcoming and kind. We hope to return again!

Steve had a great set up for camping on his land. It was in a great location, we walked to Butchart gardens which was really fun. Our only difficulties were the geese/ducks were really loud one of the nights and we had to pay for showers with a Loonie (which we didn't have). Regardless, I would be willing to go back and camp there again.

We stayed at Terravita for a couple of nights at the end of a camping trip. What a repose! The campsites were tucked away in tall trees. Every walk along the trail to and from vehicle or amenities was a magical moment. The ground was level and comfortable for tenting. The land and animals are cherished and cared for. Great place to convene with nature and retreat from the peopled places. And when you want to return to it, the hubbub is just a scenic drive away!

Our spot was exactly how Steve described it. Worked well with our little teardrop trailer and the ducks were a fun distraction. Easy drive into Victoria. Steve was helpful and friendly. We would satay here again.

We appreciated the clean and organized camp. The proximity to Butchart Gardens was also key. The goose and ducks were fun to see, but we had not expected them to be so loud (especially during a long while in the very wee hours of the morning).

The camp was awesome. Very whimsical tent locations. The goose was hilarious... the homemade soap is great. Overall this was a good spot for the price. I will say the spaces are just big enough for our 6 person tent. If you're group camping have smaller tents or book both tents sites. While our parking was great. Location to the gardens was great. Very easy going host that only ask you to respect his animals and property. Would recommend and use again.

Loved the private set up for the camp site. The directions for finding the site and where to park were perfect. There is a great area with a sink, drinking water, flush toilet and shower. I could make a cup of tea with the kettle provided and charge my phone. I would highly recommend this option.

This campsite is a children’s delight with a flock of ducks and one giant goose meandering around sprawling gardens. The ducks don’t wander near the campsite but you’ll see them when you walk up to the washroom and kitchen area. The site is a walk in and because we were parked by the road it was a note worthy climb, but perfectly doable unless you have heavy gear or mobility issues. The setting is in a beautiful wooded area and there are two hammocks to relax in. The tent site is fantastic, flat and softly covered with bark mulch. If you want a woodsy rustic campsite but with the comfort of a flushing toilet and a hot shower, book this site! We’d be back and honestly probably book over a provincial site. Steve is really nice and welcoming.

Steve’s place is perfectly located, comfortable, and convenient. We walked over to the Butchart Garden which was amazing! Steve is a fun and friendly host. We also love the ducks! We highly recommend camping here whenever you’re in Victoria. Skip the hotels and make a camping trip out of it.

We had the brand new tent site - Liquorice Fern. It’s further from property so more private. Was nice to have a shower and they hadn’t marked up the cost wildly like some hipcamps, only $1 per 3 mins. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Ducks are cute, bar one goose, but she’s very entertaining even if you do have to assert yourself to be allowed past ‘security’ to get to the sink for washing up lol! :) we failed to notice there was wifi too, but that’s great!
