Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Located just a 3 minute walk from Butchart Gardens and a short hike to Tod Inlet, we have 1.5 acres that is about half forested with fir and cedar trees. The rest of the property has many vegetable gardens, orchards, and our ducks. In the past we have hosted many bikepackers on their journeys and now welcome those hiking, bicycle touring, motorcycle touring, or car camping. Our tenting-only sites are all located in the forest and each site has room for up to four people. Water is provided at the sites or nearby plus we provide good quality drinking water in jugs at your site. Plugs are also available for charging phones and ebikes. A short walk away from the campsites there is a dishwashing/meal prep bench and sink. There is a day hammock to enjoy the forest near the tenting sites. We also have a flush toilet on site and a hot shower will be installed in April 2026. Nearby attractions include Butchart Gardens (3 min walk), Butterfly Gardens (4 min drive), and greater Victoria (about 20-25 minutes away). Swartz Bay ferry terminal is about 20 minutes away (Vancouver, Gulf Islands), the Mill Bay ferry terminal is about 5 minutes away (connects to Mill bay and destinations north of Victoria), the Coho to Port Angeles is about 20-25 minutes away. The nearby village of Brentwood Bay is about a 5 minute drive away and offers a grocery store, pharmacies, various restaurants and cafes, a pub, and other conveniences for your stay.

Cottontail

(6)
Tent site · Sleeps 3
Our cottontail site features a pad area of about 12'x20' (4mx6m) for your tent(s). A table and chairs are provided as well and there is enough space for 3 adults or 2 adults and up to 2 kids. This site receives quite a bit of sun in the morning hours and is nicely shaded in the evening hours. There is room to park bicycles at the site or if you have a vehicle (motorcycles or car), there is a covered parking spot on the property with a minute walk to the site. Hammock tents are welcome too. There is also a hammock nearby to enjoy the forest during your stay. There is a water tap at your site for washing and good quality drinking water is available at the kitchen area. The dishwashing sink, toilet, and shower are a short walk away. Power is available for charging phones, bikes, or EV's. In spring and early summer we also have duck eggs available. They are about 1.5x the size of chicken eggs with a more creamy yoke. Why the name "Cottontail"? The property has lots of Eastern Cottontail Rabbits (Sylvilagus floridanus) and you will likely see a few of these small and fast rabbits during your visit. Like all rabbits, they are most active in the early morning and evening hours.

Licorice Fern

Tent site · Sleeps 4
**Note: This site is under construction and will not be open until April 2026** Our licorice fern site features a pad area of about 10'x8' (3mx2.5m) for your tent(s) and is suitable for up to 4 people. A picnic table is provided next to the tent pad area on a lower terrace. This site is nicely shaded throughout the day with the surrounding douglas fir and cedar trees. There is room to park bicycles at the site and car parking is located at the bottom of the property just off Benvenuto Ave with a minute walk to the site. Hammock tents are welcome too. There is also a hammock nearby to enjoy the forest during your stay. We provide good quality drinking water at your site. The dishwashing sink and toilet are a short walk away. Power is available for charging phones and ebikes. Why the name "Licorice Fern"? The licorice fern (Polypodium glycyrrhiza) grows from Alaska to California in rainforest areas and can be found on the ground, rockes, and on trees, with a preference for mossy maple tress. The root can be eaten and has a licorice-like taste. The fern is not used for commercial licorice extraction. Licorice fern is chewed for flavour by numerous indigenous groups.
