A countryside retreat overlooking pastures with both wildlife and horses. Enjoy a relaxing getaway at Prancing Pony Lodging located on a 37 acres farm. The geodome tent includes a queen size bed, kitchenette, and 3 piece bathroom. There's a deck to lounge in the sun, a gazebo sun shelter, and a fire pit. For outdoor adventures, hike next door on 11 kms of trails in Hemer Park or one of the other 70 hiking destinations in the Nanaimo area. Visit Wild Play Nanaimo for adventure courses, axe throwing, zip lines, etc. (10km ~12 minutes drive). Or check out the Nanaimo River swimming hole less than a 5 minutes drive. Shirewoods is a working farm with goats, sheep, horses, pigs, ducks and chickens. On site you can meet the animals, the petting farm has goats, chickens and ducks. Hold a baby goat, or chicken (possibly a lamb), pet a sheep or goat. Say hello to the pigs and horses over the fence. If you'd like an authentic farm experience, please let us know and you can join us for one of our daily life farm activities (for example collecting eggs, helping with feedings, and waterings or other farm experiences).The dome overlooks the pastures, and guests often enjoy waking up to either the horses or goats grazing nearby. In the wet seasons, the ducks will likely run past on their way to their forest mini-pond (or maybe big puddle is a better descriptor). In the front area of the dome, guests have access to their own picnic table and fire pit. During the summer months there are also 4 glamping tents run by Elevated Escapes. The campsites are spread across ~ 7 acres, so a decent size for everyone to have their own space. Shirewoods Farm is only a km away from the famous Crow and Gate Pub. The first neighbourhood pub in BC, with a welcoming olde English style atmosphere and amazing food. A grocery store, liquor store, general store, another pub and restaurants are all within 3 kms.

Bernadette is such an amazing host! She made sure we were comfortable and message communication was quick and clear. We loved the tranquille atmosphere of the farm with the beautiful view of animals walking around eating, swimming and playing. Having our dinner at the porch watching sunset was memorable. Farm dogs and cats were calm with our dog and playful. Experiencing collecting the eggs and petting the animals added another charm to the stay!

Dreaming of the Dome

Bernadette has a fantastic farm with beautiful animals. The dome I booked was filled with everything you could want and more! We were so well taken care of, it was PERFECT! The outdoor patio was beautiful to lounge and read my book on. The bed was beautifully made and so comfortable! It was a little chilly in the middle of the night, but that's camping! I spoke with Bernadette as we were meeting the animals in the morning and she explained all of the upgrades that she is planning and actively working on. I can't wait to come back and stay again! I'm dreaming of winter storms and that beautiful dome!

This spot was absolutely incredible. It has every amenity you could ask for and more. The bed was very comfy, and it was a perfect spot for our pups. 10/10!

Excellent Stay!!

We had an absolutely WONDERFUL stay here! Bernadette was super communicative both before the booking and while we were staying there. There was an unexpected heatwave and she went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable by bringing in extra fans. The space is super clean, very comfortable, easy to find. The location itself is lovely- we spent the evening watching ducks wander by, and we woke up to the sound of a rooster and horses and goats mozeying about. It's also convenient to a great pub, The Crow and the Gate, which I highly recommend. 10 out of 10! Would definitely recommend!

City escape with adorable animals!

I loved staying here! The hosts are so welcoming and clearly are so grateful for their beautiful property. The dome was so comfortable and had everything we needed. There’s a swimming spot 5 minute drive away and if you ask, they’ll gladly show you all the farm animals and you may be able to collect eggs or hold a baby goat. Its very evident they take good care of their livestock. My favourite part was the quietness. Away from the city, amazing stars, pure quietness. It’s perfect!
