We are confident you won't want to leave the farm, but in case you choose to explore beyond our 98 acres there is lots to still see and do within only a short drive.
We are located close to Buckhorn, where you can explore more lakes, pick your own berries or visit pumpkin patches, pick up groceries or enjoy the restaurants in Buckhorn. Also, in nearby Bobcaygeon you can find world-class shopping and dining, parks, beaches, festivals, a heritage village, and even more lakes.
One hour north of us is Haliburton, with the Haliburton Forest and Wolf visitation Centre, Sir Sam's ski resort, shops and restaurants, and Sir Sandford Fleming's college of Fine Arts.
Lakefield is only 35 minutes away offering shopping, a world famous literary festival, fine dining, and antique shows most weekends.

Located an approximate 200ft from the York River, our 700 sqft cabin features vaulted ceilings with ample amounts of sunlight for a cozy yet airy feel. It is fully winterized with baseboard heaters and a wood stove.

The cottage is at the edge of a large wilderness area. We supply an ultra-safe large canoe with paddles and lifejackets. It's an easy and fun 15 minute paddle to reach the cottage.
The cottage is an artistic gem on a safe and quiet lake with beavers and loons and numerous bird species -- owls, herons, hawks, ospreys, and many migratory songbirds. In over 20 years of experience on the lake, we've seen no bears. It's a cosy three-room place with a small bedroom (8x12) with an antique double bed; a main room (16 x12) with a single bed; and a kitchen (8X12). Sleeps 3, max.
Access to the cottage is up a short set of irregular stone stairs from the lake. This could be an impediment for elderly or frail people. The lake is not a private lake. There are other cottages. But it's a very quiet lake and often there's no one else there.
The landscape is very similar to Algonquin Park's. North Kawartha is famous as the birthplace of the canoe. This is a thinly-populated landscape of rugged granite bluffs, thickly-forested hills and valleys, and gorgeous lakes that remain quiet and peaceful even during the hottest summer weeks.
This place was made by and for lovers, artists, poets, musicians, dreamers, writers, environmentalists, ecologists, escapists...and their children.

Or check out the sandbar and drop off at the boat launch at the end of the road. The lake has a diverse shoreline and perfect for small boats and kayaks. Enjoy beautiful sunsets overlooking the western end of the lake.

Originally inhabited by Algonquin peoples the land was cleared for farming and they erected several building including a large German style hand hewn timber frame barn which still stands and is used today. The farm house was built in the 1910 and the original log cabins have been reframed into artistic buildings. It is wild to look around and imagine what life was like before now in a time when the land had no boundry lines and was traversed by indigenous peoples of this area. Sparrow Lake Camp is situated on the southernmost tip of the majestic Canadian Shield. The site is known to have been a campground for bands of the Huron people prior to the European intrusion. It is considered probable that Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore Huronia, spent a night on this site in the 17th Century.In 1892, what would become the west side of the current property was sold by pioneer Captain Thomas Stanton to Toronto's renowned Massey family to act as their summer resort. The resort sported the main lodge, dining room, and cottages and was only accessible by train and steamer. From the onset, the Masseys used the site as a summer retreat for the Young Men's Bible League of the Central Methodist Church. Today, the property is a thriving summer camp that also offers overnight tent stays with stunning lake views.

The cottage is at the edge of a large wilderness area. We supply an ultra-safe large canoe with paddles and lifejackets. It's an easy and fun 15 minute paddle to reach the cottage.
The cottage is an artistic gem on a safe and quiet lake with beavers and loons and numerous bird species -- owls, herons, hawks, ospreys, and many migratory songbirds. In over 20 years of experience on the lake, we've seen no bears. It's a cosy three-room place with a small bedroom (8x12) with an antique double bed; a main room (16 x12) with a single bed; and a kitchen (8X12). Sleeps 3, max.
Access to the cottage is up a short set of irregular stone stairs from the lake. This could be an impediment for elderly or frail people. The lake is not a private lake. There are other cottages. But it's a very quiet lake and often there's no one else there.
The landscape is very similar to Algonquin Park's. North Kawartha is famous as the birthplace of the canoe. This is a thinly-populated landscape of rugged granite bluffs, thickly-forested hills and valleys, and gorgeous lakes that remain quiet and peaceful even during the hottest summer weeks.

Sparrow Lake Camp is situated on the southernmost tip of the majestic Canadian Shield. The site is known to have been a campground for bands of the Huron people prior to the European intrusion. It is considered probable that Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore Huronia, spent a night on this site in the 17th Century.In 1892, what would become the west side of the current property was sold by pioneer Captain Thomas Stanton to Toronto's renowned Massey family to act as their summer resort. The resort sported the main lodge, dining room, and cottages and was only accessible by train and steamer. From the onset, the Masseys used the site as a summer retreat for the Young Men's Bible League of the Central Methodist Church. Today, the property is a thriving summer camp that also offers overnight tent stays with stunning lake views.

Weekend Trip to Burke’s Barnyard - Farm Camping
It was our third visit to Burke's Barnyard and our first time in the bunkie. It was very cozy and was already warm and comfy when we arrived. We stayed warm and cozy all night as the temperature dropped to -15C outside. As always we loved our trip to Burke's and can't wait to book our next visit.

We stayed at the Hemlock Grove site with 7 people, 3 cars and had plenty of room! We had 2 hammocks and 3 tents, this site is great for hammocking. Brent was very accommodating and provided all the information we needed. Unfortunately we got hit with some bad weather, but I would recommend Tryfan Forest to anyone looking to enjoy a quiet weekend on a beautiful piece of land.

Due to vehicle problems, I was unable to make my way to the site. Therefore, I can not comment on the facilities and the site. However, Brian was very supportive and attentive throughout. I can say that he is a fantastic host. I will definitely go to this site next time.

A beautiful and accessible but secluded spot! Great for a relaxed car camping experience. The host was helpful and responsive. Fire pit and provided chairs/picnic tables were all in excellent condition. Bathroom also excellent and clean. 10 / 10 would camp again!

Dale's yurt-style tent was an excellent spot for us to meet up and rest for one night before our canoe trip in the Kawartha Highlands. Dale was quick to respond to my questions and went out of his way to provide wine glasses. The electric fireplace was a welcome feature on a cool night. We made breakfast at the well-supplied outdoor kitchen. The light at the outhouse was a nice touch, though it could have used some cleaning. Thanks a bunch, Dale.

2 nights at Natural Joy! Cosy Canoe Cottage
Paul's cabin is so cozy and situated within such a stunning and remote area.
We loved canoeing around Ragged Lake and looking the beautiful big faces of the Canadian Shield. We also loved just starring out at the lake and looking at the birds, the trees and the stars. My partner and I had such a lovely time and will definitely be visiting again!

We had a wonderful time here. The place was private, beautiful, clean and cozy. Dale was an amazing host - super responsive, flexible and a pleasure to deal with. If the outdoor shower setup and the outhouse can be fixed up a bit that would make it even more comfortable, but overall it was a great value for the price and I would 100% recommend this.

We had again an amazing experience at Sharrons. This was our second time staying here and i believe now this is going be every year. My 5 yr old loved every single moment here especially the beautiful animals. She fed them, played with them and even held a bunny. It was a dream come true for her. Wonderful setup and lovely location. Up on a hill surrounded by trees giving lots of privacy. Great clean and cozy outhouse/washroom facility. Lots of seating provided with brand new picnic tables for adults and kids. I am an avid kayaker and the Black River is just steps away. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and hope to be back again.

Always a pleasure tent camping at Middle Earth, this was our third time here, second time at the woodlands camp site! The fall colours were incredible and we got to hang out with the squirrels and toads. This spot is very private with lots of space for parking and tents, and a nice large fire ring. Definitely prepare the necessities for taking care of business in the wild!

It was a great spot to pitch a tent and unwind after a few days of fishing some Haliburton lakes. Easy to get to and Jennifer was a great and helpful host. The location is very scenic with the marsh and pond nearby and beautiful tall woods surrounding the site. We didn't get to meet Jennifer (we were too busy fishing all day) but she kept in contact and provided firewood as needed. The only downside I could think of was the barbecue on site didn't seem to have any propane, which was no big deal. We brought our own and actually didn't even know there would be one provided. The outhouse was a bit rustic, but for two guys living off the land it was a luxury to have a toilet at all. Lol. Would definitely go back!

Bret was a fantastic host! Very easy to communicate with and flexible. The campsite is perfect if you’re looking to spend quality time immersed in nature, away from crowds. It started raining right as we arrived and didn't stop until the next day, yet it was still a great trip! There's something special about this place!
It feels very private and tucked into the woods, but there's a gravel road not far away, so you'll hear vehicles from time to time. Or people walking and talking and you'll think there are people in the bush, but they pass eventually.
