Camping in Ontario is all about lakes and forests, with easy access to nature in the province’s national and provincial parks, wine-making regions, and lakeside cottage communities. Though home to Canada’s national capital, (Ottawa), its largest city (Toronto), and its most popular tourist attraction (Niagara Falls), Ontario’s location bordering four of the five Great Lakes means sandy beaches, thousands of islands, remote canoe routes, and miles of wooded trails to explore. Marie and Thunder Bay, campers can explore remote Pukaskwa National Park, as well as Sleeping Giant and Lake Superior provincial parks along the shores of the largest Great Lake.

East of Toronto and hugging Lake Ontario, Prince Edward County is popular among campers and glampers who love good food or want to laze on the beaches and sand dunes of Sandbanks Provincial Park. Continuing east along the St. Lawrence River (which divides Canada from the United States), you can paddle from island to island or set up camp in Thousand Islands National Park. Major cities in eastern Ontario are Ottawa, Canada’s national capital, and Kingston, where the Rideau Canal meets the St. Lawrence.

Ontario’s southwest corner borders both Lake Erie and Lake Huron, between Toronto and Detroit. You can visit Canada’s southernmost point in Point Pelee National Park and tour the small wineries that cluster around the towns of Kingsville and Leamington. The popular beaches and campsites of Pinery Provincial Park are along Lake Huron’s southern shore.

Encompassing the city of Toronto, Rouge National Urban Park, the Niagara region, and the Muskoka Lakes—known as Ontario’s “cottage country”—Central Ontario also includes Algonquin Provincial Park, one of Ontario’s most popular canoe camping areas, and Bon Echo Provincial Park, where more than 250 indigenous pictographs are preserved on rocky cliffs.

This beautiful spot was re-forested with pine a number of years ago, and was sectioned off from the surrounding farmland, which is now maintained by the mennonite community. It is 8 1/2 acres of wetland and forest, with a mown perimeter, and cool places to tuck into the forest for the night. The current owner was a special educator, and now is slowly turning the land into her homestead. There is a beautiful, spa quality outdoor shower next to a tidy and 'fancier than most' outhouse, a strawberry patch as well as wild alpine strawberries all over the property, a big dog and a small indoor cat keep her company. Here is what the land offers: -Bunkie in the Forest: A sweet 8x8 ft. space with new bunk and mattresses as of April 2023 -Strawberry Fields bunkie: an 10x12 space with a loft with a queen memory foam mattress and a main floor with a full futon and a small table -Campsites: Meadow, Forest and River spots. Close to each other, but you'd never know it! All three are chill and serene places. The property backs onto a ten-foot swimming hole in an otherwise shallow part of the Saugeen River. -RV Spot: With electric hook up ideal for RVs 30 feet and under -a connection to the organization, 'Black Folks Camp Too'! Like most folks who’ve been bitten by the water ski bug, I dreamed of having my own lake and when I met my life partner Harald, an elite slalom skier, my search began in earnest. By a combination of good timing and good luck, I was able to make that dream come true and in the spring of 2014 I acquired this land with the hopes of building my dream water ski lake on it. 7 years later, we have a thriving water ski club and are constantly making improvements to the site. We now have decided to add some sites for rent to share this incredible property with others outside the water ski community. Site #1 is a small cabin that sleeps 3 and site #2 is a small houseboat that has been converted to a bunkie. Onsite activities include use of a canoe and paddleboard. Use of a kid's swingset and olympic trampoline. Swimming and fishing. Pets are welcome, campfires are permitted.

Heavens Acres has been a stop over since the 1850's for people travelling by horse from Toronto to Owen Sound. We have 100 acres surrounded by another 200 acres of conservation land. There is camping in the pine forest as well at the very back of the property where you will find a hardwood bush with trails. Please note that the hipcamp map shows a large body of water on the property, as does google driving maps. It is a marsh, not a lake. Google Earth shows it better. There is however, a creek and pond, but don't bring your boat. :) This is a "LEAVE NO TRACE" campsite, so please take all garbage when you leave. There is no water or power, but there is an outhouse Please note that in the winter months. There’s a $25 surcharge. This is required for snow removal to access the sites that are at at least 1 km into the bush. We are in a snow belt area and it is very difficult to keep the sites open in the winter. Four-wheel-drive is required for access in the winter!

Each site has a fire pit and a compostable toilet and there is a compostable toilet in an outhouse on the property for the bunkie. Great for canoes, kayaks, bird and wildlife watching with spectacular star gazing. This property was part of an old homestead and as such I am still finding things so please respect the caution tape. Some finds are treasures (European Grapes, Bergamot, French Roses, Asparagus, Rhubarb, Ramps, Fiddle-heads) and others not so much. We purchased this farm in 1998 from the previous farmer who had owned it since 1929. The train line ran right by the gate where the Kota hut now sits and would drop cattle right there to be finished and sold later at the Toronto Stockyards. Our barn was built in 1890 with the old farmhouse located across the creek. Two creeks meet the Grand River on our farm. The bunkie is situated north of the barn and faces Willow creek. During the summer the creek gets quite shallow but there are a couple of pools that work nicely for a float with our river tubes. The river also has a small swimming hole. The bunkie is nestled between 2 hills which creates a natural little valley. Campers can take a walk around the property or use the nearby long walking trail. New this spring, campers will be able to enjoy the firewood sauna, located close to the bunkie and nestled in a private spot near the creek.

Common sense goes along way here at the plane cabin... Brand new beautiful tiny house cabin with a plane surrounded by majestic trees and trails around the property. If the nights are cold you will need small pieces of wood for the stove. Bring your own blankets & pillows. As well as anything needed for cooking. We had a peaceful time during our stay.. although a cold 2 nights over March break.. it was a memory maker. Host was great and kept in contact. Would recommend to adults who can appreciate nature and surroundings.

It was our third visit to Burke's Barnyard and our first time in the bunkie. It was very cozy and was already warm and comfy when we arrived. We stayed warm and cozy all night as the temperature dropped to -15C outside. As always we loved our trip to Burke's and can't wait to book our next visit.

This was my first hipcamp experience and I hate gotta say, it was amazing. Our host was super cool, he let us do our thing and if felt like we just had our own private gorgeous forest. The Plane is epic, the story of it is amazing, you can go watch a video I made about the history of the plane on YouTube, link below. This place really blew us away and we will certainly be going back. We even extended our stay an extra day. It's peaceful, you can hear coyotes at night, and there's tons of room to explore. Definitely recommend for anyone, I brought my two kids, husband and my dog and the first night me, my 5 year old and my dog slept in the plane, it was awesome. Don't miss it on this place, it's so cool and so worth checking out. The Bunkie, no matter what season, is NOT COLD. Once you get that fire going in there, you gotta sleep with the windows open in February. It's that warm and nice. We came during the winter and stayed in the bunkie for the weekend, and it was so beautiful and the wood stove kept us warm all night! Getting there was very easy, they even made a track for us right to the bunkie since the snow had been bad the days prior. Felt very secluded and was a perfect weekend! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

This was an amazing stay. First, it was extremely last minute as we booked it 15 minutes before showing up. Despite that, Joan was very accommodating and set us up right away. It was a nice basement unit with everything we needed included heated floors in the bathroom. The property itself was also beautiful - though we didn’t see a lot of since it was winter. Overall Joan was a great host - friendly and responsive. Highly recommend

We went during winter so didn’t get to fully enjoy the outdoors but site is really private and place next to it is definitely a nice touch. The cabin is a little small but it’s new and built nicely. Washroom was clean and built nice aswell Rick had been great at communication and made sure snow path was clear for us to get in and out.

2 nights at the Goose - Jamink Farm

The cabin was nice and quiet. It stayed pretty warm in the cold weather. Julia and her family were amazing. She was extremely accommodating and made sure that we had everything we needed. The breakfast was fantastic and we ended up doing the farm tour as well. It was cool to see all the animals and it was very thorough. We even got to feed some calves that were born the day before. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at The Goose and we’ll definitely be back.

The perfect place to stay for a remote escape. The sky out here will make you want to come back for more! The Amish built cabin is perfectly insulated, and even in -15 windy weather I was warm and cozy thanks to the wood burning camping stove. Rick is a great host! Highly recommend.

My children and I loved our stay at Rick's place. Tha cabin and airplane are in great shape and nestled in the middle of the woods. Rick was a good host and everything was as we expected. The wood stove in the cabin kept us warm in mid November, and the airplane was big enough for two kids with winter sleeping bags. It was a memorable trip. Thanks, Rick.

Lovely little cabin. Well-insulated, and has a wood stove. Doesn't take much fire to warm the place up. The main cabin has three single-bed cots plus a single bed mattress in the loft, but know there is very little headroom up there. Probably more suitable for a child. There's a table and four chairs. The plane has room for an adult or a couple of kids to set up sleeping bags. Very quiet. Didn't hear a thing aside from the wind in the trees. Just what I wanted for a Hallowe'en camping weekend. The outhouse is clean and as nice as an outhouse can be. Watch out for the dogs on the way in. They're friendly cuties, but don't seem car-smart, so drive extra slowly.

What an unexpected delight at this hipcamp! Perfect weather for our flight!

What a thrill to go up for a scenic ride in Erik’s ultra light two seater plane. We really lucked out finding this hipcamp. The instructions were excellent and the hosts very responsive.

Weekend Trip to Heavens Acres

Firstly, Rick was the best host. Informative, responsive but left us to our own devices. My partner and I were looking for somewhere functional and secluded and this property hit all the marks. We stayed there with our 3 large dogs and were able to explore trails onsite that were easily accessible and intuitive. There's also a great clearing in the marsh where we were able to catch some shooting stars! The first night we stayed in the smaller cabin, which was a dreamy little slice of rustic bliss. Second night we stayed at the unique plane crash site - overall has more space and access to the plane worked as a perfect refuge to shelter from the elements, while conveniently placed steps away from the warmth of our campfire. Clearly both sites are treated with care, clean and filled No doubt, will be back.
