Forager Hill Farm on Hayward Lake

Our 5 acre forested farm backs onto Hayward Lake and has the Stave River at the front of the property. Our farm has ducks, chickens, rabbits, and a collection of cats. There are wild berry bushes throughout the property and the surrounding forest. Lake access is private (people could hike in or canoe up, but normally we have it to ourselves) and the lake itself is a great spot for wildlife watching (beavers, deer, bats, fish, bears, owls, eagles, osprey etc.). The Stave River in the front of the property offers a more sunny spot for swimming and fishing. The Hayward Reservoir Trail circumnavigates the whole lake and the trail entrance is a 5 minute walk from the cabin. The cabin site includes a picnic table and outhouse. We provide fresh spring water and campfire wood can be supplied ($10 a bundle). The cabin is insulated and can be heated with the wood stove so it is suitable for use all year.

This is a quiet forested residential area in Sinixt territory. Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor, Cannabis and Conscientious Objector. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Emerald Pools. Supplies and services are available nearby including firewood, toiletries, dog day care, massage, bike and canoe rentals, life jackets, rubber dingys and paddles etc. Let us know if you would like a referral to any of these services. There are many guides available for activities in the area including (water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours and native history). There is a particularly valued native storyteller here that can also provide a walking tour to a nearby village site with a full scale replica of an aboriginal kekuli (earth house). Please call ahead for recommendations on booking guides or storytellers. You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy. The Vallican Whole community center also has events nearby.

Welcome to our little slice of Heaven on the Oyster River in Black Creek, Vancouver Island. This is a unique and private camping experience! We're excited to announce the addition of a rustic, off-grid, one-room log cabin with bunkie, available for your 2-night minimum stay. Nestled in a forested area of our property, the cabin offers unlimited access to sandy riverside beaches, swimming and fishing holes, stunning views, and endless hiking/biking trails. Equipped with limited electricity, the cabin includes basic cooking tools, cutlery, a Coleman cooker, and a charcoal BBQ. Upon request, we provide full linen and pillows. For chilly nights, cozy up by the wood stove. Outside, you'll find a private fire pit with two chairs. The cabin is serviced by a new, clean pit toilet and outdoor shower. In the loft, there's one queen-sized bed and one twin mattress. Rates - April 1st to June 15th: $80 per night (2-night min) $5 linen cleaning fee $10 for outdoor firewood 3-night min for May long weekend No pets allowed High season - June 16th to September 2nd: $100 per night (2-night min) 3-night min for July, August, September long weekends $5 for Linen Additionally, we offer two (working on more) tent pad sites overlooking the river. Each site accommodates up to a 6-man tent or 8 edge-to-edge. A large flat area is available for double or group tent sites. You will have to pass through our back yard to get to the cabin however, we are located on a hill/mountain side so the cabin is quite a bit lower, thus you have your own separate area to retreat to.Please note that, at this time the cabin only offers a urine diverting composting style toilet and no shower. There is a sink inside the cabin with a cold running tap using RV style plumbing. You may use the kettle provided to fill the sink for doing dishes or freshening up. This is very much a glamping style accommodation.There is a space heater and heated blankets stocked in the cabin however, it is still recommended to bring warm clothes to keep you extra cozy during the colder months. Being in the Valley most people do lose their cell service heading our way, so keep that in mind when booking. However, we do offer WiFi to all of our guest.

To access this private retreat we offer to transport you and your supplies with our ATV, although some prefer the peaceful 1/4 mile hike. Explore the historic staging grounds for a Wild West cattle auction, where the cowboys drove the herds onto trains at the end of the KVR line! Please respect nature as wildlife, flora, and dangerous terrain are part of our environment; explore at your own risk. There are hot showers and flush toilets for guest comfort but require a short walk to access. Campfires are banned but we provide propane cooking and living utensils. Embrace off-grid with minimal cell service and no wifi; instead allow nature to fill you. Although Okanagan nights cool down effectively, we have used science and shade in designing these rooms to dissipate heat. We provide fans and evaporative coolers when needed and offer our guests plenty of ice (provided in an insulated picnic chest) for those delicious summer drinks and storing food during your stay. Our country style welcome has guests coming back. Ask us about interacting with animals, our farm produce, gold panning and sluice box in Lucky Strike Creek, hammock rentals, E-bike rentals (Grandfondo runs right by our property), endless hiking, and more! Also, ask us for an update on when our pool will open (with wifi access)! Some guests want nothing to do and need all day to get it done. Within 10-15 minutes drive you will find dozens of wineries, District Wine Village, Tickleberrries ice cream parlor, golf, shopping, restaurants, Area 27 racing, lakes, etc. We caution you to carefully re-read this description of our unique space; most of our guests are looking to escape the city life, while some love a romantic getaway, but all appreciate nature.
