This is a quiet forested residential area in Sinixt territory. Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor, Cannabis and Conscientious Objector. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Emerald Pools. Supplies and services are available nearby including firewood, toiletries, dog day care, massage, bike and canoe rentals, life jackets, rubber dingys and paddles etc. Let us know if you would like a referral to any of these services. There are many guides available for activities in the area including (water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours and native history). You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy. The Vallican Whole Community Centre also has events nearby.

The campground is located in a serene fir and pine forest surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This is the most popular site and has its own fire pit. Its close to the community building. Its partly in the trees so the tent site is shaded, but also close enough to the cleared area so it has the best views. This hut has a queen-sized bed with bedding and a small desk in a heated, insulated and finished 8′ x 10′ wooden hut. The hut is built on cedar poles with a deck that wraps around a tree. This is a heated, insulated and finished private hut with bunk beds and mattresses. Each bunk bed has a single mattress, sheets, pillows, blankets and a towel. There is an option to add an extra mattress on the floor for a third guest. Bedding for the third mattress is also an optional extra. There is power in the hut. Nice site & pitch. Good location not too far from Nelson. Tom was having issues with sani drainage so loo’s were basic…..he did let us know prior to stay. Tom is selling up & has a lovely house on site.

Excellent campsite and facilities on my way thru Nelson. Tom was a very gracious host and greeted me wonderfully. Amenities were clean and totally functional. Zero complaints.

Tent Site 14 with power
Tom’s camp was in a quiet, dark area, and centrally located. It had all the amenities we needed, and the community building was a great place to meet others and research the next day’s adventure with his guidebooks. With Tom’s advice we were able to enjoy some great swimming holes, and paddle boarding locations. Looking forward to coming again and exploring the hikes in the mountains. Thanks Tom.

It was a good campsite, we got there a little late and Google maps takes you to the wrong address. You gotta go up a different road, but once we got there it was good. Tom was good, he showed us around even though it was dark. We were just there for the night and left early morning but he had tons of amenities and wifi.

We had an EXCELLENT stay at Vahalla Pines Campground! Our host, Tom, made the stay extra special. Tom shared a lot of super interesting local history and gave us some great tips for stunning swimming holes in the area. He also gave us detailed information about floating the Slocan river, including where to put in/out. We had paddle boards and thoroughly enjoyed the absolutely pristine water while paddling and swimming on a hot day. The Vahalla Pines Campground is tucked in the woods off route 6, so it's a nice location midway between Nelson, Castlegar and points to the north. We stayed at 'Site 14 with Power' and it was *perfect* for us. We were nestled in a circle of pine trees with beautiful star viewing overhead. The site was private, quiet and very peaceful. I really appreciate the "lights out by 10pm" rule, because that makes star viewing extra special. We are inspired to visit again and have a longer stay, I highly recommend Vahalla Pines Campground! * Be sure to get detailed driving directions because there is no internet service on most of rt. 6; the Wifi at camp is excellent, which was helpful for planning day trips. ** If you like art: be sure to tour the Murals all over Nelson and visit Castlegar, "The Sculpture Capital of Canada", both were outstanding!

Tent Site 5 - with shelter
Everything! Quite safe and clean. The host was my favorite camp experience of my entire life and I camp often. He even put in outdoor showers and kept the compost toilets cleaned and emptied on a daily basis if not more often. This camp is always fully booked for a reason. It’s centrally located (close to Nelson) and many music venues and restaurants. The fully furnished community building with a washer and dryer and two refrigerators is also a plus. My favorite spot is always tent site 3. Really enjoyed drinking coffee and conversations about life and travel with my fellow traveler and Thomas (Tom). Going to miss him!

We had a really great stay at this campsite! The site itself was super private and peaceful, and everyone we met was friendly especially Tom, the host, who was welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We’d definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a nice place to camp. The only thing I’d suggest for improvement is having some accommodations for people who have periods. There weren’t any disposal options for period products like tampons in the bathrooms, and no amenities to make it easier if someone needed to manage their period while camping. It’s a small but important detail that would make the site more accessible and comfortable for everyone. Overall though, we had a wonderful experience and would happily come back!

Valhalla Pines Tree Hut
We loved our stay in the treehouse cabin at Valhalla Pines. The space is small (only bed and desk) but very comfortable! We took advantage of the little patio area to have our morning coffee and read. The hut overlooks a common area/building including washrooms and dishwashing space, picnic tables and hammocks. It was a great blend of camping vibes and comfort! We enjoyed meeting the other folks staying on the property and having a cuddle with Tom's dog, Sophie. The septic was down during our arrival, but Tom had toilet and shower backups in place that were great alternatives, and he had everything else up and running by the next day. We didn't explore much around the camp, but there is a river nearby that would be very tempting on a hot day. Highly recommend!

Tom has created something really special here… something I think a lot of people dream of creating. The campground was the perfect blend of nature and amenities, on a beautiful piece of land, in a beautiful part of the country. Private Hut with Bunk Beds
Charming, Clean, and Perfect for Our Family! We had such a great stay! The place was cute, quaint, and super clean — ideal for our family of three with bunks and a cozy cot. The communal kitchen was a huge plus, and we loved ending each day with a hot shower, a fire, and some serious coziness. Our host was a truly lovely person — warm and welcoming. Wish we had more time to chat! The location was pure magic: tucked in the forest, close to a beautiful river and trails. So much to do in the area — we’ll definitely be back!

Tom was great and his campground is neat. I stayed at site Tent 14 in my car and it was very quiet. The power was an added bonus. I did not use any of the outbuildings, so I cannot comment about those. I would definitely stay here again. Tom, hope you had fun on your new bike! Many happy rides in the future.

The property was very easy to find, beautiful and was great to have a community building! Even though I was in my camper, it was so great to use the kitchen and meet fellow people! Also, being able to take a shower was a bonus! Would love to come back here next time I am in the area!

It is a wonderful little gathering of cabins, rv sites, and tent sites. The community building has a stocked kitchen, bathrooms, and space to hang out. It would be a great place to gather with friends, new and old, to enjoy one of the puzzles or board games that are there.

It was a great time at Valhalla Pines. Tom was super welcoming and knowledgeable about a lot to do in the area. Will definitely recommend this to anyone looking to really unwind in the Slocan Valley as our group of four had a wonderful time tent camping and exploring the area.
