Valhalla Pines Tree Hut

This is a special place — my second time at Valhalla Pines. The Tree Hut was such a peaceful pit stop on my bike tour. Great energy and Tom was so accommodating in relation to being delayed. The Slocan Valley is a wonderful place and this property is a part of a lovely community - “May the forest be with you.”

It is very lovely here. I had a very good experience with Tom. A very grounded and good caring man with his dog Sophy:) I would personally recommend it:) The facilities provided by him are very clean. All in all 9.63 out of 10 (how you would rate it in modern days by numbers)

We spent four days at Valhalla Pines Campground and enjoyed our stay. It's a peaceful, quiet campground in a rustic forest setting—a great place to slow down, unplug, and relax. The community building was a wonderful amenity with books, cooking supplies, and other thoughtful touches. They even had a French press available after we broke ours the first day! The bathrooms and showers were clean. The hosts were kind, knowledgeable, and always available if we needed anything. Everyone we met—guests, neighbors, and others throughout the Slocan Valley—was genuinely friendly and welcoming. One unexpected highlight was the drinking water available to guests. Sourced from local aquifers, it tasted amazing. Save your $$$—no bottled water needed here! 🚰 We also appreciated Valhalla Pines' commitment to sustainability. The hosts make it easy to sort compost, recycling, cardboard, paper, cans, and trash. One thing to note is that the campground isn't directly on the river. We love camping by the water, so that was disappointing at first. That was our mistake for not looking more closely before booking. The beautiful Slocan River is only a short drive away, with a great swimming hole and beach. By the end of our stay, Valhalla Pines had really grown on us, and we appreciated its peaceful setting and warm hospitality.

Tent Site 3 for multiple tents

We only stayed for a night so I can't mention much about activities near by but we were slightly let down because we like to have a bit of privacy and we felt very exposed to neighbors, host and other campers. The pictures ofnour spot were deceiving. The highlight was the common house. It had everything you would need to cook or store food and to even take a break indoors on a hammock was a nice touch. Easy to locate and host provided great written directions.

I loved this campsite! I would highly recommend this to any of my friends. It is great for introductory camping and Tom has you covered in terms of amenities, advice about exploring, and overall is very welcoming! Thank you for a great stay!

What a beautiful place. The directions to the camp were spot on. The site was lovely and large enough for our 6 man tent. Great shower. Great amenities and wonderful host. Would stay again and would recommend. Host was so welcoming.

Tom’s property is laid out well, the sites are nicely spaced apart. It was overall very peaceful, we would stay again! Lots of info available for hiking in the shared space, if we were staying longer we definitely would’ve checked one of them out.

Valhalla Pines is perfect

Valhalla Pines Campground was a bit of a mystery as I approached my three nights of camping there. It looked good online, but the real experience of being there was fabulous. Quiet, remote, peaceful, with all the comforts of home like the Community building where you can join friends for a meal, happily cleanse with a hot shower, and even a dish washing area that is so convenient. The area is packed with wildlife - I saw a herd of elk cross the highway, saw turkey families by the dozens, observed Osprey's fish the river, and even glimpsed a big ol' black bear rambling across the road into Nelson. And the lovely town of Nelson is only 30 minutes away. I heartily recommend visitors try out Valhalla Pines Campground. Host Tom has built a very warm, inviting oasis that is good for the soul. And you will definitely be as entranced as I was with Sophia, the big, gentle-souled Black Lab/Malamute queen of the campground. Enjoy.

Beautiful, quiet and peaceful location. After days of Adventure riding in the back-country of British Columbia, we needed a place to be refreshed and restored and that is what we found at Valhalla Pines. Showers, a cabin (with an amazing bed), and fully equipped kitchen with excellent WiFi to catch up on messages. Our host Lindy, was kind and accommodating. If you are look for rest and retreat this is your place.

This camping spot is very unique. We had tent site 3 among the trees, large and very private. Very near to the common building with flush toilets and showers. It also was a great place to hang out, replenish battery of our phones, use fully equipped kitchen. The owner is super nice and helpful. Wood is available to buy and we had great campfires. There is no data in the area but there is wifi so we used whatsapp to contact family. If you want to discover this area (slocan, Nelson, rail trail), this is a great choice.

Tent Site 14 with power

Tom’s camp was in a quiet, dark area, and centrally located. It had all the amenities we needed, and the community building was a great place to meet others and research the next day’s adventure with his guidebooks. With Tom’s advice we were able to enjoy some great swimming holes, and paddle boarding locations. Looking forward to coming again and exploring the hikes in the mountains. Thanks Tom.

It was a good campsite, we got there a little late and Google maps takes you to the wrong address. You gotta go up a different road, but once we got there it was good. Tom was good, he showed us around even though it was dark. We were just there for the night and left early morning but he had tons of amenities and wifi.

We had an EXCELLENT stay at Vahalla Pines Campground! Our host, Tom, made the stay extra special. Tom shared a lot of super interesting local history and gave us some great tips for stunning swimming holes in the area. He also gave us detailed information about floating the Slocan river, including where to put in/out. We had paddle boards and thoroughly enjoyed the absolutely pristine water while paddling and swimming on a hot day. The Vahalla Pines Campground is tucked in the woods off route 6, so it's a nice location midway between Nelson, Castlegar and points to the north. We stayed at 'Site 14 with Power' and it was *perfect* for us. We were nestled in a circle of pine trees with beautiful star viewing overhead. The site was private, quiet and very peaceful. I really appreciate the "lights out by 10pm" rule, because that makes star viewing extra special. We are inspired to visit again and have a longer stay, I highly recommend Vahalla Pines Campground! * Be sure to get detailed driving directions because there is no internet service on most of rt. 6; the Wifi at camp is excellent, which was helpful for planning day trips. ** If you like art: be sure to tour the Murals all over Nelson and visit Castlegar, "The Sculpture Capital of Canada", both were outstanding!

Tent Site 5 - with shelter

Everything! Quite safe and clean. The host was my favorite camp experience of my entire life and I camp often. He even put in outdoor showers and kept the compost toilets cleaned and emptied on a daily basis if not more often. This camp is always fully booked for a reason. It’s centrally located (close to Nelson) and many music venues and restaurants. The fully furnished community building with a washer and dryer and two refrigerators is also a plus. My favorite spot is always tent site 3. Really enjoyed drinking coffee and conversations about life and travel with my fellow traveler and Thomas (Tom). Going to miss him!
