Weekend Trip to Wombat Pines - Private Camping

Wombat Pines was an absolute dream location, far away enough from everything but also close enough to everything! So quiet and peaceful a great place to get away from the crowds on the Easter long weekend! Couldn’t recommend enough! Camping amongst the pines with a fire each night was a dream, my family all had such a great time, Luke is super friendly 😁 would come back here in a heartbeat !

Weekend Trip to "Duck Downs" Snowy Mountains

180 degree views over snowy valley plains with a backdrop of mountains. Wide Horizons a good site for taking this in. Up high, perched on a hillside. Circular site on a slight lean, but rv blocks easily levelled this out. A little windy as would be expected being up on a hill but this dropped with the sun. No shade if that is what you need but a very well maintained site. Short walks along the hillside past the other sites, all well spread out. Good communication and a nice load of wood provided at a cost for the fire pit. Great spot for sundowners and two very friendly visiting white pups 🐶

6 nights at "Duck Downs" Snowy Mountains

Awesome area. Lots of space, quiet amd peaceful. Its a little dry, but that could have been tobthe season. The owners are easy to talk to and the amount of firewood that was provided with each purchase was way beyond belief. Definatelly would be back for an another visit

3 nights at Jacarry Rocks

We loved our three nights at Jacarry Rocks. It was a good base for exploring Jindabyne, Thredbo and Charlotte Pass. The site was quiet and peaceful, we saw lots of wildlife. Sinikka and Justin were very welcoming and super helpful when we had a bit of an issue with power.

5 nights at Creal's Rest

We had the best time camping at Creals Rest. It's SO peaceful, the kids had a ball running around the paddock, swinging in the hammock, roasting marshmallows by the fire, pottering around in the creek, feeding the alpacas, bouncing on the trampoline and just being kids outside from morning until night! The space is so lovely and peaceful and 20-30 mins drive from Tumbarumba, gorgeous waterfalls (Paddys Falls), swimming spots (Paddys Flats), fishing spots (Mannus lake), and so many kangaroos to be seen within a 5 min drive! We had such a lovely time and Craig and Tatjana couldn't have been more helpful, would highly highly recommend to anyone looking at hipcamping here!!!

1 night at "Duck Downs" Snowy Mountains

It was a great camp! Close enough to Jindabyne to be able to explore there throughout the day. Hosts were lovely. Sites were closer than expected but we had it all to ourselves and it was great. Working toilet and absolute incredible views of the valley. Would stay again

3 nights at "Duck Downs" Snowy Mountains

Lovely, peaceful location. Fairly private as other campers were out of site. The paddock is quite exposed to the elements, but as long as you have a warm jacket and sufficient tie downs for windy nights, you get to take advantage of the views that come with it. The road to Jindabyne is easy and beautiful scenery all around.

We've been to plenty of HipCamps during our lap, but this one just ticked all the boxes, even though it wasn't winter there was so much to do in the camp and surrounds. Highly recommend this spot if you are considering a good base to check out Kosciuszko and all of the surrounds. 2 nights at Nariel Creek Farm Stay

The Shelter was perfect for our get away. We had 7 adults, 3 cars, 2 cans and a camper trailer and there was ample room for us all. A sheltered area to sit under with a shower and toilet. Fire pits and fire wood provided. Exclusive to us. 25 min drive to Corryong. Loved our time here and the foothills of the VIC high country

Weekend Trip to Wombat Pines - Private Camping

Absolutely stunning property made even better by being the only one there. Wasn’t lucky enough to spot a wallaby but did see an echidna, many wallabies and some lovely birds. The stream is quite a hike away, but worth the stroll. I made it easily with my Toyota Tarago. Definitely follow Luke’s directions.

1 night at Creal's Rest

Amazing place to stay. So quiet with a lovely host. We fed the Alpacas and got some delicious figs for the road. Will definitely stay again if we ever pass back through.

Weekend Trip to Aroona Park

Beautiful spot with very well spaced campsites. Sadly we didn't spot any platypuses but plentiful firewood available which meant fabulous campfires. We were in a tent and on our second day the weather became showery but we still managed to enjoy the feel of the place and being right on the river. We were the only campers there so really had the run of the place to ourselves. Given the very positive reviews we had read about the hosts we were somewhat surprised and disappointed not to be met and greeted, nor checked on nor farewelled so we didn't actually meet Ashleigh. All previous communication with her was promptly responded to but my farewell message of thanks wasn't even acknowledged.

4 nights at Bimbimbi River Camp

Very much enjoyed our trip to big bend. Has great scenery and is a very nice property to relax by the river. Views to the snowy’s in the background. Lots of stars to look at in the night sky and bird life to wake up to in the morning. Ian and Olga were lovely hosts. Great place to make a base camp to explore the wider area!

Weekend Trip to Bimbimbi River Camp

Camping at Bimbimbi was a real treat, camp site 2 was even, clean and close to the river. Ian was welcoming with some practical tips for our stay. We were planning an excursion from the site but couldn't drag ourselves away. Sites are private and well spaced and managed. We will be back for sure.

2 nights at Bimbimbi River Camp

The Fishing Hole was a great spot with so much space and completely private. Easy access to the river with a beach so you can walk straight in. The fire pit was great and there’s plenty of firewood around that you can help yourself to. Lovely surrounding scenery and would be great to canoe down the river!

Weekend Trip to Samsons Gully

Had a great stay over two nights. Really beautiful spot, and very private. Having the creek running by made it really relaxing. Plenty of room and access for our 20ft caravan. The hosts checked on us to see if everything was OK, and to let them know if we needed anything. It's now become one of our favourite spots and will definitely be back.

10 nights at Bimbimbi River Camp

Can't help myself giving a good review again for this wonderful part of Australia and Ian as the best host. Our second visit confirms to us that we were right the first time about this place. Without going on too much let me just sum it up in a few words. Well maintained site, privacy, wildlife, great night skies, great fishing , great swimming, wonderful views, close to Corryong 20 mins and good weather. Already re - booked next year. Our dog loves it too. 😃🐕

Great place to camp on the upper Murray river. Only 5 different camping areas so plenty of space between sites. Caught a couple of beautiful Murray Cod and a few mud marlins. Thanks Ian and Olga. Hopefully we will be back soon.

"Duck Downs" Snowy Mountains

Rolling hills, Quite still. Few trees, Much to see. Many granite rocks, Like sheep in flocks. Natural sounds, At ‘Duck Downs’. T.J Wilson We have 3 remote sites and 3 dispersed sites and the property is six kilometers from Dalgety township which is situated on the “Snowy River” NSW. We are located 30 minutes drive south east of Jindabyne and 40 minutes drive south west of Cooma. There is a flush toilet and fresh drinking water is available at our dispersed sites. Caravans can easily be filled up via garden hose and if you are staying on one of the remote sites this can be done easily prior to settling in. We have a mowed loop track giving easy access from each site to stroll to the top of the hill, walk the dog or enjoy the 360 degree views. Take a picnic in the evening or just a glass of wine and watch the sunset from the top of the hill. After dark, relax and toast some marshmallows over the fire pit and discuss what you are going to do the next day. The land was originally once a part of "Marranumbla Homestead". I have called it home since 1995 and now share it with my partner Phillip, our son, Danish the Whippet, Murphy the Malshi, Myonie the Moodle and Finley the cat. The house yard only had 2 trees when I bought it and the house built originally in 1980 still needed completing on the inside. I have worked hard to create an extensive garden in a sometimes harsh environment. It's our peaceful part of the "Snowy Monaro", the property being 155 acres in total. A great place to wander and breath in the fresh air. In Dalgety township you can have a meal and catch up with a local at the "Buckley's Crossing Hotel" or take a walk around the show ground, town and along the river reserve where you can have a swim and relax on the riverbank and view the historic Dalgety Bridge circa 1888 across the Snowy River. Then come back in the evening to look for platypus when they come out to play. Visit the local 'Snowy Vineyard and Microbrewery' incorporating the 'Dalgety Brewing Company' situated approximately 10km north of the town on the Snowy River or have lunch at 'Tuscany in Dalgety' 2km to the west of town. Take a trip to Jindabyne which is half an hours drive to the west, walk round the lake, visit the 'Jindabyne Brewery', great food, beer, cider and wine or the many other restaurants and cafes in town. Spend some time at the 'Snowy Region Visitor Centre' and the 'Gaden Trout Hatchery' or catch your own trout in the lake or at the 'Eucumbene Trout Farm'. Travel beyond into the mountains and Kosciusko National Park to Thredbo, Perisher Valley and Charlottes Pass. Explore the many walks in the national park including the walk to the top of Mt Kosciusko. Visit the 'Wild Brumby Distillery' enjoy some European fare and locally crafted Schnapps, Gin, Vodka or Gluhwein. Take a day trip through Adaminaby to 'Yarrangobilly Caves and Thermal Pool' in the northern end of Kosciusko National Park, picnic, swim and tour the caves. Visit the "Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and Café in Cooma and learn the history of the scheme. The Centre houses a comprehensive exhibition hall including an extensive photographic collection, models, hands-on exhibits and a one of a kind immersive theatre. You will find information about the Scheme such as engineering, the environment, the National Electricity Market, history, water management and power generation. Make it your base camp while enjoying all that the winter season has to offer and lets not forget the skiing and snow boarding of course. Well that's just a sample of some of the things you can do but if all that sounds like too much, just put your feet up and have a rest at your campsite!! P.S. The annual Dalgety Show is held on the first Sunday in March every year and did you know that Dalgety was one of the sites considered for our country's capital. Telstra 4G coverage on the property, limited Optus coverage.

Bimbimbi River Camp

Bimbimbi is located at the free flowing, clear beginning of the Murray River, at Tintaldra. We have 5 separate sites. Each site is for a single group, so you know you will only have yourselves in close proximity. Each site has access to the river, although The Fishing Hole, River Red Gums and The Big Bend have better access than The Willows and The Old Pump Hole. Swimming, fishing for Murray Cod, hiking along the river bank (we have 3km of frontage), bird watching, relaxing are typical things to do here. Or, if you are more adventurous, borrow our canoes and do a down river trip, or go for a longer hike up Pine Mountain in the Pine Mountain National Park. Or, bring your mountain or road bikes and do some cycling on the picturesque roads and trails. The Big Bend is the most open camping site suitable for larger groups. Access to the river for swimming is good. This site is accessible to 2-wheel drive vehicles. The Fishing Hole is our most remote location, accessible during the summer by high clearance 2-wheel drive vehicles but 4-wheel drive is highly recommended. There is good access to the river here for swimming. This site is clothing optional. You are basically on your own in a remote place. Wear whatever you like, including nothing at all. River Red Gums is a single campsite, also remote and primitive, accessible by high clearance 2-wheel drive vehicles during dry weather. Again, 4 wheel drive is recommended. Access to the river is easy and the bank slopes gently down making it a great place for swimming. This site is also clothing optional. The Old Pump Hole is upstream of all the other camp sites. It is the easiest to access. Most vehicles will get to this site. The bank here is steeper so swimming is not as easy. However, always improvising, campers at this location jump in here with their li-los, inner tubes and other flotation devices and float down to The Big Bend, get out and then come back and do it again. This is an area set on a small hill overlooking the river, as shown in the photos. The Willows, our newest site, is between The Big Bed and River Red Gums, set under the shade of some willows a few metres from the river bank. The bank here is also steep, but again, campers can hop into the river here and float down to River Red Gums, or walk either to River Red Gums or The Big Bend for swimming. The Willows is also clothing optional. The campsites are well spaced out, with a minimum of 200 metres between the nearest two locations. In fact, it either impossible or very difficult to see anyone else at the other camp sites from your own camp site. Each camp site is accessible via its own track, so you won't have other vehicles driving past your camp site. We have a Leave No Trace policy, please take all rubbish with you. (This also means not throwing bottles, cans, bottle tops, aluminium foil and other non-biodegradable items into the camp fire.) Dogs are allowed, but please keep them under control, particularly if near cattle. Campfires are allowed only in braziers provided, when fire bans are not in place. You can gather your own firewood or purchase firewood from us (see "Extras"). Please arrive before dark if you haven't been here before. It is difficult to understand a new camp site in the dark. We provide a toilet at each location, for your convenience and the cleanliness of the camp site in general. Nothing but your human deposit and toilet paper in the toilet please. No disposable wipes, nappies etc. Please put these in your trash. Also, bring your drone but use it only over locations that are not occupied. We have canoes to borrow and seasonal produce is available from the garden. And, again, wood for purchase if you don't want to gather your own. Please see "Extras"

Aroona Park

Watch the calves running around, explore the bush tracks, sit by the creek, fish and enjoy the serenity! With 4 private campsites bordering the creek Aroona Park can cater to almost any size party; whether you’re camping solo, a couple on a bush getaway or a group looking for lots of space to spread out, our sites are perfectly positioned to ensure you feel like you’re all alone! WILDLIFE: All manner of birdlife, wombats, possums, wallabies, kangaroos, foxes, deer, water rats, platypus and trout. We are happy to point you toward the best places to see deer feeding and wallowing, fox cubs playing and platypus swimming. FARM: This is a functioning farm; there are cows and calves most of the year. Our cows are very friendly and curious, and whilst we endeavour to keep them away from the campsite, sometimes they can't help themselves! EXPLORING: Our property joins onto State Forest, which can be explored at guests own risk, once you set foot off our property, Hipcamp no longer insures against injury etc. Within our property, we have bush tracks, animal trails and a trickling stream running through a beautiful, shallow gorge, where many adventures have been had! WATER PLAY: Our sites make the most of the creek flowing through the property; Creek Ford and Shady Shallows have the best water access and are especially great for kids. Please be mindful of children around water, an adult must be present at all times. CAMPFIRES: Who doesn't love a good campfire?! We have numerous fire pits at the campsites that are there to be used. No chainsaws are to be used on the property, as per Hipcamps insurance policy. There is plenty of wood around that you are welcome to collect yourselves, otherwise, we can supply loads of wood for $50 (enough for a campfire over a long weekend). SETTING UP CAMP: Please be mindful of where you choose to set up your camp. While we endeavour to keep the sites as safe as possible, some hazards include; trees and limbs falling, snakes and thistles. TRACK CONDITION The track to the campsite is bumpy and needs to be driven slowly, we have had a 22ft caravan towed by a 100 series set up here with no troubles. FIREARMS: as per Hipcamps insurance policy, no firearms are to be used on the property. We understand that State Forest attracts hunting, which we are all for, however, we ask you to respect our wishes and keep all firearms legally stored while you are on our property. Do speak to us for some local knowledge about great hunting spots! WHAT'S AROUND? BENAMBRA is a small, remote farming community 15 minutes from the property. There you will find a post office and general store, a small playground, public toilets and a great pub open for beautiful meals and cold beers Tues-Sun nights! OMEO is about 30 minutes from the property, where there is a state-of-the-art pump track, brand new mountain bike trails, two pubs, a bakery, plenty of cafes/eateries, Foodworks, hardware supplies and a camping and fishing shop. Speak to us about local attractions and things to do in this historic area!

The Witches Garden at Mitta Mitta

Our Callaghan Creek unpowered campsite is large enough for a big group and has access to water and shade. We also offer a large farmhouse located across the creek from the campsite which we offer on Air BNB so if you plan a big getaway with friends and some are not keen campers then our guest house might be a perfect option. It is a short walk through a ford in the creek from the camp site. Mobile phone coverage is possible if you are with Telstra as there is a Telstra tower not far away. Our Callaghan Creek camp is in a secluded and very pretty spot on our farm. Access is via a dirt track across paddocks and down a short steep slope to the creek. Children are welcome but must be supervised at all times as farms can be dangerous places. There are large animals, snakes and deep water. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are allowed. All campers must have their own camping toilet and be self-contained.

Samsons Gully

It has been a few years since we stopped hosting campers at Samsons Gully, but we're back and looking forward to meeting new and old friends. Samsons Gully is a working cattle farm nestled in a stunning private valley. If you are after peace and tranquillity this is where you will find it. We have a national park on one side of us, and the Cudgewa Creek flowing along our front boundary. The property is perfect for mountain biking, bushwalking, fishing or just plain relaxing. The favourite camp site is on the banks of the Cudgewa Creek. However, there are plenty of places to camp in the bush for those wanting more seclusion. Samsons Gully is a perfect base to explore the Upper Murray. 20 minutes away is Corryong where there is an IGA, service stations, dump point, Dr and hospital, pubs and cafes. 10 minutes away is the Cudgewa pub who do dinner Wednesday through to Sunday evenings. Our property suits fully self contained campers only as there is not toilet or shower. Dogs and horses are welcome but must be well behaved and kept close to your camp site as this is a working cattle property. Due to council regulations we can only open one site up at a time. This ensures that your time here will be exclusive, peaceful and private.

Overview

Found in the heart of Kosciuszko National Park, Thredbo provides seasonal sports year-round. The park falls within the Snowy Mountains Region, bringing some of Australia’s best skiing and snowboarding to the Thredbo-Perisher area. Cruise the fresh-packed flurries in winter and try rock climbing and abseiling in summer. Dive deep underground into the Yarrangobilly area’s cave system and get cosy in the natural thermal pool. The Lower Snowy River area produces more fun with whitewater-rafting tours and thrilling mountain-biking trails. Campers will find an abundance of accommodations to spoil them throughout Thredbo, from historic rental houses and heated lodges filled with creature comforts to remote campgrounds with picturesque views.

Where to go

Thredbo-Perisher area

This area has three mountain resorts: Thredbo, Perisher, and Charlotte Pass. Skiing, snowshoeing, and ice climbing take over in winter, and alpine hikes, mountain biking, and historic sightseeing reign supreme in spring, summer, and fall. Stay in a luxurious lodge featuring an indoor fireplace, TVs, a fully equipped kitchen, fresh bed linens, and views of Lake Jindabyne. Or opt for a charming cottage with full bathrooms, outdoor furniture to lounge on, and AC to keep cool on hot days. Tent campers and caravanners can also find multiple campgrounds offering toilets, picnic tables, and BBQ facilities.

Yarrangobilly area

The biggest highlight of this area is Yarrangobilly Caves—six lofty limestone caverns that make an unforgettable experience, whether viewed on a guided tour or explored solo. Come back above ground and warm up with a dip in the natural thermal pool. Anglers can easily drop in a line when staying in riverside campgrounds with picnic tables, BBQs, and toilets. They welcome swags, tents, camper trailers, and caravans. Or rent a guest room in a heritage home with electricity, a kitchen, full bathroom, and a lengthy porch for sipping coffee.

Lower Snowy River area

Get wet and wild on a whitewater-rafting adventure, conquer a cross-country mountain-bike tour, or head to scenic lookouts with valley views when visiting the Snowy River area. Several campgrounds are on-site and have pitches for swags, tents, and camper trailers, but bigger motorhomes need to find accommodation elsewhere. Standard amenities like picnic tables, BBQ areas, and toilets are common, but more remote campgrounds have rugged settings. Keep an eye out for wallabies, ‘roos, and emus that wander around throughout the day.

When to go

July and August have the best snowpack in Thredbo. When spring arrives in November, colourful wildflowers and fresh foliage transform the snowy landscape. Combined with slightly cooler temperatures, it’s a great season for hiking, biking, and sightseeing. The hotter summer weather makes that a prime time for getting soaked from head to toe on a whitewater-rafting tour or lounging on a lilo in the Snowy River. As autumn approaches and the temperatures cool off again, anglers can cast rods for the last time before the cold sets in.
