Retreat to Granite Springs Farmstay

11 sites · RVs, Tents80 acres · Chiltern, VIC
Situated in the beautiful locale of Chiltern in northeast Victoria, Granite Springs is located on 80 flat acres with underlying springs and a creek running through the property, and it’s very conveniently situated just a few minutes off the Hume Highway! You can choose to camp privately amongst the native trees or next to the big pond- sit on the jetty and take in the birds, trees and wild life, have a swim to cool down on hot days, toast marshmallows around a campfire, walk along the creek that runs through the property, or just sit by the little waterfall with your feet in the water listening to the water gurgling through the granite stones and allow the stress of life to drift away. Or if you prefer, you can participate in a true farm stay experience! Stay near the original farmhouse, choose a powered site, book a Meet, Greet & Feed tour and join us on a feed run to feed the horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens and guinea fowl, enjoy watching the baby animals frolicking (depending on when you stay), get up close and personal to pat and feed some of the animals, collect the eggs, see the dairy goats being milked; and if you wish you can partake in an evening bbq meal with us on the deck and enjoy an evening filled with great food, hospitality and laughter. Should you wish to make it an even deeper experience, you could book in for a reiki session with a qualified and accredited Reiki Master (with or without the animals assisting!) or an Equine Assisted Transformation session... this is the perfect location for those who are energy sensitive and who wish to deepen their connection with the land, nature and themselves, or who feel the need for some healing or clearing work. If you wish, you may pre-order a basket filled with a selection of local produce and goodies for your stay (please note that we require 48 hours notice on some basket selections) So many choices, and you can mix and match to create your perfect camping getaway with as much or as little interaction with the animals or other people as you wish to experience! You can even bring your own 4 legged friends- well behaved dogs are welcome provided they are kept restrained at all times. Less than 3 hours drive from Melbourne, the property is conveniently located within minutes of local shops and Chiltern- Mount Pilot National Park, 10 minutes from the popular town of Rutherglen, 20 minutes from the Murray River, Beechworth and Corowa, 25 minutes from Wangaratta and Albury-Wodonga, 40 minutes from Mount Buffalo… this is a popular location to strike out into the high country from and is very popular with cyclists, hikers and nature enthusiasts alike. Hiking, cycling, nature watching, birdwatching, visiting local sites to see Aboriginal Art, panning for gold at local rivers, berry picking at nearby farms, trail riding… there is so much to do and explore in the local area! Or just come to relax, recharge your batteries and spend some time quality time reconnecting with yourself and/or loved ones Please note: * At this stage, you will need to be fully self contained with your own cooking facilities, toilet, shower and potable water for most of the sites. *There will be some areas that you cannot go on the property due to animals being housed there, and electric fencing is used throughout the property. So please read and follow the signs, stick to the areas designated for public use, always use the gates (and if you open a gate, please close it behind you) and be mindful of the fences. If in doubt, DON’T touch the fence! Or if you do, make sure someone is videoing it and please post it on the Facebook page!! NB- If you would like to explore, then please book a farm tour with us to see the whole property and experience meeting the animals up close and personal. * Campfires in the designated fire pits are welcome, but ARE NOT permitted on days of high fire risk or Total Fire Ban days. You may collect twigs and branches from the ground, but please don’t break or cut branches off trees. Bags of pre-cut wood are available to purchase as an extra or upon request. Please ensure that all fires are completely out before leaving them unattended. * While we welcome your furry family members, we do require them to be well behaved and on a lead at all times. We have a zero tolerance policy for dogs chasing farm animals or being excessively disruptive, and any such behaviour will result in you forfeiting your payment and being asked to leave immediately. You are welcome to walk your dog on lead throughout the designated public areas on the property and along the roadside and surrounding trails. If you wish to visit local areas where dogs can’t be taken, you can book your furry friend in to be dog-sat here on the property while you go out exploring. * As this is a farm, and is surrounded by other farms, there may be farm noises like dogs barking, sheep baa-ing , cows moo-ing, horses neighing, Guinea fowl squawking, and/or Belle the Needy Noisy Nubian Dairy Goat calling for her feed (or rug if it’s cold!) We endeavour to provide a peaceful environment, and this is generally a lovely quiet location which more than fulfils our own personal requirements for an undisturbed lifestyle, and will no doubt do so for the vast majority of campers. But we can’t guarantee it will always be completely silent during the day or at night- especially if the lambs or calves or foals are being weaned from their mothers! Ear plugs are available for light sleepers if required. And if you are an extremely noise sensitive person or someone who wants a private camping experience with no noise or neighbouring houses visible, this may not be the right spot for you (if this is you, we would recommend looking for a more remote stay on a large acreage which will provide you with a more private experience) * And while on the topic- if partying late into the night with loud music, a thumping base on your sound system and extremely raucous singing and laughter is your thing, then this is not the right camping spot for you. While we are all for socialising and having fun, if you want to party loudly into the wee hours we would suggest finding a camping spot far away from neighbouring properties where the sound doesn’t carry for miles across the land. Please be mindful of us, our neighbours and others nearby who may be trying to relax or sleep, and keep noise to a respectful level after the sun has set. TIA for your understanding * We want your stay to be relaxing and enjoyable, so please contact us if you need anything or have any issues and we will be happy to help in whatever way we can :)

Camping near Bright guide

Overview

The picturesque, historic town of Bright, in the heart of Victoria’s High Country, offers a diverse, action-packed getaway: great restaurants, breweries and wineries, plus walking and biking trails. Bright is also the starting point for the popular Murray to Mountains Rail Trail. During Autumn, the township’s oaks, elms, poplars and Japanese maples explode into colour. Campers to the area are spoilt for choice. The 230-kilometre Bogong Alpine Way loops through Bright, as well as Mount Beauty, Falls Creek and over Dinner Plain and Mount Hotham. Holiday parks closer to town cater well to families, with caravan sites and cabins, while elsewhere, bush camping is at specified sites within Buckland Valley State Forest, Mount Buffalo National Park and Alpine National Park.

National Parks

Bright is a useful base for exploring Mount Buffalo National Park and Alpine National Park as well as Mount Hotham, a popular ski resort, and the nearby alpine village of Dinner Plain. Mount Buffalo National Park is a magnet for nature freaks and adventurers. The unique rock formations are perfect for climbers and alpine fun includes hiking, cycling and fly fishing. Winter brings cross-country ski trails. Mount Buffalo has two remote hike-in camping experiences, plus Lake Catani campground that is suitable for caravans and campervans, as well as tent campsites (it’s BYO water here).

Local towns: Harrietville, Porepunkah, Myrtleford, and Wandiligong

A range of attractive High Country hamlets, former gold-mining settlements, surround Bright and all are within a half hour drive or less. Harrietville sits at the base of the Victorian Alps. Like Bright, the town’s draw card is the blast of colours of autumnal foliage. Local cuisine and wine are special to Mytleford, a half hour north of Bright. Here, Ardern's Caravan Park has a handy access to the local biking route, the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail. A 6km walking trail connects Bright to Wandiligong, a former gold-mining settlement with quaint, historic buildings. Wandiligong Camping Ground is a relaxed spot surrounded by tree ferns and set on a creek. Tiny Porepunkah, only six kilometres from Bright, offers big things for campers: three holiday parks.

When to go

Bright is lovely at any time of year, especially in Autumn when the leaves turn (the Australian Fall foliage). Winter (June to August) brings freezing temperatures and snow, especially in the national parks and alpine regions of Mount Buffalo.

Know before you go

  • Reserve ahead in Autumn, especially on weekends, when the hoards arrive to see the Autumnal leaves (fall foliage).
  • You may need to book while regional events take place. These include: the Mansfield Lantern Festival (June), the Beechworth Harvest Celebration (May), the Rutherglen Winery Walkabout and King Valley Balloon Festival (the Queen's Birthday weekend in June), and the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues (November).
