Black Hills National Forest—located on the far west side of South Dakota—is no doubt one of the state’s most magical parks. With craggy cliffs, dense forests, and the big blue sky overhead, Black Hills is truly spectacular. This park is particularly known for its jaw-dropping geographic formations, including the Devils Tower Monument, the Needles, and the Badlands Wilderness. Did we mention that Black Hills also houses the epic and totally legendary Mount Rushmore? Yep, that’s right—you can see some of the most incredible spots in all of South Dakota right here. Besides sightseeing, wander through the 111-mile Centennial Trail that winds through the forest, pitch a tent in the dozens of campsites, or even get in touch with your historic side and do some old school gold panning. It’s worth noting that Black Hills hosts midnight hikes during the summer months—the Black Hills Moon Walks—which are popular interpretative programs held during the full moon. There’s no question that Black Hills National Forest offers a totally magnificent outdoor experience.
