Our family homestead is right at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Wild rivers, waterfalls and hundreds of trails are 20-30 minutes "up the mountain". Here on the farm, we have 64 acres of mostly woods. Lots of room out there to see nobody! If you're interested in homesteading, prepping or life in the 1800s in general, you're in the right place. We love learning how our grandparents did things everyday, then sharing that with other folks. Our water is solar powered, but our house is wood heated. We tend to be a conundrum. But life is never dull and we love company! Y'all come!
While we are a working farm, with fields, gardens and livestock; we also provide opportunities for folks to come and stay. Our cottage is fully equipped with all the comforts of home. The RV sites are full service, with 50amp power, solar pumped well water, a real septic system and wifi. If you'd like a more rustic environment, our tiny houses in the woods may be just what you're looking for. They have solar pumped water, hot showers, compost toilets and small generators to charge phones, etc. Each little house sleeps 4. If you prefer tent camping, we have two options. Our cabin tents actually have wood floors and metal roofs, full camp kitchens, compost toilets, bunk cots and even wood stoves for winter. Add a hot shower and a fire pit and you're set to have a good time! But if you really like to rough it, our primitive campsites up on the back ridge may be just your style. A fire ring and a compost "outhouse" add just a touch of civilization. But don't worry, the coyotes and wild turkeys will still come and visit:)
If you're interested in homesteading, prepping for emergencies or farm animals; we enjoy talking with guests. You can even help with chores, if you like - many hands make light work. We have pastured, heritage animal breeds of beef cows, chickens, dairy goats and pigs . Our latest project is building a smokehouse to cold smoke beef and pork. Then in August, we're getting two draft horses and a wagon. There's always something interesting going on around here!
