Sprawling dunes, expansive marshes, dark oak forests. What’s not to love about this 4,160-acre park? Well, maybe the summer mosquitoes, but really, you’ll find those everywhere. Illinois Beach State Park encompasses the only remaining beach ridge shoreline left in the state. It’s a dream for recreation enthusiasts, bird watchers, and photographers alike.

So, what does a perfect day at Illinois Beach State Park look like? First, you’ve got to bike the Zion Bike Trail along the shore. Next, a relaxing swim in Lake Michigan, followed by a nap on the sandy beach. Finally, head to your spacious campsite to grill up your favorite camp fare and socialize with the friendliest campers around. Fishing and boating are big here too, so be sure to visit North Shore Marina to rent a boat or dock your own.
