From am Italian Circus Family, James performed as a Rosinback rider (Rosinback Riding Definition- The art of standing on the back of a horse and accomplishing maneuvers such as pirouettes and summersaults on a galloping horse. Throughout his 20’s and 30’s, he and his family traveled extensively across America and Canada, performing with Circuses, Rodeos, Horse Shows, and various other events.
As a boy growing up on his family’s cattle ranch in the tiny town Souper, Oklahoma, James made his own bows, arrows, and spears. He practiced his marksmanship at various targets to occupy his free time. Whether recreational riding, training, raising or performing with horses, they have always been an important part of his life.
In the early 80’s, James began presenting Jousting Shows at Renaissance Fairs in addition to Rosinback riding. In later years, this led to the formation of the American Jousting Alliance, and presenting local, regional, and international Medieval Jousting Competitions.
Zoppe began working with young people in 2005 at his Lockwood Valley Facility. This has led to a variety of different things, focused on teaching Kids outdoor activities, rules of safety, awareness and appreciation of nature, various sports and practical skills.
