Site 2 Tent Site- Tilden Hill Farm
in Tilden Hill Farm, New YorkBetter for rvers
Ken is a great guy who has done a ton of work improving his family property. The RV sites are nicely set up. I liked that the tent sites were out of the sun in the woods, but the tubing set up to collect maple sap made me feel a little hemmed in...
Way Out
in Three Ponds Community, Oklahomabeautiful property, great introduction to Oklahoma.
40 - Limestone Echo
in C2T Ranch on the Saline River, KansasStill in kansas, but oz-some
friendly host, well-equipped site, amazing view of the cliffs opposite (we were at site 40). if you are hoping to splash a little in the summer heat, best water access is the next site down. very sad not to have more time here.
Site 4 - McCully Heritage Project
in McCully Heritage Project, IllinoisNo complaints
bathrooms lived up to the glowing reviews. I was happy I opted for site 4 - a lot of recent rain left the other 3 sites (in a row next to a tiny stream) kinda swampy., site 4 was up a little rise, offering dry toes and (had there been guests at the other sites) additional privacy.
sadly we got in late and had to push on the next morning, so were nbot able to assess the hiking trails. no actual mccullly made him or herself known to us - one of our favorite hipcamp features is chatting with the host.
luckily we ran into a couple who recently bought one of the stilt houses that line the river side of the road in nearby kampsville. the husband was from the area, so we had a nice chat. pro tip: if you arte headed west, get everything you need at an exit BEFORE 100S. several bars on the road down, but no real grocery or place to get stuff. also, the area is pretty solid red ideologically. not a big deal for camping, but keep it in mind.
Overall, a nice little spot, especially if you have time to spend a few days.
Marick Acres
in Marick Acres, Indianavery nice site, even nicer hosts. very sad not to have a few days to spend here! copious amounts of firewood, facilities clean and close (but not too close!).
Whispering Pines Tent Site #2
in Oak Mountain Hideaway, PennsylvaniaLittle things matter
the little things matter. and every little thing about this campsite was perfect. for example, the totes adorbs mini cabin we were able to use when we arrived late instead of putting up a tent in the rain. or the little tarp Ed used to cover the firewood so even a city boy like me could start a fire to make breakfast. not little at all: the effort the hosts have obviously put in to make a wonderful experience for visitors. can't wait to come back and stay longer!
