Past trip
in Secluded Carrizo Plains Campsite, CaliforniaQuiet and isolated but nearby
This site is very near Carrizo Plains National Monument, yet is very isolated and quiet. We've stayed here multiple times when we visit Carrizo.
Past trip
in C2T Ranch on the Saline River, KansasOn our trip across the US we needed a place to stop in Kansas. It was 118f in Needles, CA and 103 in Arkansas. I needed electricity for the AC. C2T sounded great with wide spacing between sites for privacy. I hoped to hike just a little if temperature allowed. C2T was even better than the descriptionâwell worth the few miles off I70 to get there! We loved the tree chair swing, the donkeys and horses and of course the river and bluffs. I would love to return if passing through Kansas again.
Past trip
in The Farm Girl and Friends, IllinoisThis camp was a bit further than I wanted to travel on that day, but we love animals and it sounded like much more of an experience than other choices in the region. We pulled in after dark but Rhinda helped me position my Class B RV into a great spot under large trees far enough from her house for privacy yet close enough to be serenaded by a host of animal sounds. We had a great night's sleep and a lazy morning start. Rhinda gave us a ~30 minute tour of her farm with a dizzying variety of birds, geese, goats, peacocks, chickens, cats, rabbits, miniature horses, pigs, Great Pyrenees (three!) and more. Alas, no alpaca, but we enjoyed it regardless.
Past trip
in MSB Legacy Retreat, ColoradoGreat place to stay near mesa verde
This was such a great choice for us especially after the previous night at a much-more-expensive KOA in Las Vegas. We enjoyed the privacy, the quiet and the views! The site on the hill (they gave us both #2and #3) has lots of spaceâgravel and mulchâwater and electric. Also a picnic table and fire ring (ask about fire limits though). We were happy we took the long way by avoiding I40 and instead meandering up here.

(Dispersed site)
This Hipcamp site met our needs well. We arrived just after sunset due to heavy traffic through LA, but the directions were clear and made it easy to locate. We easily found a spot for our small Sprinter RV.
Past trip
in River View, OregonThis was a quick traveling stop and it worked great for our needs. We arrived at dusk and were on the road by 9am after sleeping well. You can hear 101 nearby, but it was not a bother to us. If we had stayed longer, the small house would have been a nice touch. It was quite comfortable and provided the view of the river while blocking the chill and highway noise.
Thomas hasn't gone on any trips yet.

Quiet Private Forest Edge
in Wendy & John Farm, CaliforniaRelaxing where land meets sea
We really enjoyed the unusual setting for Wendy & John's farm. They are out in the delta where the Eel River meets the Pacific--close enough to the coast to hear the surf. Their five sites are widely separated in a 3-acre meadow, providing plenty of privacy even for those of us who really don't want neighbors. We enjoyed the Quiet Private Forest Edge at the southern edge of the meadow. The adjacent hillside was covered in wildflowers including beautiful Purple Foxglove (digitalis). We also enjoyed walking the country road with views of the ocean a mile away, barns, wildflowers and their neighbor's most-interesting cows. Because of my wife's asthma, try to avoid being near campers who do. However, the ocean breeze and well-spaced campsites made campfire smoke a non-issue. In fact, Wendy & John made it so easy to have a campfire (wood, fire starter, lighter, fire pit with a screen) that even we made a fire!

#1: Picnic Table - Fire Pit
in Terra Vivus, CaliforniaSolitude, joshua trees, goldfields
This was not our first time at Terra Vivus--we returned for the quiet joy of camping in this isolated stretch of Joshua trees and goldfields. It is only ~1.5miles from a busy highway and just a few more from Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, but you would never know it from the silence and broad views.
Lee Road Campsite
in Buford Canyon, WyomingGreat views, great facilities!
We stayed at the RV site which was equipped surprisingly well with a solar-power lighted shelter, lots of seating, two picnic tables, a fire pit and a barbecue. Chas offered to show us the bathroom, but we had our own and declined. We also loved the views. The I-80 traffic noise was a little bothersome, but not too much. The views and facilities made up for it.

#1: Picnic Table - Fire Pit
in Terra Vivus, CaliforniaJoshua trees, solitude and poppies
We really enjoyed the solitude and beauty of this spot only 1.3miles from busy Rte 138 (Avenue D). There are no poppies here, but lots of Joshua trees, gold fields and fiddlenecks. The poppies are visible in the distance at the Poppy Reserve only about 4 miles away.

in Secluded Carrizo Plains Campsite, CaliforniaGreat directions, great location for Carrizo Plains. We like the isolated location with broad views of Carrizo. Nice easy in and out for our class B RV
Site 3 - Rockin' N Ranch Buena Vista Valley
in Rockin' N Ranch Buena Vista Valley, NevadaWell worth the drive off i-80!
We had been booked into an RV park in Winnemucca because of the heat, but after enduring a crowded RV park in Indiana we decided we did not need the A/C that badly. We timed our arrival for just before sunset when the hot day was abating. We had a cool night open to the world. We especially enjoyed the solitude and the brilliant stars. There are 3 sites, but spaced well apart and ~0.3miles from the ranch buildings. The ground is dirt, so it could be dusty or muddy. Site 2 has the best gravel base, so I would recommend that one if there is a chance of rain. We had Site 3, but no company which was great for us.
