Bring your own water, purify from spigot, purify from hose, purify from tap. For access to FREE- Non Potable water for RV or Public Water go to Community Service Center at 13080 Soda Lake Rd, Santa Margarita, CA 93453 or call (805) 475-2211. Drive behind the offices and there will a sign that says potable water for fillable water access for RV or Campers for FREE anytime or day or night. Please note that this water site is about 10 miles from the camping site.

Pack it out
VERY IMPORTANT. Please take all your trash. We had a camper that left trash bags there for pick up. The wild life got into it and made a mess not to mention its not safe for the local animals. PLEASE TAKE ALL YOUR TRASH. We do not pick up trash bags due to us being 2 hours away and come to the site two days out of the week. Thanks again. We want to protect local wild life and do not want to shut down the site due to hurting local wild life and eco environment. Thanks.

The Carrizo Plane is exquisite. The site provides a beautiful and expensive view. Only two items on the site make it not entirely boondocking: a weathered and droppings-covered picnic table and a low fire ring, loosely assembled from sundry dry stacked stones and bricks. We found neither to be serviceable (on the day we were there it was too windy to dare and light a fire even in a proper fire ring, and I wouldn't sit at or eat off the table). Access to the site is via dirt roads. The main one is well graded and wide. The first turnoff from that road is a single lane track with vegetation down the center, and the final one leading to the site is basically a tire-worn trail through vegetation. I am not complaining about any of this, just describing what we experienced. We were glad for the experience staying there and exploring the Plane.

It’s a little janky getting out there, and a lot of tweaker vibes. Broken down cars and trailers all around. The road is grass and grown over, middle of nowhere. We still had a good time, beautiful sunset, stars were lovely but would not have stayed out there solo.

The directions to access the very remote property were spot on and very helpful. Given the height of the weeds this year, we would have been much more comfortable (fire danger, snakes, foxtails) if more than 20-30 feet of the weeds were cleared, not just the small area around the picnic table and the fire pit. Thanks for sharing the land!

Great private spot with no neighbors. Sweeping views. Bare bones just a fire pit and table , perfect for us and just as expected. Pretty easy to find using Google Maps. Missed the flowers by a couple weeks thus the foxtails were out and challenging with dogs. Other than the foxtails, it was a great spot. We’d come again earlier next spring during the green season.

If you're into the whole children of the corn vibe then you're going to love it. My wife and I drove around the apocalyptic neighborhood looking for 2 hours trying to find our spot. We never did. We drove 3 hours just to turn around and stay at a motel.

Great spot, centrally located for flower viewing in multiple directions. Fit my 28ft 5th wheel easily. Barely had to level. Just follow the host's written directions and not google maps and you will be fine. Thanks!

Great spot! Unfortunately it wasn't mowed as suggested but we mowed it. Vista was 360 and stars were amazing. The directions indicate signage, but there wasn't any and it was a bit hard to find. But overall, it was secluded and peaceful and an amazing place!

Although the location is nice, the road into and the site itself was completely over grown with weeds. You needed a high clearance vehicle and a weed wacker to clear the area around a broken down picnic table. I would not send a friend to this site.

The site was very quiet and convenient for the Carrizo Plain. When we stayed in early February it was somewhat overgrown and we were not able to drive our 2WD low clearance van onto the camping area due to a low berm on the side of the dirt road leading to the site. We resolved this by parking on the road itself and reversing out. A high clearance truck or SUV would not have this issue.

Great spot! We were nervous about not being able to find a spot on Memorial Day weekend so it was nice to reserve something for peace of mind. We were nervous about having a campfire cause it was windy and dry but I'm sure times earlier in the year would be good

We never made it to the site. Google Maps did not match the Host's directions. She said there was no signage of roads and its easy to get lost. We tried her by phone but it was out of service. We sent several emails but never received a response. This hipcamp seems out of service! Will inquire about a refund.

Overall, if you are looking for a place to stay overnight… it will do. It was our first time coming to Carrizo Plains and we were unsure of the camping situation, so having a spot gave us peace of mind. That said, we explored CP first and it was amazing with lots of BLM and free camping options. We drove to our Heritage reserved spot, and the landscape significantly changed. It felt more desolate. The 7 mile road to get to the location was bumpy and unpleasant. So, we rested for a couple hours inside our van, then left and found a lovely spot to camp inside CP. Pro: secured camp spot, picnic table, fire pit Con: not the best location, overgrown vegetation, not picturesque

My plans changed and I didn’t end up spending the night in the site. But I saw the sign for it on 7 Mile Rd, and the owner was very easy to communicate with as I was considering booking. Seems like a great spot.

I had a great time at the campsite. It was easy to find, right off the scenic drive along Elkhorn Road, and Google Maps with GPS coordinates made navigation simple. I even had good cell service with T-Mobile. The campsite was spacious and peaceful, featuring a simple bench and a camp fire pit. Although I saw a camper and a couple of houses, it seemed deserted. The grass was a bit overgrown, but that didn't bother me much. Just a tip: bring your own firewood since there are no trees around for gathering branches. This was my first time using Hipcamp, and it was a positive experience.

This was a perfect place to spend the night as we were passing through on our way up to NorCal. It’s a field in the middle of nowhere. There’s just a picnic table and a fire ring (but I don’t think fires were allowed when we stayed). Make sure to have shelter, water and toilet. Also, follow instructions closely. We got there after dark and took a little focus to find the site. I’d recommend it for a night or two.

This is a nice, remote spot. Very basic - just a dirt road that ends at a picnic bench, fire pit, and a small, mowed area. There was one camper in sight, but, I never saw anybody. The views are pretty, and the access to Carrizo was easy. The instructions to get there were easy to follow. For me, it was a place to sleep between Carrizo adventures. I wouldn't necessarily think to stay here with a group for the camping itself, but that might just be me.

I expected remote, but this site was overgrown to the point where my dogs could not even run through the meadows. I expected a larger mowed area. As is was, I couldn't arrange my 24 foot RV without hanging my exhaust into the meadows. And the fire pit was overgrown as well. I actually didn't stay at the site and moved on.

Phenomenal location close to Carrizo Plain National monument attractions. Beautiful spot smack dab in the middle of the super bloom (if you come in spring on a good year) with views of both mountain ranges. May be impassable in the wet season. Directions were fool-proof for finding the location. Highly recommend!

I loved my first experience with HipCamp. We had the entire area - 2 1/2 acres! - to ourselves! However, better than that, there was no one around as far as the eye could see - which was amazing. Great views. Was worried about using the coordinates to find the site but they worked and HipCamp had a couple of signs placed so we knew we'd gotten to the right place. We enjoyed the fire pit and were pleased and surprised that a picnic table was provided as well. We are looking for our next HipCamp adventure!

What a beautiful camping spot to experience Carrizo Plain and the super bloom. We have an awesome time in this quiet and peaceful plot with incredible views of Carrizo. This spot is going on our favorites and we will for sure come again.

Beautiful, open, isolated spot. We loved being able to let our dog off leash. And happy my husband and I both had internet out there. It was super cold and windy during our stay but will definitely be back when it gets warmer!

Very remote property that is great when you just need to get away. Lovely roads to bike ride on and so nice to be able to have the dogs off leash. Beautiful sunsets and wonderful for stargazing. Some cool scarab beetles and unique bird species. Be ready for wind and don’t mess with the tumbleweeds! 😘 We will definitely be back!
