We had such a good time and can't wait to visit again. It's absolutely worth it to rent both lakeside camp sites and you have your own, private spot with plenty of room right on the lake, with lots of space for cars and tents. We had a mix of seasoned and newbie campers, plus a baby and expecting mother, so we wanted to have bathroom, shower facilities, and water nearby. It's really nice that you can use the main lodge facilities here, which are a definite step up from the port-a-potties at most other camps that have a bathroom. Amy and her family are really welcoming and let you wander around, check out the stables, meet the horses, watch the lessons, etc. The horses are absolutely amazing and beautiful -- seeing them go in and out each morning and afternoon was a highlight. There are also some super friendly dogs that would keep up company every so often. The spot has everything you would need -- a nice big fire ring, two wooden picnic tables, plenty of wood you can order, etc. The dock had floated away and the fish were spawning when we were there, but we'd love to come back and do some fishing and kayaking in the future. It's a super easy drive from Chicago, the town of Lawrence has a gas station and Dollar General if you forgot anything, and there are plenty of forests for hiking nearby (plus some breweries). Overall we had a really fantastic time -- thanks for having us.

Past trip
in The Willow Farm, WisconsinPerfect getaway for camping
A fantastic spot for camping, particularly for a weekend trip from Chicago. There are only two spots here, and they are plenty far from each other so it feels like you have the place to yourself (and nobody was at the other one while I was there). I came in and the site was freshly mowed, with plenty of room to park and set up camp. There are a few extra amenities that you don't find at other sites, like a higher-end dining table and chairs, a hammock, and a camp rug, which was really nice. The port-a-potty is really clean, there is wood to purchase on-site (purchase it there -- it's cheaper than buying it in advance), and water is available. I had a really great, relaxing solo camping weekend -- made a few good dinners on the fire, read a book, watched sunsets and a lightning storm, had some whiskey around the campfire. New Glarus Brewery is weirdly closed on the weekends, but I found some in the local stores along with plenty of cheese. Next time I'll check out Minhas Brewery, which Nicole recommended. Nicole is super responsive and friendly (and so is her dog Baloo who came to wish me a good morning each day) and is clearly doing some awesome work on the property, including regular improvements to each site (she mentioned wanting to add a sunshade in the future, but in the meantime you might want to bring a car awning or shade tent). Would definitely come back and absolutely recommend.

Site 3 - Tent Camp on Wisconsin Flower Farm
in Wisconsin Flower Farm, WisconsinA great getaway from chicago
We had such a great time! This is the perfect getaway from Chicago for a weekend camping trip. When I arrived Cheryl was there to greet me and show me the site. The apple tree at the orchard site we had booked was dropping apples which was attracting wasps, so she let us switch to a different site which worked out much better -- being on top of the hill we got a nice breeze that kept everything cool and even kept a lot of the bugs away. You can drive right up to your site and there is a fire pit, picnic table, and plenty of room -- we had three people and two tents and still had plenty of space. The sites are also nice and private but it is nice to run into your neighbors as you head back and forth to the port-a-potties and sink. The wood bundles are worth it -- big bundles of nice, dry wood so you can start a fire and start cooking immediately. The bread was delicious and the flower arrangement was beautiful. It was nice to be able to wander around the farm and see the flowers. The area is great -- we got so much cheese, stopped and got baked goods and beers in Plymouth, went to a nice beach on Lake Michigan, and had some coffee at 3 Sweets Bakery. All in all it was an excellent trip -- we really lucked out with the weather. Definitely hope to be back.
Past trip
in Heritage Farm Stay Adventure, IndianaThereâs a reason this destination keeps winning âBest ofâ awards. We stayed here for three nights over the 4th of July and had such a relaxing trip. The cabin itself is like âstepping back in timeâ as everyone says (although the AC on the second floor is appreciated!). Itâs very comfy and cozy and we enjoyed reading around the old fireplace at night. The beds are also very comfortable (they are old wooden beds, so a tiny bit short for us tall folks, but I just slept diagonally). The outdoor space is where this cabin shines, however. We made full use of the outdoor fridge, huge grill, outdoor sink, and the wood-fired pizza oven. We cooked so many great meals over the weekend (we lucked out that Tim was already making pizzas on Saturday so we could throw our own in the oven after). If you can, I suggest bringing a large griddle so you can make pancakes, eggs (farm fresh!), etc. (Pro tip: if you put the garbage can in the attached bathroom at night the raccoons wonât get to it). During the day we read in the hammock, wandered around the farm (itâs nice that they let you experience the farm on your own and give you a lot of safety guidance to do so), met the alpacas, hung out with the kittens, walked the path through the forest and creek, and took a day trip to France Park and Monticello. Thereâs also a really great Kroger in Kokomo that has everything you need. At night we hung out around the fire pit with a bourbon and watched the shooting stars. On the third of July we could see the fireworks all around the farm, particularly from the second floor balcony. Thereâs also an alpaca feeding experience that was my brother-in-lawâs favorite part of the trip. All in all this is a truly amazing getaway only a short drive from Chicago. It really felt like we were on vacation, even if only for a short time.
