Glamping Wall-Tent (#2)
in Amnicon Adventures & Retreats, WisconsinOverall, this place is truly magical, and I would camp here again, but in my own tent. We arrived at night, and mistakingly used the gps coordinates in google maps which took us to an incorrect location. (Use Camp Amnicon as your destination in google maps!) I love that you have to hike to the sites, as it feels like you're far away from civilization. As others have mentioned, the hike is about 15 minutes. They provide carts for the hike in, which is awesome. The path was muddy, but that's to be expected from the listing details and past reviews. Fresh water and a sink are provided under the pavilion near the tents, which is another bonus. There aren't numbered signs on the tents (that I could see), so it was a little difficult finding ours in the dark, but we made our best guess and there were no problems. The beach is seconds away down a short, yet steep path. Sunset was absolutely beautiful, as was an evening campfire on the beach. Nighttime sounds of waves, loons, and passing ships were incredible! The only thing that troubled me was our tent had many holes, and the walls were not tightly secured to the platform. This resulted in bugs in our tent, and our dog slipped under the tent walls in the middle of the night and got skunked. Not fun, but just an unfortunate accident. The tents are close enough that you can hear other campers, so it is more of a communal vibe. I would definitely stay here again, in my own secure, more private tent site!

in sol duc rainforest retreat, WashingtonFerns and fairy lights
This was a peaceful, private place to rest in between adventures. Super close to Lake Crescent, Sol Duc hot springs and other hikes! Very much appreciated the carved wooden art dispersed throughout the property as well as the fairy lights everywhere. The communal areas such as kitchen with gas stove and dishes, bathroom, shower, and game area made this spot extra special.
Garden Cabin at Wildland Gardens
in Wildland Gardens, UtahSleeper Hollow Cabin Camping
in Sleeper Hollow Cabin, ArizonaLisa's was so great with communicating directions to the cabin. Once you get to the cabin, there are plenty of helpful instructions on how to use the lights and composting toilet. The decor was super cute and cozy. There was also a fresh water tank, battery operated lights, all the cooking utensils you could need, a nice sink, very clean and modern outhouse, a wood stove, and plenty of blankets to keep warm! I have Verizon and maintained around two bars of service. I felt very safe and comfortable here and would definitely recommend staying more than one night!
Verde Goats, Cheese and.Arts - Tent
in Richard Wizardy's Cynosure Project, ArizonaRichard is one of the most friendly hosts I've met - welcoming, helpful, and eager to share his stories. Laid out through the property are crazy cool sculptures that he made and takes to Burning Man. He has lots of goats from which he makes great cheese! We set up our tent next to concrete pad under a few mesquite trees.
At the time of our stay, there was one full time resident living on the property who chatted with us a bit over the campfire. Very friendly and welcoming, and so was her sweet dog!
The other dogs, Ayodin and Barka, are guard dogs for the property. They have a mean bark but are the absolute sweetest once you get to know them. Their presence made me feel very safe during my stay.
If you're looking for a quiet, secluded experience in nature, this is not for you. If you like to meet new, friendly folks, admire cool art, and don't mind a more communal vibe, this is such a fun place to stay! We got to feed goats, pet a turkey, hang with cool dogs, meet friendly folks, cook over a campfire, take home obsidian souvenir, try homemade goat cheese, and see a little slice of Arizona that we would have probably never experienced.
Deer Creek House
in Deer Creek House, OregonRahmana is a super sweet host with an awesome piece of property! She took me to a secret local swimming hole, let me pick figs from the tree, and even cooked me a delicious organic breakfast! Even though this spot is her backyard, I saw more wildlife than I could have imagined! Deer roam freely, birds of all kinds, and of course her free range chickens and kitties roam the property. I set up my tent under the shade of a large walnut tree, but there are many spots to choose from. When she is home, the bathroom is free to use, and if not, there is an outhouse in the yard. I enjoyed walking around the property, picking berries, and laying in my tent listening to the wildlife. Because of all the animals, it was a lot for my dog to handle. If you're traveling with a dog that likes to chase chickens or cats, this may not be the best place for you. That being said, Rahmana is an animal lover and worked with me to let my dog roam once the chickens went to bed, which was very thoughtful.
Site 2 - Vineyard on S. Umpqua River
in Vineyard on S. Umpqua, OregonThis was a fun and unique camping experience! Upon arrival, I called Bryan and he came out to meet me right away. He showed me a couple of different areas available for camping - one down in a shaded area, closer to the river, and others along the road in the vineyard. There is a great spot for swimming in the S. Umpqua River, and he even gave me a wine tasting! There was also a little building that serves as a communal area with tables, chairs, and electrical outlets (which was so nice to charge my phone!). This was a great space to escape the hot sun and watch the wildlife enjoy the river.
Site 1 - Prairieâs Edge
in Prairie's Edge, CaliforniaLinda and Shane are awesome hosts! The windy, steep drive up to their property is an adventure in itself! It starts in fern covered redwood forest and as you climb up, turns into prairie with an amazing view of surrounding mountains and the ocean! The campsite area dips back down into shaded forest where the temperature stays nice and cool. I camped at site #1 adjacent to the pond. The site is equipped with a nice picnic table, established fire pit, and communal compost toilet just a few steps away. Make sure to hike or drive up to the top of the property for sunset...it's unreal! I felt very much in the wild here, with sites and sounds of all kinds of birds surrounding me! The beach is only 20 mins away, and the Redwood parks are maybe 30min-1 hour. This spot is very peaceful and I would definitely recommend staying a few nights!
Feisty Dog Orchard
in Feisty Dog Orchard, CaliforniaBowie and friends were so welcoming! I loved setting up my tent under the shade of an apple tree. I camped on a Friday, which happens to be the evening they have a weekly potluck! It was fun visiting with locals, sharing delicious food, and listening to them play music around the campfire. Take your time driving the Avenue of the Giants on the way. There is a super short walk to the river to cool down on those hot afternoons. I would highly recommend camping here and only wish I had more time to spend!
Riverside
in North Fork Retreat, OregonBill and Pam were the most welcoming hosts! I love how much thought they put into the comfort of their campers. There is a nice composting toilet, a grill/fire pit, and water at each site. Just a short walk down the road leads to a sweet swimming hole in the creek. I would definitely recommend camping here!
