in Ethel's Hideout, ArizonaNot private, but adequate
Annie B.has mixed feelings towards this listing.
Ethel's Hideout is not exactly that, though the name is cute and Butch Cassidy has a score of hideouts in this splendid state. The plus factors for this Hipcamp are potable water, electric hook-up, a port-o-potty, and accessibility to Kanab. This was especially good for being here in the winter. It is a very exposed campground and there is industry happening around it, as well as the highway just over the hill - not bad in terms of hearing traffic, but as I said - not exactly a hideout. We were looking forward to walking with our dog to the mesa, but because the ground was wet, it was too muddy to walk there. Our hostess met us soon after we pulled in and welcomed and oriented us, which is always nice. A little pricey at $51.00/night.
Past trip
The Nest (Glamping Bell Tent)
in Nest Acres, ColoradoSweet but unfortunate location
The 2 women who have created The Nest have shown great care in the bell tent accommodations, with a very comfortable bed, and clean interior, but unfortunately the tents are very permeable to sound and the property is on a major highway that semi-trucks travel on, and the deafening noise of them passing throughout the night made for an unrestful sleep. It would also be nice if a washing station was set up outside of the porta-potty.

River Cabin Getaway
in River Getaway, MichiganSerenity on the menominee
What a treat to stay at River's Getaway on the Menominee River, a big lazy river with geese floating serenely by and eagles flying overhead. Kayla has a nice fire pit on the banks of the river and sitting around the fire with moonlight glinting off the water was sublime.

Kim was so warmly welcoming to us we felt right at home. The land is green and sweet and the bathroom facilities a nice bonus, with a toilet and hot shower available. We had plenty of room to park our truck and 12' trailer on the grass, lots of room to turn around in.
Past trip
in Draco Hill Nature Farm, IowaA sweet place on the river - quiet with coyotes chattering in the evening. We have a 12' trailer we pull, and it was just able to turn around in Site#1. I wouldn't recommend any bigger. Communications with Suzan were prompt and clear.

This is an amazing swath of wild land sandwiched between 2 immense corn fields, with ancient elm(?) trees lining a spring fed watercourse through hilly land, forested at the edges and a pond in the middle. Mid October, and we had a sweet night. The bathroom is at the owner's house, which is far enough down the road that we didn't feel inclined to drive back to use it, so be prepared to dig cat holes. Jennifer, our hostess, was prompt with responses and we felt well tended as we approached the Lazy AA. Our GPS brought us right to it.
Past trip
in Spring Canyon Ranch, ColoradoWe had a wonderful walk down the corridor of ancient cottonwoods and willows when we arrived at our camping area, even with incredibly gusty winds - a bonafide grasslands experience. The ranch is in the middle of a wind farm, with giant turbines surrounding you. The shower/bathroom building is kept beautifully warm and taking a shower in the morning was fantastic after being on the road a few days.
We had a difficult time finding the ranch, as the directions weren't clear. Raymer actually doesn't exist - but New Raymer does, and this is what we needed to put into our GPS. And because we came from the south, we didn't know we needed to get onto 71N to find CR132. We were told that they had just begun Hipcamp 2 months ago, and were fine tuning their communications, so it will probably get clearer.

Mountain View Camping
in Mountain View Camping, ColoradoAnnie B.doesn't recommend this listing.
(Dispersed site)
This Hipcamp site is way overpriced at $70.00/nite. I reserved it one day before because a snowstorm was coming in and we were in a bind for having a place to stay. While the communication with Jenna was very good, when we arrived her mother Debbie was waiting to greet us and we were taken over an extremely muddy road that was touch-and-go for our 4x4 pulling a 12' trailer. She brought us to a place under trees by a creek, which felt nice, but there were big badger holes and fresh cow pies and mud because of the storm. The website said there would be a toilet, but there was no mention of this. We were worried about getting out the next morning, but Debbie pointed out a different route for us to take, and we drove out without a problem. I wouldn't suggest bringing any kind of an RV in if there is a storm. We had an anxious night and felt taken advantage of with the cost.
Past trip
in Jug Handle Creek Farm, CaliforniaI have stayed at Jug Handle several times now. 4x camping, and once in one of the cabins. The camping area is very quiet, with wonderful trails that wind back into the big trees, down to a sweet cove, and the more extensive Staircase trail. I love the old Victorian farmhouse with it's great kitchen and dining table that can seat a big group of people. I've always been here in Jan/Feb, and it can be a bit cold in the house, but the warm atmosphere can make up for that.
Annie hasn't gone on any trips yet.
Hipcamp Hosts can leave an optional review of their Hipcampers after the trip is completed. This is where those reviews from Hipcamp Hosts will appear.
