I had a great time and was the only guest for the two days I was there so Wilson suggested I stay at the “Main” campsite. It had an awning, tables, and everything needed for cooking and entertaining. Wilson is a solid guy, we had a great chat and enjoyed a beer. I highly recommend this spot. I’m an avid HipCamper and this one has became my favorite. Can’t wait to share it with my misses and friends. P.S. the site had some great trails for exploring.

Had my son's boy scout patrol campout there this past weekend and had an amazing time. Wilson could not have been more hospitable and went above and beyond to make it a campout everyone would remember. He even guided us on a ~3 mile hike of the ranch and brought a friend with him to help the boys learn some new knots. The ranch is absolutely gorgeous and our campsite was perfect, nestled among a canopy of trees by a dry creekbed. Could not recommend this place any more, we will definitely be back.

We had such a wonderful stay at Frio on the River! We ended up having the whole place to ourselves, which made it peaceful and relaxing. The property is well cared for, easy to access, and close to everything we needed. Garner State Park was just a short drive away, and there were gas stations and small shops nearby. Kelly was absolutely incredible! She was proactive with communication and sent helpful pictures since we were arriving late after dark. She stopped by in the morning to make sure we had everything we needed, and she was such a lovely person to talk to. She made us feel welcome right away. On our way out, we discovered we had a flat tire and she even offered to help and gave us great advice about where to go. Her kindness really stood out and made the stay even better! Even with a burn ban in effect, we were still able to cook using the small barbecue grill on site. The amenities were great — clean restroom facilities, hot showers, and thoughtful touches around the property. We loved spending time on the porch swing under the big tree, playing horseshoes and tetherball, and visiting the chickens. If you’re more of a cabin person, there are plenty on the property for big groups! There is some traffic noise from the nearby road, so sound-sensitive guests may want to know that, but it didn’t bother us at all. We would definitely stay here again the next time we’re in the area. Such a warm, welcoming, peaceful place!

This place is great. Loved that it is so remote. Our site was nice. The flowing stream is a really nice feature as well. Walking distance to a couple of great fishing spots. Caught my best bass on the fly to date, probably 4 lbs. There was not much natural shade, so glad we had our own canopy so we could enjoy the great view.

We welcome you to come enjoy the seclusion and dark sky on a working cattle/exotic hunting ranch in the Texas Hill Country.  My great great grandfather established this ranch in the late 1870's and our family still lives here today.  We are located in Real county just north of Leakey, Texas on US Highway 83.  Our campsites are on the head waters of the West prong of the Frio River.  Our Grapevine Springs have continuous flow the year round.  You will enjoy the gurgling creek, hiking, swimming, solitude and our sunrises and sunsets, and big and bright stars in the night sky.  We have tall hills and hardwood trees, Spanish oaks, Escarpment Cherry, Black walnut, live oaks and other oaks.  We have wild animals; white tail deer, turkey, hogs and exotics and seasonally songbirds and butterflies on the ranch.  We are close to Lost Maples State Nature Area and Garner State Park.**Make sure your vehicle has plenty of clearance. Also, the river is yours to roam, but venturing very far off the river might be trespassing, unless of course, you are on the Labyrinth. You do not have access to the cottage yard area. The best camping in Kickapoo Cavern State Park, TX guide

Overview

About

This unique state park includes 20 known caves and around 18 miles of wilderness trails.

Two caves are large enough to be significant to visitors. Stuart Bat Cave is aptly named for its nightly bat flight. Hang around until sunset. That's when hundreds of bats exit the cave and fly into the darkness looking for food.

These harmless creatures are Mexican free-tailed bats. They live in the cave from mid-March until October before migrating south for the winter.

The other cave is Kickapoo Cavern. It travels 1,400 feet underground, and the cave has some awesome rock formations. Tours happen every Saturday at 1 pm, so long as at least five people reserve their spot. A tour takes from two to three hours. That leaves plenty of time to get to Stuart Bat Cave by sunset.

This smallish park has five campsites with full hook-ups. Ten campsites have electricity and water. A group campsite accommodates up to 30 people.
